That one’s from the DNC, not MoveOn.org, but what’s the difference? Not to worry, though, moveon.org has released their own “100 years” strawman ad called “Candles.” Really, if this “100 years” strawman is the best they’ve got (and it appears to be their election strategy, along with “McSame” - LOL), I’m thinking we’ve got smooth sailing on the horizon. Obviously the libs really do believe voters are too stupid to figure out that it’s dishonest nonsense.
But for the libtards’ benefit (since they apparently are that stupid), a little fact checking is in order. Not that MoveOn or the DNC care about those pesky things called “facts.”
Please, Democrats, do stick with that strawman campaign!

If anyone’s deserving of a promotion, it’s General David Petraeus.
Army Gen. David Petraeus has been asked to take over the U.S. military’s Central Command, which oversees combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the Associated Press.
…
Army Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno is expected to take command of coalition forces in Iraq, according to CNN and AP.
CNN has streaming live coverage (so does Fox News) of the press conference, and of course it’s on teevee right now.
More at Hot Air for the moment. Abu Muqawama says the real story, buried by CNN, is that LTG Odierno is headed back to Iraq to replace Petraeus. I’ll be waiting for insider commentary in the comments there, and at the Small Wars Journal and Blackfive.
I’m sick of ugly libtard elitists. Let’s talk about a real American hero instead.
Meet Gunnery Sergeant Spanky Gibson.
Spanky was deployed to Iraq in January 2006 as a Joint Terminal Aircraft Controller. From a forward position, he coordinated, integrated and directed the actions of combat aircraft engaged in Close Air Support (CAS) and other offensive air operations. On 16 May 2006, Spanky was injured while conducting a foot patrol in Ramadi. He was attached to the 1st Iraqi Army Brigade, 1st BN, when he was shot by a sniper in the left knee cap. His wounds resulted in the loss of his left leg, just above the knee.
Now this is a hell of a story.
Gunny Gibson lost his entire leg after an Iraqi sniper fired a round through his knee in Ramadi in 2006 - May 16, 2006 - just 19 months ago. He is the first full leg amputee to be returned to the fight - redeployed as an active marine. This Gunny had been in the marines for 18 years - that is who he is. He said all he wanted to do was get back into the fight. He said returning to Iraq was his first step back to feeling like he was a marine again. He runs half marathons with his prosthetic and it was when he swam in a race from Alcatraz and ended up at the feet of General Mattis out in California. As he emerged from the water General Mattis asked him what he could do for him - he said, “Sir, send me back to Iraq.” It was the only way he said that he would feel whole again. His wife and 4 year old daughter are in Oklahoma. This marine is now supporting his unit from the back - coordinating fire in the Combat Operations Center in Camp Fallujah.
In that piece, they say you can email the Gunny:
I asked him if he would engage some of our viewers with e-mails - take questions and he said yes - so if anyone wants to write to him and give him a bit of support and ask him what it is like to be back - here is his e-mail: gibsonwespanky a+ yahoo d0+ com or if that doesn’t work try gibsonwlspanky a+ yahoo d0+ com.
Another Gunny over at Townhall wrote about him in February, and Gibson responded in the comments:
February 21st, 2008 at 5:16 am:
To everyone, I will like to say “Thank You” to all of you who have given opinion or gratitude for what we all do, in service to our country. I usually stay pretty low-key when it comes to a camera or a reporter. It always seems to find me but, as an above the knee amputee, I think it is important to not only show my fellow Marines but all citizens that our abilities still exist. We new fighters strive to prove to all that fought before us that we do not wish to tarnish their hard work. Our service in Iraq or Afghanistan is to assist them in some of the same ways we needed assistance 232 years ago. War sucks, getting injured or dying sucks, but all of us serving raised our right hand and swore to do what is a responsibility. I take not one day back in my service. I would much rather be the Marine injured than one of my young Marines who have a long life to live. Thank you all again. I will gladly answer all of your emails as soon as I get the free time to do so. This was a quicker method to reach the masses. If you want to know the true heroes, its the family members that put up with us doing this job. Or holding our hand while we learn to walk again. To let go of that hand, as hard as it might be, to let us return to the same place that changed our life. My wife Chaney is the hero, I just support.
Semper Fi, GySgt Spanky Gibson
Damn. Thank you, Gunny and Chaney Gibson. Y’all are amazing. OORAH!
(How is it that I just now found this story by surfing around LiveLeak?)
ZOMG, BUSH AUTHORIZED TORTURE!!11!
FAIL.
What’s important now we have at least ONE signed memo which establishes George W. Bush as the executive authority making final decisions in the NSC process which established a United States run torture regime; the document shown at the bottom of this post.
Wow, the President is the authority who makes final decisions in the NSC? Stunning news!!! Not.
Here’s the shocking document (PDF) that has all the Kossacks in an uproar. Please take note of items 3 through 5, but read it all thoroughly and tell me–where does he “authorize torture?”

Libs are absurd, hysterical, lying idiots. It must suck having your entire worldview based on lies and fallacy.
(Also not news: Diggtards can’t read, either.)
Maybe. (Warning: it’ll make your blood boil.)
Uncle Jimbo and Drew M (at Ace’s) give this pathetic douchebag the beatdown which he so desperately deserves. For example, Uncle Jimbo:
Do the planet a favor Mr. DeBord and STFU about real men. Your attempt to portray Gen. Petraeus as a chickenhawk is the weakest of all arguments especially coming from someone who could only charitably be called even a girly man. Go back to your fern-filled loft and compare notes on the latest swill turned out by the grape-stompers. You need to leave the important business of who shall lead our country in war to those whose concept of it has progressed farther than fashion commentary about a man whose glass you are not fit to fill.
If that drooling idiot were on fire, I wouldn’t spit on him to put it out. He is a world-class asshat, to put it mildly. Thoroughly beclowned.
BTW, here’s his Amazon review of his own book (he graciously gave himself five stars, of course). Jerk. Feel free to make a contribution to the discussion. ;)
Video from yesterday. Real Clear Politics also has video of Petraeus’ opening statement, and videos with Clinton’s and Obama’s disgraceful charades.
First, McCain’s opening statement. Nobody speaks with such clarity on the issue of Iraq (as well as foreign policy in general) like John McCain does.
This is John McCain’s Q&A with Gen. Petraeus.
Okay, I admit I sold out. There’s an ad up there scheduled for tomorrow that says “Support Troop Withdrawal.” To hell with that group. I took their money because it’s money in my pocket rather than in some moonbat’s pocket–or worse, supporting the candidacy of some miserable defeatist like Obama, Murtha, or John F’n Kerry. Besides, I need the money more than the average latte liberal does.
Anyway, I apologize for having that stupid thing–if I could change the headline, I would. Of course, I do support troop withdrawal–WHEN IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN ARE STABLE, and not a minute before then. I’m thankful that Veterans for America “supports the troops,” but they’re unapologetically partisan and their stance on the war reflects it. According to them, the surge has failed. I guess you know what that means–run away! Whatever. Thanks for the money, VFA (formerly Vietnam Veterans of America), but you’re wrong.
The other ads? Click ‘em! The more you click, the better my stats look and I can charge more money for ads. Please?
God bless the Marines and Maureen O’Haire, and may her son Wally rest in peace. This is a great story!
I would say, damn, I’m gonna miss Cheney, but with John McCain we’ll have someone who is equally true to his convictions.
MS. RADDITZ: Two-thirds of Americans say [the Iraq war is] not worth fighting.
VICE PRES. CHENEY: So?
MS. RADDITZ: So? You’re not — you don’t care what the American people think?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: No, I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.
Okay, I will miss him, but thankfully we won’t have to deal with a directionless poll-chaser in McCain. Barack Obama, on the other hand…
(And need I even bother mentioning Hillary?)
Iraqi National Security Advisor Mouwafak al-Rubaie met with McCain on his visit to Iraq (March 17, 2008), and praised McCain’s “steadfastness, perseverance and stamina” in commitment to Iraq.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, after meeting with McCain and Vice-President Cheney this week:
The Iraqi foreign minister expressed concern about growing weariness by the American public about the war and promises by rival Democratic presidential hopefuls Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama to begin withdrawing forces quickly if elected.
Clinton has not given a specific time for a pullout but said as recently as Monday that the United States must get out of Iraq because the battered American economy “cannot afford” the war. Obama has said he’ll end the war in 2009.
Zebari urged patience, saying it was premature to set a timeframe for a U.S. withdrawal as negotiations on a long-term security agreement with the United States had just begun. He said the Iraqis hoped to finalize the deal by July.
The foreign minister said adjustments could be made, but that the consequences of a premature withdrawal would be “disastrous” and all the security gains from a U.S. troop buildup “would evaporate.”
I’m just wondering, where the hell is all the press coverage of McCain’s visit? I mean other than his “gaffe” that the idiotarian left has on constant repeat, that is. (Is that all they’ve got? LOL! Epic fail!)
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton and the nutroots are still pushing the “hundred year war” fallacy about Iraq. The McCain campaign responds:
“At a time when Senator Clinton knows that American and allied forces are making real progress in Iraq, it is unfortunate that she would look to score political points by mischaracterizing Senator McCain’s statement with intellectually dishonest attacks. The differences between Senator McCain’s position, that we must win this war, and Senator Clinton’s position, withdrawal and de facto surrender on day one, are important enough to have an honest debate over. It would be the height of irresponsibility to stick with campaign promises to the left-wing of the Democratic Party and proceed with withdrawal regardless of what the situation is on the ground in Iraq in January 2009. The point that Senator McCain was making was one about American troop presence versus American combat presence. He was speaking of a post-war scenario, not a hundred year war, when he suggested that the American people could support maintaining a military presence in Iraq should the Iraqi and U.S. governments determine it to be in their mutual interest, just as the U.S. and German, Japanese, and South Korean governments did after conflicts. One would suspect Senator Clinton is aware that American troops have been present peacefully in Germany and Japan for more than six decades. The American people deserve more than blatant mischaracterizations, and we invite Senator Clinton to participate with us in an honest debate.”
I wonder if Hillary Clinton–and Barack Obama–are ever going to be willing to have an honest debate about Iraq, and fully acknowledge that we are making progress in Iraq. Saturday’s Washington Post carried a column from “boots on the ground” saying just that; will they deny the facts, or are facts too inconvenient for their partisan narrative? (I think we know the answer to that question.)
On Iraq, there is really no doubt who has been right since the very beginning. Don’t we at least owe those who have sacrificed so much–and still do–a Commander in Chief who will lead them well and honor their service and sacrifices?
UPDATE: More, from Beth at Blue Star Chronicles–McCain Was for The Surge Before the Surge was Cool.
Debbie Lee is the mother of Marc Alan Lee, the first Navy SEAL killed in Iraq. More about her here.

But, Simon’s a fucking jackass, too.
This one’s been a long time coming. Damn, this is good news! Imad Mughniyeh is one hell of a big ugly fish, and I’m only sorry that he didn’t die a more slow, painful death. Let him suffer the worst pits of hell for each of his victims.
BEIRUT, Lebanon — Imad Mughniyeh, the suspected mastermind of dramatic attacks on the U.S. Embassy and U.S. Marine barracks that killed hundreds of Americans in Lebanon in the 1980s, has died in a car bomb in Syria, Iranian state media and a Syrian rights group said Wednesday.
The Islamic militant group Hezbollah and its Iranian backers blamed Israel for the killing. Israel denied involvement.
Hezbollah did not say how or where Mughniyeh was killed. But Iranian state television and the National Organization for Human Rights in Syria said he died in a car bombing in the Syrian capital Damascus on Tuesday night.
Hezbollah’s announcement of the death came a few hours after a late night explosion in Damascus destroyed a vehicle. Witnesses in the Syrian capital said at the time that a passerby was killed as security forces sealed off the area and removed the body. But authorities there would not give details.
“Blamed Israel.” Typical. I pray it was Israel getting justice for their victims of his pure evil.
Don’t remember this particular specimen of Islamotard terrorist? I know you’ll recognize this sociopath’s work.
[I]n September 1999, Argentinian authorities issued an arrest warrant for Imad Fayez Mughniyeh (alias ‘Hajji’), a top Hizbullah security official in the 1980s and alleged leader of a sub-group called Islamic Jihad, in connection with the 1992 embassy bombing. He was later indicted for the AMIA atrocity as well.
Mughniyeh, a Lebanese Shi‘a Muslim, was indicted by the US in 1985 for the hijacking of a TWA airliner in which a US Navy diver was killed. He is also suspected of being behind a whole host of other attacks in the 1980s, including the kidnapping and murder of CIA station chief William Buckley in Beirut in 1984, as well as suicide bombings of the US embassy and a US marine barracks in which some 300 people perished. Mughniyeh and some of his associates were named in the FBI’s ‘Most Wanted’ list after the events of 11 September. His present whereabouts are unknown, although he is said to have undergone extensive plastic surgery to disguise his appearance.
Additionally, Bill Roggio wrote at the Counterterrorism Blog during the 2006 war in Lebanon about Mughniyeh:
At the outbreak of war between Israel and Hezbollah, I reported Imad Fayez Mugniyah, Hezbollah’s military commander, was likely behind the operation to snatch the Israeli soldiers, and documented Hezbollah and Mugniyah’s links to Iran and historical involvement in international terrorism. Dr. Magnus Ranstorp explained Hezbollah’s command structure and decision making processes, Mugniyah’s likely involvement with the capture of the Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah’s links to Iran and Hamas.
On Saturday, the Jerusalem Post reported on Mugniyah’s involvement in the current conflict and his past history with Fatah and in Hezbollah. Mugniyah is fingered as the likely operative “behind the abduction of the two IDF soldiers on July 12″ as well as “in charge of Hizbullah’s rocket unit in south Lebanon.”
And that’s not all. Fausta mentions his activities in Argentina:
Mughniyeh is also believed to have been behind the 1992 bombing of Israel’s embassy in Argentina in which 29 people were killed, and the blast at a Buenos Aires Jewish center two years later that killed 95.
Recently Argentina has been investigating the 1994 explosion, which is the largest terrorist attack ever staged in Latin America against a Jewish group.
This piece of shit was one of the mere handful of worst of the worst. Twenty-five years we’ve been waiting for this scumbag to get put down. Twenty-five years. I remember those days of terrorism in Beirut like it was just yesterday–after the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979, that period probably had the greatest impact of all on my overall view of the world geopolitics–even more than the Cold War. Imad Mughniyeh is essentially Osama bin Laden without the recruiting tool of the internets; his activity was likely an inspiration to Bin Laden himself, not to mention countless other terrorists. His death comes 25 years too late for the lives lost, but finally, he’s dead.
More about Imad Fayez Mugniyeh from:
* Counterterrorism expert Dan Darling (from 2006)
* Counterterrorism Blog
* DEBKA; also note that they tie Mughniyeh to Moqtada al-Sadr’s war on Americans in Iraq, as do terrorism analysts Jonathan Schanzer and Dan Darling.

“Life goes on” for us, while others sacrifice everything.
“It’s kind of hard to explain” how it feels to be part of a small segment of the U.S. population that is “bearing the brunt of the responsibilities” from today’s conflicts, Jackson said as he waited for his flight at Dulles International Airport. “It doesn’t affect society at large in the slightest. Life just goes on, and a lot of people . . . are more concerned about the price of gas than about soldiers fighting and dying,” said Jackson, who has lost several comrades in the wars.
Just go read that, and thank God for those men and women, for they allow you to carry on in complacency. We owe them the very best.
