WHEREAS Geert Wilders has exercised his fundamental human right of freedom of expression and spoken out, with facts and evidence, of the threat posed by radical Islam;

WHEREAS certain elements within Islamic communities have threatened a boycott of Dutch goods if Geert Wilders is not punished by the Dutch government for exercising his freedom of expression; and

WHEREAS certain elements in Dutch industry and the Dutch government are suggesting that Geert Wilders be prosecuted civilly or criminally, in order to prevent such a boycott;

IT IS RESOLVED that, in the event that the Dutch government attempts, in any way, to punish or prosecute Geert Wilders, civilly or criminally, for exercising his freedom of expression, the undersigned will initiate a boycott of any and all Dutch goods.

The fifth seminar in the Unlearning Intolerance seminar series of the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI), entitled “Cartooning for Peace: The Responsibility of Political Cartoonists?“, will explore the rights, roles and responsibilities of political cartoonists in promoting peace issues.

The anger and divisiveness engendered by the publication of the caricature of Prophet Mohammed and the recent controversial exhibit on the Holocaust suggest both a sense of the power and of the necessity of responsibility in the art of cartooning. The choice of this particular topic at the present time will, we hope, offer another opportunity for the United Nations to be a forum where difficult, but necessary, questions are raised and addressed, not only to suggest answers but to spur non-confrontational thought, debate, and enquiry.

Check out the “invited participants.” Two in particular jumped out at me: Jeff Danziger and Mike Luckovich.

Conveniently friendly crowd, wouldn’t you say? Especially since they actually have the chutzpah to refer to one of the participants as being from “Palestine.” (That loud noise you just heard? That was my head exploding.)

Oh, and the little ~~‘toon~~ commemorative plate! they commissioned for this boondoggle of hateful madmen?

So, ya think they’ll do much talking about the insane, violent overreaction to the Mohammed cartoons? Heh. Not bloody likely. I think it’s more likely they’ll sit around and draw hateful cartoons of John Bolton than criticize rioting Islamotards. I’d watch the webcast, but I don’t need the aggravation. (Besides, I’m lazy, and I’m sure someone else will probably do it, anyway.)

I think it’s time to revive an oldie-but-goodie in honor of “Cartooning for Peace” and the Religion of Peace’s response to a bunch of cartoons.
