Palin resigns

Maybe she didn’t want to be president as badly as her fans wanted her to? I don’t know. What I do know is that this is a killer for most careers and more that likely will be for her. However, just as Obama rode a perfect storm to the White House, maybe Palin can as well. Remember, the big reason that Obama won was Bush fatigue. People were so fed up with Bush and his party that they went with the unknown quantity despite the obvious flaws. If there would have been a video of Obama dealing drugs to preschoolers, it would not have mattered. He would still have been elected. That’s how badly Bush and the Republicans were hated in November. Now, the tide is turning.

There’s a good chance that Obama/Democrat fatigue will be just as great, especially when the cap and trade impact starts hitting in a couple years. Toss on his taxes and other economy killers and Americans will be ready for new blood again. Even after this, Palin could win that matchup. She would just have to get out of the primaries. That would be the tough part, yes, but her fan base is pretty rabid so it’s possible. And if not, hey, we have that nice photo shoot in Runners World!

But then again, maybe she is just looking to be private citizen Palin for the rest of her life. One of the things I really admire about her is that she is down to Earth and just like the rest of us. Speaking for myself, if I was in her shoes, I’d walk away too rather than deal with all the crap. In the meantime, another star falls from the Republican sky. If they keep disappearing like this, we’ll have to dig up Reagan’s corpse and run it. Hey, wait a minute, maybe that would work. Obama is just a teleprompter reading puppet, maybe we can get Reagan’s corpse, tie some strings to it for motion control and play some of his speeches. It just might work.

Anyway, my ADD is running amok. Sorry. God Speed Sarah Palin in what ever you decide and thanks for being the only thing worthwhile in the last election.

Fate Removes Another Prospect

So, 2012 prospect Jon Huntsman is going on exile. . . .errr. . . appointment to an ambassadorial position in China. Of course, he wasn’t our only ace in the hole. Well, wasn’t. We had Mark Sanford, but, I guess he has a tendency to flake out and go run off into the woods for a week when things get tough. Oh yeah, I can see the 3 am call ad now, Obama waking up to take the call, an empty White House bedroom for Sanford. Then the scene turns into a guy off in the woods next to a camp fire eating a squirrel on a stick. Well, here’s to hoping we have a candidate by 2016.

UPDATE Nevermind, like so many of our supposed party leaders, he’s just cheating on his wife. *facepalm*

Obama Finds That Pick. . .

Obama stated on the campaign trail that he would look for bench picks for the courts that had “empathy” for various groups. In selecting Sonia Sotomayor, Obama established one thing, compassion for competant firefighters who qualify for well deserved promotions is not one of his prerequisites. Hopefully Anthony Kennedy isn’t a douche who comes to the conclusion that a Title IX approach to affirmative action (eliminating programs and practices because you can’t achieve equality of results) is just fine by him.

Ok, well, that’s interesting. Thank you foxfier. I googled the crap out of this after hearing the local radio dude talk about it and missed that fox article. I went right for the Raliegh WRAL station’s account and obviously there is a hell of a lot more to this. Most articles were blog posts that ranted like I did. This is why we need 2 sources… So, I stand corrected. I still hate the patriot act. It is crap, but in this case, it’s not the patriot act causing Ashton’s issues. If he did what they say, then it’s fryin’ time.

I don’t like the patriot act. Any legislation that is passed in an emergency when emotions are high is going to be a piece of crud. Plus, the fact they have to disguise what it is, a grab on freedoms, by calling it the patriot act should tell you all. Disagree and you not a patriot. Well, I despise it.

You see, it’s one thing to give unending power to the government when you trust the people in charge. But we watched while Bill Clinton used the IRS and other government branches to go after his political enemies or anyone who became a nusance. You can trust your guy with power, sure. But eventually, your guy won’t be the one wielding that power.

Today’s I hate the patriot act comes in the form of Ashton Lundeby of Oxford North Carolina. Supposedly, Ashton Lundeby made a bomb threat. The FBI stepped in and invoked the patriot act and Ashton Lundeby has disappeared. A dozen federal agents attacked the house that Ashton was living in and after tearing it apart found nothing to convict him with. Didn’t matter. The patriot act was invoked and off to another state he went. He’s “being held” in a juvey hall in Indiana. His mom has not been allowed any sense of reasonable contact with him. He has not been formally charged. He has not had a hearing. He is not being allowed a lawyer. Oh, meet 16 year old Ashton.

Yeah, a real scary one Ashton is. This country didn’t need the patriot act for over 200 years, it doesn’t need it now. A few minor adjustments to the laws at the time (the Gorelick wall for one) could have stopped 9/11. What we have now is the FBI was wrong and they don’t want to admit it. So, hold the kid until he’s 18 then send him to the new Gitmo that Obama is signing off on. I was wondering if the ACLU would step in, but since the FBI is now Obama’s and not Bush’s, I somehow doubt they will care about civil liberties. We need to kill the patriot act and send Ashton back home where he belongs. This is not what it was for. It should not be allowed to be misused again.

One year after Maryland instituted a special tax on millionaires, the number of millionaires, according to tax records, has dropped from about 3,000 to about 2,000.

The Baltimore Sun: “Taxes collected from those returns as of last month have declined by roughly $100 million.”

The local Chamber of Commerce argues that it’s because the millionaires are moving away to Virginia and Pennsylvania (easier in Maryland than in some other states, since it’s so small). State officials say it’s too early to tell. Uh-huh

So our friends at the Moxargongroup have a theory. The media has grabbed onto the theory that Obama didn’t know of the Protocol Office in the State Department. Hence his inane stupidity in dealing with other countries. Obama hasn’t taken the time to locate it what with all his interviews and tv appearances and rock star trips. However, one person knew of the Protocol Office and obviously didn’t tell him. She was the first lady for 8 years and certainly dealt with them. So, why did she keep it quiet???
