(No, I’m not back - I’m just posting this and will be around in comments occasionally.)
April 15th is Buy a Gun Day and now there’s a website to go with it! Aaron describes BAG Day for the uninitiated:
Buy A Gun Day was conceived by me in 2003. There had been earlier attempts, but none responded to the liberal festival of forcible asset seizure into one of our own.
The goal is to get out the word and encourage not-yet-owners to at least become better informed and owners to make an effort to recruit those who may be standing on the fence or to move from the opposition to the ranks of the uncertain.
That the blogosphere enables us to coordinate the seventh Buy A Gun Day in 2009 while I live in the shadow of the Hollywood sign only makes the results of my effort sweeter.
In 2003, 54 blogs promoted the first “BAG Day“. The annual effort grew to over 200 blogs with the promotion by Kim du Toit, Free Republic, Instapundit and Hugh Hewitt. The date was also adopted by both the Liberty Belles and Moorewatch.
The United States Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15, 1791, my wife’s birthday (the month and day, that is, not the year!). I find that auspicious. Let’s work together to break at least 218 sites commemorating Buy A Gun Day this year, to highlight the 218 years of the Second Amendment.
While April 15 is of particular meaning in the United States, given the way the government plans to vastly increase our tax burdens, and those of our children and grandchildren, there is no reason whatsoever to limit your purchase to April 15!
Join us on Facebook’s Buy A Gun Day group, too.
*cough* Yeah, Facebook. That’s where I’ve been. :P
Anyway, here’s my baby.
I’ll probably just buy more ammo or a high-capacity magazine - or maybe a rifle. Something that’s in danger of being banned, probably. ;)
Other stuff for my fellow gun nuts to check out:
and of course, the NRA website(s). Join or renew your membership here!
The Supreme Court today affirmed the meaning of the 2nd Amendment, which was obvious to everyone but lawyers and liberals. And liberal lawyers.
That’s not the best part though. The best part is the reaction of the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Richard Daley, and, first up, Barry teh Obamateur™.
Obama said if elected president, he would uphold the rights of gun owners, but he said: “I know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact common-sense laws, like closing the gun show loophole and improving our background check system, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals.”
Sorry, fella, but the USSC seem to have just shot that piece of liberal obfuscation down - Cheyennne and Chicago are both subject to exactly the same 2nd Amendment; the one that enables individuals to keep and bear arms.
Mayor Richard Daley went a couple better.
Speaking during a morning event at Navy Pier, Daley said any effort to strike down Chicago’s handgun ban would likely increase taxes because of the increased need for police presence. He also says violence sparked by the end of the ban would also increase hospitalizations.
The increased taxes comment is not really a surprise, given that Democrats wake up each day wondering what they could spend somebody else’s money on, but the second comment is hilarious. Violence sparked by the end of the ban?? Does Mayor Daley think there are folks sitting at home, holding back on shooting somebody because their weapon is banned? Is this man an idiot? Answers on a postcard please.
Finally, Nancy Assad came out and basically said it would be OK for DC to ignore the Supreme Court (which I’m sure she probably does not think about the Boumedienne ruling).
“I think it still allows the District of Columbia to come forward with a law that’s less pervasive,” Pelosi said at her weekly briefing Thursday. “I think the court left a lot of room to run in terms of concealed weapons and guns near schools.”
Sorry liberals, score one for the US Constitution. Kennedy must have been feeling unwell.
“Democrats believe every day is April 15. Republicans believe that every day is July 4.“
-Ronald Reagan
It’s that time of year again…not just the dreaded tax day, it’s also Buy a Gun Day! (You know, since you “cling” to your guns with religious fervor because you’re bitter.)
Aaron’s cc: is still in Mohamster Dance mode, but he hasn’t forgotten his baby–Buy a Gun Day. You can’t buy a gun from Cafepress, but you can buy a tshirt or bumpersticker or some other BAG day swag if you don’t need to add yet another gun to your armory. ;)
Official BAG Day music video, maybe? Moronpundit has the lyrics.
I toldya there were some conservatives in death metal, Lord Bitememan. Heeee.
In all seriousness, if you don’t buy a gun today, at least do something to secure your 2nd Amendment Rights.
(The information in the video about Kansas is outdated, but everything else applies.)
Bob Carson remembers when he first held Eve:
I’ve always cherished the look Eve greeted me with as I held her in the delivery room. She was wide awake, and she sweetly peered right into my eyes with such pleasure … as if saying thanks and “I’m so glad to be here now dad.” A specialist would say it was a reaction to the newness or just being unadjusted to the hospital birthing room, but please believe me, something was just a touch different about Eve from birth.
Now all he holds are pictures and memories. Certainly you are following the news and know about the death of Eve Carson the student body president of UNC Chapel Hill. Eve was walking home very late one night. She was accosted by 2 thugs named Laurence Lovett Jr. and Demerio Atwater. She did everything liberals tell us you should do. Cooperate. Let them have their way. By all means, DO NOT FIGHT BACK! That will just make them mad. So what happened when they grabbed Eve? She cooperated. They wanted her cash, she gave it to them. They wanted her bank card and pin. She gave it to them. Once she had given them what they wanted, they shot her and left her in the street to die. She followed the liberals advice and it led to her death. Her mom and dad are suffering inconsolable grief. You cannot measure the loss of your child. It is a hole that will never be filled. Everything will remind them of their daughter. I am so sorry for them and know that nothing I say will ever help. But society lost too. Eve may have become a doctor and cured cancer. She may have invented the next fuel source. She may have discovered any number of undiscovered things. She may have raised a fine family of contributors to our society. We will never know because two thugs decided that after she gave them what they wanted, they would take her last breath too. People are already second guessing Eve. Why was she walking alone? Why was she walking so late at night? News flash: NONE OF THAT MATTERS. She had the right to be there and to be safe. Every second guess I have seen has determined that the thugs had more rights to be on the street than Eve. That is complete BS. One second guessing question I have not seen raised is: What if Eve was armed? No one will know, but if Eve had been armed and trained, this may have had a different ending. The problem is that the liberals do not want that. Better to die than to defend yourself. That is absurd. That kind of thinking is killing our society.
In some cities/states, someone unarmed would be the last line of defense for their family. They cannot defend themselves because the idiots who run the government have banned ownership of guns thinking that will stop crime. Last I saw guns are not running around neighborhoods killing people. Guns are not ripping the clothes off of defenseless women. They are not kidnapping and mutilating children. Criminals are. No criminal is suddenly going to say, “Oh, no, I can’t attack anymore, this is a gun free zone.” How stupid are these lawmakers? In those “gun free” areas, law abiding citizens would have to take a bullet while hoping that the rest of their family can escape out the back door. They should not have to. People should be able to own and carry guns. They should be able to make an effective stand against the dark using the weapon of their choice even if that weapon is their bare hands. This is not just a right to arms. It is a right to life. It is a right to defend your family. Stopping the right to defend your life or your family with a gun is saying that the criminal is more valuable than you are. I have news for the stupid liberals who made Raleigh-Durham a gun free zone: those thugs were not more valuable than Eve. It is absurd on it’s face and anyone who thinks otherwise should be eliminated from the planet.
In Canada, guns are banned from most places. There is a movement to repeal that. Here is a Canadian video on YouTube for stopping the ban on gun ownership. It is chilling to watch. You may have seen it, but it is so well done that it deserves another look. Think of Eve when you watch it. Especially scene 1:
That could be your friend, your child, you. Why should the decision of some criminal override your right to live? It is your family. It is your life. Why should you be denied a chance to protect it? The law should never stop you from defending your home, your family or yourself. Anyone who thinks otherwise does not belong on a PTA board, let alone a position of real power.
Liberals have a warped sense of reality. They find nobility in criminals and habitual dregs of society. They heap sneering derision on the building blocks of this great country: the God fearing middle Americans. They somehow feel that the very people who built this country and made it great are brainless slugs and need to be controlled and if a few die, well that’s just fine with them. Fewer “rednecks” that way. It reminds me of this picture. I think I pulled this off of C&S a couple years back.
Never let anyone who thinks like that near the White House or any other office of power. I do not think I have to explain where Barack and Hillary stand on gun control and banning guns versus McCain do I? You already know. The simple fact is the more guns in the hands of trained law abiding people the better off we are. Most cities that have banned guns have seen huge spikes in crime. The ones that did not see spikes in crime already had high crime rates. We need a leaders who will not allow the governments to become a battering ram for liberal fantasies that kill us. We need people who will push to ensure the second amendment is cut in stone, not written in invisible ink. Please think about that when you cast your ballot. Please consider people like Eve or the victims at Virginia Tech or Northern Illinois. A single firearm in the hands of a trained person may have changed everything. Because they were denied that, too many parents have nothing left but grief.
