Round the Reader Friday - My Echo Chamber Edition

- The Emperor at the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler gives atheists a well-deserved ass-whippin’ for screeching "THEOCRAT!!!" every time the word (warning: un-PC word follows) GOD is uttered or implied in public. It IS gettting pretty tiresome hearing that truly Idiotarian nonsense.
- Ace of Spades wraps up President Bush’s press conference, and talks about the Bush plans for Social Security reform and gas prices. As usual, the critics never offer any alternatives, just complaints. He then rightfully takes people to task for crying about cutting spending after they’ve been crying about too much spending.
- basil (not "Basil") meets Evil Glenn Reynolds at Blog Nashville and gives us the scoop. "HEH."
- BLACKFIVE introduces us to Army Specialist Matt Braddock and Soldiers’ Angel Willie Aumfkolk as part of his ongoing Someone You Should Know series. After you read it, please go check out the Soldiers’ Angels website and consider helping out with a donation or by "adopting" a soldier or platoon!
- Arthur Chrenkoff, who regularly brings us Good News From Iraq, congratulates Iraqis as Iraq’s National Assembly has approved the country’s first democratically elected government, AND he gets published in an Iraqi newspaper! Congratulations to Arthur Chrenkoff!
- The Cranky Neocon spreads a crappy meme.
- Steve at Hog on Ice continues to torment the Nigerian spammers. If you get spammed (don’t we all?)–and even if you don’t (ehh, it must be nice) you will LOVE his Good Morning, Nigeria! series.
- Spacemonkey announces the Inaugural Edition of the Carnival of Comedy at IMAO! Yay Spacemonkey!
- Do you know who Roy Hallums is? He’s an American contractor who was taken hostage in Iraq in November. Rusty Shackelford from The Jawa Report has been on top of the story since the beginning, and was the first to report on him. He’s been in contact with Roy Hallums’ family since the beginning, and has an exclusive four-part interview with Mr. Hallums’ ex-wife and his daughter. This is a definite must-read! See: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.
- Headmistress SondraK asks you to "complete this sentence". heeheehee
- Michele Agnew is coming up with a new comment game based on blogrolls, but she’s not ready with it yet so in the meantime, she’ll be doing the Weekend Meet & Greet comment game! (Did you play the Meet & Greet here yet?)
- Michelle Malkin has an update on Laura Ingraham, who had surgery on Tuesday after being diagnosed with breast cancer last Friday. She got good news!
- Sigmund, Carl, and Alfred ask, "Where did feminism go wrong?" in a thought-provoking post (as usual!), where he adds a few more therapeutic thoughts to some ideas he had.
- Jody at Steal the Bandwagon finally kills a crappy meme! (My phrase of the week: Blogroll Jody, or else!)
- Eric at Vince Aut Morire tells an anti-Social Security-reform partisan hack why his weak attempt at spewing party line bullshi’ite is…well, bullshi’ite.
- And last but not least, Preston at Six Meat Buffet has another link dump for ya, when you’re finished with this one!

I’m back in business

It’s not my day for Round the Reader, but hey, why not do it anyway? (Yesterday’s was done at Cry Freedom AND American Dinosaur.)
 Interesting discussion about the Iraqi constitution over at The Corner, starting with some (somewhat understandable) hand-wringing by Andrew McCarthy. I’m not so worried (see the others’ responses–Rich Lowry’s in particular–for explanation)…YET. I’m not happy about the inclusion of the language of sharia, but I’m not going to over-react…yet.
 Stop the ACLU is trying to raise money. Jay writes (via email):
We are trying to raise money to get an ad for stoptheaclu.org in the Washington Times. It will cost $2500 for a full page ad…this is in the weekly edition. It would be $10,000 for the daily. So we’re going for the smaller amount.
 See more in the ACLU’s war against American lives here and here.
 Steven Vincent’s widow Lisa Ramaci-Vincent bitch-slaps Asshat Emeritus Juan Cole. Hard. (Via LGF).
[Hang on, dammit...my DSL connection sucks right now, so I'm going back to bed. I'll finish this later.]
UPDATE: OK, I’m back with more.
 Does a fisking count when it’s this easy? Mad Dog Vinnie shakes down yet another NY Times display of bleatasticfarktardism. (I even emailed this one to the dumbass.)
 Signaleer (aka RTO Trainer) beat up this same idiot (Bob Herbert) last week, and hasn’t let up–he’s got a followup.
 Even better, Signaleer has Good News from the Middle East, with Good News from Iraq forthcoming.
 The Bonfire of the Vanities #112 is up with all kinds of snarky goodness, at Right Wing Nuthouse. Don’t forget, the Carnival of the Clueless will be there too, tomorrow!
 Mary Katharine Ham is following the Michael Graham firing. Follow the links!
 Go vote in Patrick Ruffini’s straw poll! You can pick your candidate, plus vote for a “fantasy candidate” (in other words, those who have said they’re not running). [h/t Mary Katharine Ham]
 Sissy Willis contemplates intellectual complacency, and its effect on liberalism and conservatism. She shares my conviction in that:
The leftist utopian dream was doomed from the start because it denied the economic logic of nature and human nature.
 I dare anyone to mock Jane with taunts of “101st Keyboard Brigade”–she’s one with whom the pen is definitely mightier than the sword, in her tireless campaign for freedom in Yemen. She’s got an op-ed column in the Saudi Arab News, exactly the forum in which she wanted it printed. Armies of Liberation, indeed!
 The Anchoress‘ “Family Medical and Other Concerns” list is getting distressingly long. Keep her and her family in your prayers. She’s left us with a meaty list of links while “Family Overtakes the Blog.”
And with that, I’m going to let my family overtake the blog for a bit…I’ll probably add to this post later.
UPDATE 2:
 Only a mean, heartless jerk hates dogs.
 Jeff Goldstein–no Christian Right “fundie”–puts Pat Robertson’s Chavez comments in some much-needed perspective.
…it is nevertheless imperative that we don’t lose sight of who the real villian is here.
Really.
 Via Riehl World View, not a Natalee update (although they are there, of course): Child/teen bloggers giving out too much information, although I have to say I’m not surprised. My question is, why the hell aren’t their parents monitoring their sites and email? Say what you want, but there’s an enormous difference between “invading” a child’s “privacy” (scare quotes intentional) and being a responsible parent, looking out for your child’s safety and well-being.

Welcome to the My Echo Chamber Edition of Round the Reader!
Yes, it’s self-indulgent, but hey, I’m a blogger–aren’t we all to some extent? ;-) So, on with it!

[UPDATE: Late dinner at basil's blog, because I'm stuck in the Beltway Traffic Jam!]

HA! The Ultimate Lazy Blogging Assignment!
Today is supposed to be Chris Short’s Round the Reader day, but I’ve been called up as a relief reader/blogger for today. Beulah Mae (BEULAH MAE!!!!) is suffering from burnout and can’t think of a damn thing to say. (You know, she’s not the most complex and profound thing around.)
So guess what I’m doing - White Trash Round the Reader!
* basil Cousin Red has some lovely photos of a congenitally stupid and trashy family in some wedding pictures. Even White Trash has “black sheep” of the family–and this one’s no exception. Theirs is a quite striking young man who clearly doesn’t belong in this clan of embarrassing creatures.
* Find out why the word “odd” is in the hilarious Oddybobo’s name. Also see a pic of her new penthouse! Sweet!
* The Cranky Neocon might think he’s not doing White Trash today, but I think he is.
* Rick at Cry Freedom says “Work Sucks.” Seeing how he hasn’t updated since Monday, it must really suck.
* Chris at Dangerous Logic is possessed by Butthead. (Quite fittin’ for White Trash Wednesday.) And for you WTW devotees, he has an update to a previous white trash news item.
* SADIE LOU finally got her hot rollers back from BEULAH MAE!!! Just in time, too, since she, BEULAH MAE, and RAE DAWN have a big girls’ night out planned, and she doesn’t want to be looking ragged like her friend who lost his mullet!
* Hector Vex starts off the day with the Queen of White Trash’s big announcement, and moves on through a variety of other topics (including a review of Doom 3) all in one post.
* It is what it is at Zeke’s, and he’s got the photo to prove it.
* RAE DAWN hasn’t gotten home from her job slingin’ hash at the diner yet, but Merri is talking tasers and the crybabies (the usual suspects) who complain about police use of them.
* Dan, in a Riehl-ly unexpected move, decides it’s time to give Paul at Wizbang a break in a White Trash Wednesday gesture of peacemaking.
* Want some real white trash? Preston found White Trash Headquarters not too far from home, and it’s not even funny, just sick. However, he’s also found this, which IS funny.
* Like a lot of other bloggers, Sortapundit weighs in on the debate over Mormon baptisms of the dead.
For those who object to such practice and have said so in writing (including on a blog), I wonder if their families can sue the Church of LDS if they do it anyway? I’ll say this: I don’t really care, because isn’t it too late once you’re dead? But still, I don’t want them disrespecting my religious preference or anyone else’s. It’s a matter of respect. Leave my rotting corpse alone, thank you very much. And that’s all I’ve got to say about that.
* PileOn® has his “foot on the pulse of the blogosphere,” apparently because his middle finger is rightfully otherwise occupied (along with many others’ fingers).
* B2 at Toner Mishap shares a recent shopping experience and ponders ridiculous marketing tactics.
* CLETUS is probably still passed out on a street corner, but in the meantime, Eric compiles some news items to make PETA squeal like a pig tree. [Update: Yecccchhhh!]
* In actually important news, Rusty Shackelford is all over the story of Jeffrey Ake, an American civilian contractor taken hostage in Baghdad. Echoing his sentiments, I also ask, where was the media before Al Jazeera aired the videotape today? And what about the other hostages–are they not worth noting because the media can’t air Islamofascist propaganda when there’s no video done? They only deserve attention when their pictures are accompanied by such hateful publicity for terrorists?

Ummm…oops, I farked up (again) and forgot it was my day for Round the Reader posting. What can I say, I don’t have a job and my daughter’s on spring break so I didn’t pay attention to what day of the week it is.
So, in lieu of a REAL RTR post, if you really want to see all the stuff I’ve been reading today, go HERE.

A BREAK from Terri-blogging… I know some of you have found me a bit serious, if not monotonous lately. (Rittenhouse and others, this post is for you.) And for that matter, for me–I need a sanity break.
* Emperor Misha shows off his mad skillz in a frivolous post of his own! I always say, the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler is the smartest blog on the “internets” with the smartest Loyal Citizens…
* Spacemonkey has a list of “Starving Songs” at IMAO (see the comments too!) and at the FSMC.
* Jeff at Beautiful Atrocities tells a sweet little story about a duck.
* SondraK’s got her concealed carry permit. (Freud would be quite pleased!)
* Dan skewers a disgrace to humanity (understatement of the year)…and another one…
* While we’re on provocative posts, Ace has a link to inadvertent sexual moments in video games. HEH. (Note to Eric in Ace’s comments: I hadn’t seen this before, either.)
* Eric is still Photoshopping the leaders of the death cult…as he says, have fun and root for Terri.
* Jeff Goldstein and INDC Bill make their radio show debut at Rightalk Radio. You can still catch replay of the show if you missed it, but also check out the comments here. Hilarious!
* I forgot to put up a reminder the other day - The Bonfire of the Vanities #90 is up at Overtaken by Events. (Too bad his trackbacks apparently ended up in the bonfire too.)
* Rick at Cry Freedom has some “great headlines” in a great Round The Reader post!
* Tuesday’s RTR is at Drumwaster’s Rants with more excellent reading material.
* Scott at Speed of Thought apparently has the same problem I have–Speed of Snooze Button, but he pulled it together by lunch time.
That’s the round-up, folks! Be sure to go to BlogsForTerri for the latest updates on the Schiavo case.
UPDATE: OK, one more link. This one isn’t frivolous though. It’s good to see another pro-Terri blogger on the right (Ace) taking note of those on all sides of the political spectrum that support the Schindlers–and that he thinks the same way I do about certain unnamed libertarian-leaning bloggers.
UPDATE 2: Moved this post up.
(Huh? I thought you had Friday, Beth…?)
Yeah, well I kinda spaced it because of my blog-ADHD so I’m doing it today.
First, though, make phone calls and send email. Then send a package to Terri.
Here’s my slap-happy roundup!

God, where do I start? All Terri? Nah, you know where to go for that. HERE or HERE or HERE.
You know, I just want to be snarky to start, because I’m tired and this has been getting laughable.
Where the hell are these guys on Terri? Conspicuously absent, unlike in 2003. Suffer from insomnia? I’ve found some reading material for you. Remind me to remove the elevator music from my feed reader. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
[/snark]
FIRST on the roundup, I’ve been remiss in sharing the linky love with my analyst. Look how long-winded I can be OUTSIDE my own blog! How many times have I said “I shoulda just blogged the damn thing”? (Maybe you’ve seen me say that in your comments?) Thankfully, I haven’t been declared completely insane. Best damn blog psychoanalyst anywhere!
Jody of the even-numbered comments at Steal the Bandwagon has a heartfelt post up related to Jessica Lunsford, (another casualty of stupid Florida laws, and evil farked-up scum that don’t even deserve to be called trailer trash).
Dan at Riehl World View reports on a new grassroots organization, and in another post makes my eyes bleed. (Damn you! Bonfire of the Vanities worthy post!)
Eric of Vince Aut Morire presents: How to Have Fun And Root for Terri Schiavo, part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4. I’m sure he’ll have more forthcoming–he’s got new image editing software. (UPDATE: Part 5, Part 6)
The Commissar (obviously now having experienced glastnost) is back posting with more frequency, and has this about more Iraqis fighting back against Zarqawi’s thugs. Excellent.
Michelle Malkin rounds up some of the coverage of the two year anniversary of the start of the Iraq War.
Bill Whittle isn’t dead? Kool!
Blackfive posts some links to some good “Support the Troops” sites. Get to it! He’s also got a new Someone You Should Know up.
BLOG WAR! Complete with Gizoogle, Paris Hilton’s cell phone number, The Niggas at DFNCTSC (?), Strip clubs in Ohio with midget strippers, girls big tit, free big tit sites, Jamie Lynn Spears naked, sortapundit and sortapundit, and pirate thongs–all at basil’s blog. Plus some crumpet munchers and Bad Guys!

Thank God It’s Friday! This of course means it’s my day for “Round the Reader”, where I share some of what’s in my feed reader…be sure to check out the other feed freaks by each day on the sidebar (or at the end of this post)! Here goes…
The Mad Tech puts up HIS collection of WTF news links (not blog links) in his WTF Friday Rant. Heh.
Sigmund, Carl & Alfred interrupt their usually scheduled programming to RANT about a Kossack (big surprise) who compares the perpetrators of the Holocaust to the “religious right.” Spot on!
The Spam Huntress (aka Ann Elisabeth) found yet another new bandwidth-sucking spambot and shares the IP address. If you’re on the receiving end of this trash, she IS the one to turn to. Dig through her archives for all sorts of information–seriously, I’ve completely eliminated my spam thanks to her!
Right Wing News‘ John Hawkins takes a look at the most-circulated names for the 2008 GOP nomination. As I said there, I agree with all of his points, unfortunately, despite my being a Condi Rice disciple. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–take a look at Senator George Allen (R-VA).
In a “startling development,” Dan of Riehl World View has an EXCLUSIVE report that the military has been cleared in the Giuliana “Shower of Bullets” Sgrena mishap!
Greyhawk says you can be a star–the TLC network is looking for a few good stories of military who will be returning from the war between now and May, in a special called “Operation Homecoming” to be aired on Memorial Day.
Dean Esmay says “Please God, No,” to there being a new Cheech & Chong movie in the works…a commenter there said it well with “There’s something that just isn’t right with watching two men old enough to be your grandfather act stoned. Age: The Anti-Drug.” (Dean is probably wondering why this is something to link to…hey, it caught my eye!) Of course, there are more substantial current posts there as well…but hey, it’s FRIDAY, people!
In fact, since it’s Friday, let’s just add some more levity here.
Jeff at Beautiful Atrocities posts a desperate letter from an unnamed woman mysteriously called “Sondra K.” about her “Twelve Mohammeds,” and his response. Pigs in a blanket!
This JUST IN: The Red State Rant has been kidnapped (blognapped?) by a pirate and is being held for booty!
While basil is away on the high seas, he shares his blog with us…
HEH.
(How’s that for an IP-style link?)
Frank J. tells us how to prepare for the impending crackdown on blogs. Er…Larrys.
Moonbatologist Claire has found a means of defending her “Larry.” Wicked effing Kool!
Eric (Vince Aut Morire) joins in the fun of Google referrals. So does Preston.
Thankfully, I don’t have any even close to theirs…I get hits from “farkfrance” searches all the time though, and until this post I only had one sloppy link to them.
The Cranky Neocon excerpts a fabulous new Broadway musical! (Really, Gordon, I had no idea you were such a fan.)
And finally, Michele Agnew invites us to solve a mystery. I KNOW whodunit though (apparently she’s in hiding?).
Michele also lays down the law in a rare rant (what is it with obnoxious commenters anyway?!).

Today is Friday, so it’s my day for the Round the Reader post–have you been reading everyone else’s posts? (See the sidebar for the daily links.) So on to what I’m reading this morning…
HA! I got the “good day,” at least today. Martha is free! And where better to enjoy Martha’s freedom than in her diary? It’s “a good thing,” you know.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the attempt to take away our freedom of speech, haven’t you? Michelle Malkin has the roundup of bloggers’ protests.
Of course, no one knows how to put such things in perspective like Emperor Misha, who says “Bring it on, you censoring f**kwits.”
The incomparable Jane reminds us to sign the petition to support freedom of the press for journalists in the oppressive Middle East. If you haven’t read the story of Adbulkarim Al-Khaiwani, you should!
In a post certain to drive the left further into post-election distress, Jason Smith of GOP Bloggers reminds us all of the spread of democracy that has happened on President Bush’s watch.
Rusty Shackelford shows evidence of lefty bloggers’ desire to crush such demokratik freedom! He also reports on the Lebanese struggle to become free of the Syrian terrorist regime. In an all-too-rare occurrence, the Commisar makes a brief appearance (well, yesterday) to pile on against Syria.
Regime Change Iran reports on Iran sending killers abroad to silence dissent. Will Iran and Syria ever allow the freedoms that are erupting all around them?
In two RIEHL rants, Dan expresses his freedom to say SHUT UP and his freedom to blog the way he wants to!
And finally, because we should all have the FREEDOM TO LIVE, Richard reports at Blogs For Terri that Kate Adamson, a disability rights activist, has joined in the fight to save Terri Schiavo. Adamson herself was once herself considered “beyond hope” after a catastrophic stroke and actually suffered through her own feeding tube being turned off for a week–but now actually lives a full life with only some paralysis on the left side of her body.
Also at Blogs For Terri, Tim reports that Judge George Greer has released the Department of Children and Families document (PDF) that accuses Michael Schiavo of abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation and names him as being responsible for mistreatment of Terri. It is shocking!
(Please don’t forget about the fight for Terri Schiavo; if you want to join the BlogsForTerri effort, just go here and join the blogroll here if you’re willing to devote some blogging time to her.)
NOTE: Comments are screwy here for now since the upgrade to Wordpress 1.5. If you leave a comment, it’s going to show as “Anonymous.” Just put your name/link in the text of the comment if you don’t want to be “anonymous.” I know it’s a pain, but I am looking for a way to fix it.
(For now, until the next time my old-ass house decides to fark with my ability to use broadband.)
A few things to catch up on:
I’m joining in another group of bloggers (what’s up with that? I’m not a “joiner”…maybe I’m just lazy?), and we’ll be doing “Round the Reader” posts, basically a roundup of some of the things on our RSS readers. Here’s the schedule:
* Monday - Cry Freedom
* Tuesday - Drumwaster
* Wednesday - Our Life
* Thursday - Speed of Thought
* Friday - ME!
Drumwaster has the inaugural post up already:
This is Scott’s baby, so if you want to join in, Saturday and Sunday are still open. Email him to be part of Round the Reader blogging.
Other items of interest:
The Bonfire of the Vanities is up at The Zero Boss! As expected, Jay Allen has an entertaining roundup of bloggers’ worst, or most obnoxious, or most guilty blog posts.
Given the inordinate pain this week’s entries caused me, I figured I’d return the favor by relaying the links in unrhymed iambic pentameter in the style of Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s classic poem “Ulysses”. By the time you’ve reached the end (and Goddess help you if you make it that far), you’ll have learned an important lesson:
YOU ARE ALL MY BITCHES.
I’m guilty of playing in the Bonfire every week (I always have at least one shi’itety post) and not yet hosting. One of these times…if I can muster the creativity to make a bunch of junk sound good like Jay and others do…
You may know that Ohio’s Secretary of State Ken Blackwell is running for Governor of Ohio. There’s now an unofficial blog set up with updates on the campaign and information about Ken Blackwell. You may not be able to vote for him, but you can still help support the campaign–find out more at Ohio For Blackwell.
Remember the Blogger Babe of the Week? Mary Katharine Ham tells me she’s planning on doing another one at Townhall’s C-log this week; she’s just been swamped with other things so it got put off in favor of more, shall we say, substantial material. I of course read Townhall and the C-log daily, as should you, but I’ll let y’all know when she’s got it up ready for voting. Also, if you want to participate (c’mon, it’s good link whoring!), leave a comment here or email me and I’ll submit your name to her. You have to have a picture somewhere online that we can all drool over though! This is for the guys only–or should I say, for the girls to leer at. There’s enough chick pics all over the blogosphere already; we girls need some eye candy once in a while! Don’t be a chickenshi’ite either, think of it as a marketing tool tactic.
I know there was some other stuff I was going to write about, but in the madness of Computer Hell, I had a brain dump. I suppose I could rant some more about my computer problems, but I’ll spare you the agony.
UPDATE: I have about five million email messages to get to and another five million places where I have to update my email address. Be patient.
