Sanford Should Resign

Mark Sanford purports to be a conservative. Well, last I checked, family values are an important aspect of conservatism. Sanford has admitted to an affair, and while the decision on whether or not he stays married is the domain of his family, his state and his party deserve far better than a hypocrite. Sanford should resign as governor of South Carolina immediately, and if not the party should expel him from its ranks and mount a primary challenger for the next election.

Sean: His longevity in office isn’t the point. Accountability for his actions and the reputation and good standing of our party are. Do we hold ourselves to a higher standard than we hold the Democrats or not? We impeached Clinton and demanded the heads of Spitzer and McGreevey. Granted, both had legal and ethical breaches to consider, but so what? Are our expectations and standards for our own so low that we shrug and say “Well, he’s only got another year in office and at least he didn’t pay for it.” I, for one, am tired of this response when the offenders are among our own.

But I’ll tell you what, you admit to me that Democrats are the party of hookers and adultery and we can call your double standard on this salient. Otherwise it’s a tu quoque falacy.

No, my answer is before you go rooting around in the gutter to dig up old dead shit I can go blow for blow with you on that one. Sanford’s is current, Vitter’s is two years old. You don’t like him, don’t vote for him, don’t expect me to go beat dead horses to make you happy.

Leaving for a roll in the hay with mistress over Father’s Day - judgment now at slimeball level. Give me the stone, I’ll throw it.
The governor goes off the radar and is uncontactable, leaving the state without its Executive and without turning power over to the Lt. Governor - its time to resign with whatever grace he can muster.
The governor gets caught and makes a tearful mea culpa - cry me a river. Actions have consequences, and while I may feel some remorse for the governor, saying “sorry” does not begin to fix the problem of a governor whose lack of judgment in his personal life held out the potential for serious damage to his state.
Making the trip on the public’s dime - you’re out of there, Bozo. And if the state wants to file criminal charges over misuse of funds, they are completely warranted.

Boy, do I feel dirty for agreeing with Glen… Yeah, he needs to resign. Not necessarily for the affair, which I think he should for that too but he won’t. No, he first disappears on his entire staff and everyone in the state for 5 days. Totally unavailable and unreachable. Then he’s found to have visited his girlfriend in Argentina. He got there by flying on the taxpayer dime. Footing the bill for little dinners here and there is one thing, having the taxpayer pay for your flights to other countries so you can get an exotic hookup, that’s another. That’s a complete misuse of dollars, something he’s run against. The girlfriend, well, don’t like it, but that seems to be the norm now. The use of taxpayers money to fund it? That’s criminal and should be the end of his tenure. This isn’t the first time he’s gone to Argentina to see her. The papers have some pretty big details (if only they checked Obama that well) and he’s used “business trips” to get there before.
Think about it this way, had he not checked in and found everyone freaking out about his not being available, he would STILL be in Argentina. He had scheduled a 10 day trip. He was not coming back until Sunday.

One thing that Sanford has going for him is he is aChristian. Not true with Barny Frank. Is their a comparrison than? I dont thin so!!! The Lord will help The Governer, Franks will burn in hell!!!!

On the other hand, I seem to recall something in the Bible about the Jews being God’s chosen people. I somehow find it hard to believe the good lord would sustain them in the desert for 40 years and then lead them to the promised land if the only intention afterward were to cast them into hell.
