So here we are. Sanjaya-less. Whatever will we talk about.
So I’m starting 20 minutes late. I’m such a slacker, but THANK GAWD FOR DVR!
I’ll catch up with ya’ll….I promise. And I bet I’ll be talking amongst myself. Heh.
7:00 CDT
That’s right. This is “Idol Gives Back” night. Watch and vote as usual, but 10 cents will be donated to charity for the first 50 million votes. Alright. That’s pretty cool.
What the hell is up with Randy’s shirt? And why do we need to see Simon’s belly button? Can we PLEASE get the fashion police on the floor? MY EYES!
These children in Africa really could use some support - I’m happy to see they are helping kids through “Idol Gives Back!”
7:06 CDT
First up…Justin Timberburns. Not a bad song for him. Damn it. I want him outta here. It does sound like he’s using that “nasal singing” technique he spatted with Simon on. Randy and Paula love him. GREAT…Simon is giving him props. He said he had a SEXY performance. EWWWWWW. That thought needs to be erased.right.now.
7:14 CDT
They are also giving back to America. Louisiana, rural Kentucky, a Reservation in Arizona, Atlanta…and other charitable organizations across the country. I think it’s awesome they are focusing on needs in the U.S. too. So often, they are forgotten.
Melinda’s next….I love Sgt. Hooks….er….Melinda!!!!! She’s got a set of pipes!!!!!! She’s giving me goose bumps!!!!!!!!! Paula says she’s magical. Simon “that really was a vocal masterpiece!!!”
Ha….”Simon, where’s your button?” I’m NOT alone!
7:24 CDT
Have I ever mentioned how much I love DVR? NO CRAPPY COMMERCIALS!!! YAY!!!
Blake’s up next….Mr. Beatbox Boy. John Lennon’s “Imagine.” I LOVE Blake, but not too much of a John Lennon fan.
::: listening::: Okay…what do the judges think….good choice of song, Randy says, but didn’t do much for him. Paula wants him. It’s clear to me now. Simon said it sounded sincere… “good.” Not a glowing report, but not much you can do with that song, really.
7:33 CDT
Lakisha…work it girl! Oooh….a good song for her…the goosebumps are back! Judges? They think she picked too big of a song (Fantasia’s “too big” of a persona)? Simon thought she was shouting? Eh….I disagree with Randy….it was one of her better performances. To quote Simon….SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!
7:44 CDT
GO NAVY!!!! PHIL!!!!!!!!!!! A Garth Brooks song…they said he should do country….Wow….it was a song to honor the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing. Wow…Randy loved it. Paula said “this was your best!” Simon…good choice of song…people like you…you could do well. Woot!!! I just wish he would grow hair. Really.
7:52 CDT
VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! Raise money for Africa and America!
Jordin….OMG….that was AWESOME!!!! Randy says one of the best vocals EVAH! Paula…did a lovely job, you are glorious! Simon…FANTASTIC….you’d have a hit record with that!!
I say she had a slight edge, but the women have it tonight, no matter what! WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
What do you say….who will be going home tomorrow? I’m sure no one here has an opinion, huh?!?!?
So my dear buddy Beth meme’d me with a Christmas Meme! Since I’m easily influenced (by the right people…oh, and the right drink..ha!) I’ve decided to comply with Beth’s wishes and put this up on her place (thanks for the idea Vinnie, my love!). Yay….put it up at Beth’s is kinda like cheating, but I’ll blame Vinnie. Beth has no choice but to understand. Heh.
Anyway…..I’m supposed to tell you three things I’d like to have for Christmas and three things I *wouldn’t* like to have for Christmas. Here we go!
Things I would LOVE to get for Christmas:
1. Health for my family and friends, obviously my hubby and children, but for my father and mother-in-law in particular. And a bit of health for me, too. What I would love to have is a new, unstoppable urge and addiction to exercise so I can get my body into shape.
2. A new bathroom. The floor needs replacing (as do a few other things in the bathroom). I’m afraid I’ll be doing my thing and the floor will crumble around me and I’ll be stuck on the throne. THAT is a frightening thought. Heh!
3. A maid service. Beth must know what our house looks like, too. Just someone to do all the major stuff for me would be fine. :-)
(Material things? A plasma TV, a big diamond from my man, and our second mortgage paid off…!)
Scratch these off the ole Christmas List:
1. Fruitcake and ambrosia (blech!).
2. Another ailment that will require any more tests or medications.
3. A Democrat as our next president.
(Material things…I’m with Beth here, again. It’s hard to shop for me because I have most everything I could possibly want. I would say, though, please don’t buy me perfume or makeup…there are only certain things I can wear or I’ll end up be a pimply, smelly, hive-infested freak…tee hee!)
Beth…I ain’t picking on anyone since we’re approaching Christmas Eve (and Vinnie taught me to cheat by putting this up at your place…ain’t he smart?). But maybe if someone comes up with a New Year’s meme I’ll be a good girl (um, yeah….right!).
Merry Christmas everyone! :-)
***BEWARE…FOUL LANGUAGE IS LIKELY COMING***
I preface this post with that warning for good reason. The debacle also known as the retrial of Andrea Yates has just culimated into yet another ridiculous verdict. Where as in the first trial she was found guilty of murdering her innocent children by systematically chasing them down and drowning them one by one, she was retried and this time found “Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity.” It’s BULLCRAP. ABSOLUTE BULLCRAP. I hope the jury can live with their decision because it’s possible this damned waste of a human being could be released from inpatient mental health care when she’s “cured” or “treated” or “ready.” Ain’t that nice?
The 42-year-old will be committed to a state mental hospital, with periodic hearings before a judge to determine whether she should be released.
If convicted of murder, she would have faced life in prison.
Defense attorneys never disputed that Yates killed her five children — 6-month-old Mary, 2-year-old Luke, 3-year-old Paul, 5-year-old John and 7-year-old Noah — by drowning them in a bathtub of their suburban Houston home in June 2001. They based their case, however, on a claim that she suffered from severe postpartum psychosis and, in a delusional state, believed Satan was inside her and was trying to save them from hell.
Of course they never disputed it, because she’s completely GUILTY of murdering her five children. Can you imagine looking into the face of your child and making the decision to end their life…watching them struggle as you drown them heartlessly in the bathtub before you hunt down your next victim? Didn’t think so. But SHE DID. Sitting in a mental hospital breathing, reading, watching TV, sleeping, eating, living life with a hope to be free some day is NOT the right punishment for this monster. She honestly deserves no less than the death penalty. So she’s mentally ill. SO WHAT! There is nothing mentally “right” with any killer. You cannot tell me that Ted Bundy was sane. You cannot tell me that the BTK killer was sane. Or Jeffrey Dahmer. Or any killer. There is something broken inside of each and every one of them. NONE of them, including Andrea Yates should be given ANY opportunity to enter society again. EVER. To call this verdict “NOT” guilty is such bullshi’ite. It’s like grading a student’s paper in purple so they feel better about themselves. At the very least call it GUILTY by reason of insanity if you have to call it anything at all. For me it’s simple and will save the trees and save ink when you just print GUILTY on the record.
Speaking of bullshi’ite, Rusty Yates is as vile as his ex-wife is. He thinks this verdict was a “victory.” A few RustyYate-isms:
1. referred to his former wife as a “loving mother who just fell to this disease”
2. said the prosecution “just believed they had enough of the truth to proceed, they never made an effort to get the whole truth.”
3. “It really disappointed me that the state spent … probably a million-and-a-half dollars to get to really, what to me, was obvious from the beginning,” he added, referring to her former wife as “psychotic.”
4. said that in a mental institution she can have a “better quality of life for herself.”
5. said he and and his former wife often reminisce about their children. “Not very many people knew our children … they were our lives, they were important to us,” he said.
Where to begin?
1. How do you call a mother who maliciously murders her five children “loving?”
2. Yeah, and the truth was that Andrea Yates methodically murdered her five children violently.
3. If she would have plead guilty - which she was - that kind of money could have stayed with the state.
4. F–k her quality of life. Who gives a shi’ite about her quality of life? She obviously didn’t care about the lives of five innocent kids - her own at that.
5. Yeah, until she snuffed life from them. How about their lives, Rusty? Kind of hard for the joys of her life to have a good quality of life when they are buried in a wooden boxes six feet under the grass and flowers they should be enjoying every summer.
I think there’s something broken inside of Rusty Yates as well. I don’t think I’m alone in that thought.
…and *this* quote:
Resnick told jurors that Yates was in a delusional state and believed 6-month-old Mary, 2-year-old Luke, 3-year-old Paul, 5-year-old John and 7-year-old Noah would grow up to be criminals because she had ruined them.
So there it is. It’s all about her. Killing her kids to hide her “mistakes.” Pleading not guilty by reason of insanity because she was the *victim* in all of this. Folks, every day more and more people are pulling the victim card. This paves the way for yet another victim to say they murdered their kids because of this or that versus just taking the accountability and responsibility to say “yep…I did it. I killed ‘em. I don’t know what got over me, but I know murder brings the death penalty. I guess I got to step up and take my punishment.” This victim mentality is bringing society down a notch for sure.
It pisses me off that this case had to be retried because of erroneous testimony. I sure hope Dr. Park Dietz pauses and learns from this. I wonder what goes through his head when he thinks about what his erroneous testimony has caused.
What hope is there with this case? Well, they only convicted her for three of the murders. Perhaps she’ll get the justice that would best represent these vile crimes for the other two lives lost.

Please be looking out for this beautiful little three-year-old girl. She’s been missing since May under suspicious circumstances.

UPDATE: Additional information (thanks, Linda!): The suspect that they believe had abduced Reachelle was found dead - an apparent suicide via carbon monoxide poisoning. Here’s another somewhat recent article discussing the search efforts for Reachelle and more about the case.
True story….
I needed some stamps, so I went to the post office this morning.
As, we were waiting in line, my daughter points to the collections they have on display. Her first exclaimation was "Mommy, look at Mickey Mouse - there’s candles here!" (there was a display that had Mickey Mouse candles and some stamps with it).
At the next display… "Mommy, look at that guy on the stamps!" I told her "that guy" was Ronald Reagan. Right behind me was a couple, and the guy said to the girl something along the lines of "I don’t know why anyone would even waste the paper to put Ronald Reagan’s picture on it. He was one of the worst presidents we’ve ever had."
Me, being the ever-polite person - and for fear of police action - chose not to turn around and deck him. Instead, when it was my turn to buy stamps - and in a very loud voice - I asked the clerk "Do you have any of those Ronald Reagan stamps in stock? I’d like to buy some!"
I could feel the redness in his face across the room!

So Hillary Clinton has decided to relegate President Bush to a comic-book character, huh?
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Republicans took aim at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday for a speech comparing President Bush to Mad magazine’s freckle-faced, "What, me worry?" kid, Alfred E. Neuman.
I’m not surprised. It isn’t the first time she’s tossed out crass or rude comments about Republicans. Seems as Hillary’s only way to deal with those who are far superior to her is to pull open her "Mad Magazine" collection and come up with those one-liners. The NY GOP was quoted saying:
"At a time when President Bush and most elected officials are focused on the security of our nation, Mrs. Clinton seems focused on taking partisan jabs and promoting her presidential campaign," added New York’s GOP chairman, Stephen Minarik. "Her priorities are clearly out of whack."
I’m disappointed, however, that the AP didn’t include this very telling photo of one of our younger Republicans taking issue with Ms. Clinton’s statement:

I’m a patriotic American. I get choked up when I hear the national anthem. The American flag is a symbol that represents our country and all we stand for - the red, white and blue. The Stars and Stripes. Whenever our country faces adversity or hardship, i.e. 9/11, what symbolizes our strength as a nation, our unwavering belief that we will prevail? Our flag. Old Glory.
The ACLU called the House’s approval of the "Flag Desecration Amendment" a "loss for freedom and an unwarranted assault on the First Amendment." I find it fascinating that the ACLU declares that there is growing, nationwide opposition to this Amendment. I haven’t talked to a soul that says "yeah, let’s burn the flag…it’s our right! We don’t like abortion, let’s burn the flag. We’re mad that they ended Everybody Loves Raymond - let’s burn the flag!"
Terri Ann Schroeder, Senior Lobbyist with the ACLU Washington Legislative Office (aka Head Blah blah) said:
"Today’s vote was a victory not for the flag, but for lawmakers seeking cheap political points. The flag is a symbol, and today’s vote is an assault on the freedoms that it embodies. In a democracy, freedom means that we must tolerate all peaceful forms of expression, no matter how uncomfortable they make us feel, or how much we disagree. Lawmakers cannot silence individuals just because they don’t agree with their message or how it is expressed."
Perhaps you may think I’m a bit too patriotic, but I find the burning of the flag far from "peaceful" and for me it borders close to violent. To me, a "peaceful form of expression" would be signs, speeches, or human chains. When I think of flag burning, I think of militant Islamofascist freaks who would not only like to burn said flag, but a few million Americans as well.
Do I believe in freedom of speech? Absolutely. But I don’t believe in desecration of the flag - something that represents our country, our honor and the blood, sweat and tears shed by countless Americans defending the very right to fly such a beautiful flag.
I am the Flag
by Ruth Appeasing Rois
I am the flag of the United States of America.
I was born on June 14, 1777, in Philadelphia.
There the Continental Congress adopted my stars and stripes as the national flag.
My thirteen stripes alternating red and white, with a union of thirteen white stars in a field of blue, represented a new constellation, a new nation dedicated to the personal and religious liberty of mankind.
Today fifty stars signal from my union, one for each of the fifty sovereign states in the greatest constitutional republic the world has ever known.
My colors symbolize the patriotic ideals and spiritual qualities of the citizens of my country.
My red stripes proclaim the fearless courage and integrity of American men and boys and the self-sacrifice and devotion of American mothers and daughters.
My white stripes stand for liberty and equality for all.
My blue is the blue of heaven, loyalty, and faith.
I represent these eternal principles: liberty, justice, and humanity.
I embody American freedom: freedom of speech, religion, assembly, the press, and the sanctity of the home.
I typify that indomitable spirit of determination brought to my land by Christopher Columbus and by all my forefathers - the Pilgrims, Puritans, settlers at James town and Plymouth.
I am as old as my nation.
I am a living symbol of my nation’s law: the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.
I voice Abraham Lincoln’s philosophy: "A government of the people, by the people, for the people."
I stand guard over my nation’s schools, the seedbed of good citizenship and true patriotism.
I am displayed in every schoolroom throughout my nation; every schoolyard has a flag pole for my display.
Daily thousands upon thousands of boys and girls pledge their allegiance to me and my country.
I have my own law—Public Law 829, "The Flag Code" - which definitely states my correct use and display for all occasions and situations.
I have my special day, Flag Day. June 14 is set aside to honor my birth.
Americans, I am the sacred emblem of your country. I symbolize your birthright, your heritage of liberty purchased with blood and sorrow.
I am your title deed of freedom, which is yours to enjoy and hold in trust for posterity.
If you fail to keep this sacred trust inviolate, if I am nullified and destroyed, you and your children will become slaves to dictators and despots.
Eternal vigilance is your price of freedom.
As you see me silhouetted against the peaceful skies of my country, remind yourself that I am the flag of your country, that I stand for what you are - no more, no less.
Guard me well, lest your freedom perish from the earth.
Dedicate your lives to those principles for which I stand: "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
I was created in freedom. I made my first appearance in a battle for human liberty.
God grant that I may spend eternity in my "land of the free and the home of the brave" and that I shall ever be known as "Old Glory," the flag of the United States of America.

Why does this vile, evil shi’ite stain get the time of day? I could care less about his whining rants about his attorneys and the fact that his wife is contemplating divorce. HE’S A FRIGGIN murderer. I’d get a divorce, too! And the MSM just sucks it up for their next “hot story.” What a waste of bandwidth.

These are the types of stories that the mainstream media feels compelled to print because…[please insert reason here]?
WASHINGTON — A new study shows Team Bush has fewer minorities and young people, and more government insiders, in the president’s second term than in his first.
A study by the news weekly National Journal shows that 17 percent of those in the top 367 managerial jobs are minorities. That’s down from 20 percent four years ago.
A roughly comparable tally of the Clinton administration put the figure at 27 percent.
Plus the average age in Bush’s second-term administration is 51, compared with 48 in the first.
Also, an administration that was experienced four years ago is even more so now. The National Journal found 88 percent of those in the top jobs had previous executive branch posts. That compares with 59 percent in the first term.
I believe that reports such as these are an attempt to undermine the credibility of the presidency. What about a report on how the president brought in “the best person for the job” versus the breakdown in age, race, sexual orientation, etc.? The title of this article almost makes it seem like “more experience” is a bad thing. This handy little story “confirms” the ideas in the minds of liberal whackos that Bush is bad - now the mantra will be “Bush discriminates” or “Bush isn’t as mindful of diversity as Clinton was.”
I guess I should be used to this banter, but it still drives me crazy. I just want a person in place to do a particular job who is the best. Say I needed to hire a body guard. Would I just select someone because they were a minority? No - how fair or appropriate is that? I would check everyone’s experience, interview them to get a feel for how they would perform on the job and make a decision regarding who I would hire based upon a consistent list of criteria.
If I was a partner in a physician office whose specialty was surgery, should I hire the young physician right out of school and training, or should I hire the experienced surgeon with a proven track record of success? As a wise business person, I should hire the surgeon with more experience. Wouldn’t you want that as a patient?

From the ACLU’s website:
BOISE, ID – The American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood Federation of America argued in court today that Idaho’s third attempt at enforcing a dangerous measure restricting teenagers’ access to abortion should be enjoined.
“The safety of Idaho’s most vulnerable teens should be our first concern,” said Rebecca Poedy, President of Planned Parenthood of Idaho. “Putting politics before health care, the state persists in its efforts to enforce a law that would harm teenagers, especially those in need of emergency abortions.”
How about putting life before death? How about allowing parents to be responsible for their children versus enabling children to go behind their backs for medical procedures? More from the ACLU’s website:
The law in question prevents teens under 18 from having an abortion unless they receive the written consent of a parent or a court waiver of that requirement. Although slightly modified from two earlier versions already struck down by the courts, the law at issue in today’s case suffers from two flaws previously declared unconstitutional: It compromises the confidentiality of teens who need emergency abortions, and of teens seeking waiver of the parental consent requirement.
I’m sorry, but as a parent, I am responsible for my child’s welfare until they are an adult - age 18. If my child had a problem with their appendix, a physician and the hospital would require my consent for surgery. While significant moral issues exist around abortion, let’s take them out of the equation for a moment. Abortion is a medical procedure. Why should a parent not be allowed to give consent and be informed? If a parent isn’t allowed to know that their daughter went and got an abortion, how will they know to make sure she is okay? How will they be able to respond effectively if something goes wrong medically?
Okay, now I have to put the moral issues back into the equation. I should be able to help my child work through life-altering events such as pregnancy - it is my obligation and responsibility as a parent to teach my children right from wrong, to share my beliefs and other life lessons and to help them weigh all sides when making decisions that will impact them the rest of their lives. If I am not given an opportunity to know about a pregnancy, and my daughter elected to have an abortion, how can I possibly support her emotional needs and speak to the guilt that typically accompanies the decision to kill an unborn child? Why am I, the parent of this minor, the excluded party here? Should my daughter make the mistake of getting into the situation of an unplanned pregnancy, my involvement is invaluable - I have raised her and should know how to reach her and help her come to a decision on what to do next.
There’s more to “solving” an unplanned pregnancy than medical equipment. I truly do not believe A-C-L-U spells Mom or Dad…or God, for that matter.
