URGENT help needed, via Jane at Armies of Liberation, who is the go-to for news about the Yemeni dictatorship. A prominent pro-democracy journalist in Yemen is facing a jail sentence–again:
Renowned journalist Abdulkarim al-Khaiwani is one of Yemen’s most prominent democracy advocates - for which he has paid a steep price. His paper has been closed, his website blocked, and his children threatened. He is now due to be sentenced on May 21 for “insulting the president” and “demoralizing the military.”
During his arrest in June of 2007, Al-Khaiwani was beaten and his six-year-old daughter slapped unconscious. While released on bail in August, Al-Khaiwani was kidnapped and tortured by thugs who threatened his life if he continued to write about Yemen’s president.
As al-Khaiwani’s sentencing approaches, there is growing fear a guilty verdict will open the door for a brutal crackdown on Yemen’s already-endangered journalistic community. Join with al-Khawiani’s supporters in Yemen and throughout the world as we urge the Yemeni government not to imprison journalists for their work.
Al-Khaiwani stands on principle for free speech. When he was arrested in 2004 (for “insulting the president”), prison guards broke his jaw - yet he still refused to agree to stop writing. In June of 2007, he was re-arrested on similar charges and dragged outside in his underwear. After being released on bail, he abducted by gunmen who broke his fingers threatened to kill him if he “wrote another word against the president or national unity.”
Civil rights advocates inside Yemen and abroad believe the charges against al-Khaiwani are unsubstantiated and simply punishment for his critical reporting. In fact, one of the main pieces of evidence used against him by prosecutors is an unpublished article criticizing Yemen’s president.
All I ask is for you to send a letter–it’s already filled out, you just have to send it. You won’t get spammed or anything; you can opt-in for updates from them about freedom of the press in Yemen if you want. (Or you can just read Jane’s blog, like I do, and get other news as well, like the latest on the USS Cole bombers.) You can keep your name off the public list, too.
Jane tells me this is due to get some major media coverage in the region, so every bit of support is needed. Just one minute of your time, please. Click and send the letter.
Nope, it’s not Obama (not this time, anyway). It’s just yet another disciple from his Amen Corner in the media - Michael Hirsch at Newsweek. No need for me to add a single thing to what (the other) McCain has written. Except maybe this…
Shorter Michael Hirsch:
Ace (in the sidebar links)
I dunno, this is just goofy as hell.
LAME.
Don’t get me wrong–I’m at least as pissed about gas prices as anyone, but this looks weird. I wouldn’t even know how to caption it, and there’s no photoshop necessary. Oh, wait…I’ve got it.
Eh, quick ‘n’ dirty, but it’ll do.
Just as the New York Slimes “endorsed” John McCain and later launched the Most Ridiculous Smear Campaign of the season on him, they’ve done it again–this time with Hillary. Remember they endorsed her? LOL.
The Pennsylvania campaign, which produced yet another inconclusive result on Tuesday, was even meaner, more vacuous, more desperate, and more filled with pandering than the mean, vacuous, desperate, pander-filled contests that preceded it.
Voters are getting tired of it; it is demeaning the political process; and it does not work. It is past time for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to acknowledge that the negativity, for which she is mostly responsible, does nothing but harm to her, her opponent, her party and the 2008 election.
By staying on the attack and not engaging Mr. Obama on the substance of issues like terrorism, the economy and how to organize an orderly exit from Iraq, Mrs. Clinton does more than just turn off voters who don’t like negative campaigning. She undercuts the rationale for her candidacy that led this page and others to support her: that she is more qualified, right now, to be president than Mr. Obama.
She’s not qualified to be President because she isn’t worshipping at the altar of Teh Obamessiah!
HAHAHAHAHAHA. FAIL! Poor, innocent widdle Prince Barry. Everyone’s picking on him, and he’s playing so nicey-nice! Not. He talks a big story about “unity” and other bullshit platitudes, but in the same speeches he bloviates these things, he’s as divisive and negative as anyone else, and far more gloomy and prone to exaggeration, if not outright lies. Obviously, the NYT editors and others in Obama’s Amen Corner are too blinded by his dazzling halo to comprehend plain English. Hot Air has video of Hillary’s response to the NYT hit.
Make no mistake–Hillary won big last night, but she isn’t going to win the nomination. Period. I think she knows it, too–and has for a while. Rich Lowry points out what should be obvious to anyone by now.
She’s preparing the demographic ground for McCain, by getting white working-class Democrats used to (if you will) not voting for Obama. And she’s softening Obama up for McCain, prodding at and exposing her fellow Democrats’ weaknesses.
If you’ve paid attention at all to Dick Morris over the last several years, regardless of your feelings about him (he’s got Hillary Derangement Syndrome in a bad way), you know why she’d do this. She knows–or should know, unless yesterday Pennsylvania made her overconfident–that her campaign for 2008 is effectively over, and she’s preparing for 2012. She can’t win in 2012 if Obama is President. Not that she will win in 2012, but you can be sure she’ll die trying.
I wonder, will the New York Times be willing to call attacks on John McCain the “Low Road?” What about their own attacks? With all the money being raised by the DNC and the lib 527s, is there any doubt that the Dems are going to throw everything they can imagine at McCain, hoping something will stick? They all talk about wanting a substantive campaign, but what they’re really saying is that they want to be treated with kid gloves, while they fling poo at the Republicans. Hypocrisy is the hallmark of the Left, and the New York Times is the chief propagandist arm of all that hypocrisy.
I cannot help myself. Even though teh Obamessiah™ is now almost certain to be the opponent in November, I still seek out and laugh at examples of lefty columnists writing plain truths that we have known for years about Hillary! Like they have some sort of amazing insight!!
(OMG, I have a secret to tell you: Hillary Clinton is a liar!!!! No, seriously, she tells lies!!!!)
This time it’s the unerringly pompous Richard Cohen, who reveals some blindingly obvious facts about Hillary - namely that she couldn’t tell truth from a broomhandle up her arse, a truism which he’s only just noticed: oh but by the way, Hillary’s lying is Bush’s fault!!
The story was just plain nuts — and Clinton herself has been at a loss to explain it. But for many voters, it encapsulated their suspicion, their anxiety, their hesitation about Clinton: She lies.
NEVER!!!! Really??????
…but let me suggest Bush’s “worst legacy” is what he has done to whatever trust Americans still had in their government. This administration’s incessant lying, its secrecy — its creepy Cheneyism with its petty justifications for torture and violation of privacy — is its worst legacy, one that will endure long after Wal-Mart opens a branch in Sadr City. Only an idiot would trust this government.
See? Hillary is a liar because Bush secretly tortured Iraqi children and listened to their cellphone conversations in Dick Cheney’s basement. It’s not hard!!
And that Wal-Mart gag? Comedy gold.
Maybe we could have Ricardo Cohen’s views on the secrecy surrounding Vince Foster turning up, ahem, dead, in the White House Counsel’s Office. I won’t wait for that little gem.
Errrm, but incessant lying, Little Richard? With not one example cited? Not one???Surely if the lying were so ‘incessant’ we might be treated to a little ‘for instance’ by a writer of Mr Cohen’s (self) importance? Mais non. Rien.
He does include one HUMDINGER in his final paragraph, though; revealing the feelings of 60% of Americans (who have felt this way for 16 years, while Dick Cohen was rubbing himself at the thought of Bill’s Great Works™):
Now, about 60 percent of the electorate doubts her honesty.
We do, we do, but only due to your guidance, oh perspicacious one. Thank you.
Sorry, I don’t feel like blogging today; I feel like playing instead. I’ve already done a bajillion Obama logos–it’s my new web fixation, now that my Hillary Is Mom Jeans habit has run its course.
Here are some of the ones I did (which I posted here yesterday):
Two more for the in-your-face factor. ;-P

See everyone's at the Logobama Flickr group, including the ones you do (after approval) .
I detect a VRWC presence there. ;)
If you do some, stick ‘em in the comments here too! For that matter, stick any Obama photoshops in the comments, if you want. We’ll make it the Unofficial BaMOCK Obama thread.
By the way, I’m changing some of my social network icons to these. Here’s Twitter - Slobokan and I are trying to start a trend. ;-)
Oh wait–one more thing that I just spotted on Twitter: Barack Obama’s favorite Jeremiah Wright speech is full of invective and hatred. Of course.
Images work in comments - fire away!
Looks like some people agree.

Oh, this could be hella fun. MWAHAHAHAHA!
Make your own logo at Logobama. Here are a couple quick ‘n’ dirty ones, just because I had the pics readily available.

There’s a collection of them from Logobama at Flickr–this one’s my favorite so far. No wait, this one with Reagan is. ;-)
Get Barack Obama logos in vector format at Wikipedia (.svg) and at Brands of the World (.ai).
This is gonna be fun. heeeheeee (Do you know how conducive this logo is for goatse manipulation?)
Okay, I AM having too much fun with this. More pics below the fold (don’t worry, no goatse).
Waaaaahh, it’s not fair when those racists ask me questions that make me uncomfortable!!!
HALP ME, Nutroots! If you’re a true believer, you’ll harass all the blasphemers!

Because Tennyson shared his SNOBama masterpiece with the world, I’ll share my pale imitation as well. (No making t-shirts off it, though–I need the money.
Speaking of Snobama and shirts, AuthenticGOP.com has SNOB shirts available!
UPDATE: And he’s still an elitist snob.
First, the Democrats. Check this out, and file it away in your dossiers for the general election, kids. I told you this might happen. ;-P
Don’t go counting those votes yet, though–there are still seven arduous months left in this fight. Still, unless Hillary’s got some extremely well-trained supporters simply issuing idle threats, this looks promising. On all counts, McCain is so far beyond Obama in qualifications and fitness for the job it’s almost comical, and I think by November it’ll be clear to a lot more people. Teh Obamessiah’s halo is starting to lose some of its luster–finally. The more you know, the less there is to like.
Now, for the Republicans. The “unhappy Republicans” have always been a question mark, and there are still plenty of them out there, to be sure. I can’t imagine, though, that people like Ann Coulter are going to allow this crypto-Marxist latte liberal Obama win. But here’s what they’re saying at Real Clear Politics:
Among the unhappy Bush supporters whom McCain has lured back to his campaign, about half say they are conservative, yet their views on issues are more moderate than many in the party, with some opposing the war in Iraq. They have favorable but not intensely enthusiastic views of McCain — for example, two-thirds find him likeable while far fewer find him compassionate or refreshing.
“He’s known, he’s a veteran,” said David Tucker, a retired Air Force technician from Alexandria, La., and Bush voter who was undecided last November but has ruled out Obama and Clinton. “I understand him better.”
Note that these are unhappy Bush voters–the issue of the Coulter/Limbaugh wing wasn’t addressed in the article. I’m personally optimistic on that front, though.
Meanwhile, SurveyUSA has a fresh set of general election polls today, and the trends don’t look good for Snobama.
That said, the Obama machine is still racking up the donations (get a load of this whiny plea!), and we’ve all heard about the 527s planning on a $40 million-plus attack on McCain. It will be impossible to get our message out in the face of such an onslaught if we can’t raise some money, and the voting public has a short memory. Will they remember Jeremiah Wright or the “clingy” churchgoers and gun-owners in November? Or will they have been brainwashed into believing the Left’s lies that McCain is “too old” or “doesn’t know anything about the economy” (dumbest libfail meme ever) or that he’ll be a “Bush third term?” That’s all absurd, but it’s what the left is planning on using against John McCain, and you know how fond they are of Goebbels’ tactic of repeating a bald-faced lies until they become “truthy.” All you have to do is think about the last eight years of relentless attacks on Bush and all other Republicans.
Come on, you don’t want the candidate of Hamas, Chavez, Ahmadinejad, MoveOn, Media Matters, Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, and every other anti-American figure on the planet to be President of the United States, do you? We can see already that John McCain can win, but like I said, we’ve got seven months to go. Donate, and stop Obama.
Yay! I finally found video that got most of Darth Cheney’s bit. Awesome.
Mitt Romney was funny!
I wish I had video from Cheney at the Radio & Television Correspondents’ Dinner too, ’cause he cracked me up. Maybe tomorrow.
I was cheering when I saw this on Red Eye last night. Since it’s on at an insane hour (for most people), you may have missed it. Thankfully, FNC posts the Gregalogue videos.
AMEN!
I’m thinking that between this and SNOBama, we might have a full-blown photoshopfest coming, á la the Mohammed cartoons or Pallywood. How about it, y’all?
More at Ace’s.
Exactly what I was looking for. This one’s a keeper.
What next, a Jon Carry “botched joke” about dummies ending up in Iraq?
(Related entry, also here.)
