More on that health thingy

The stated goal of this database is to have everyone’s records in the base by 2014. It’s right there in the bill on page 238. It reads:
“IN GENERAL.—The national Coordinator shall, in consultation with other appropriate Federal agencies (including the National Institute of Standards and Technology), update the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan (developed as of June 3, 2008) to include specific objectives, milestones, and metrics with respect to the following: (i) The electronic exchange and use of health information and the enterprise integration of such information. (ii) The utilization of an electronic health record for each person in the United States by 2014.”
So there it is in black and white. But don’t believe your lying eyes say Reid and Pelosi. All those pesky blogs are wrong. See it’s right there on page 269: “(d) RULE OF CONSTRUCTION.—Nothing in this section shall be construed to require that a private or government entity adopt or use the technology provided under this section.”
See? Nothing to worry about at all! The package says individuals are not required to get services from people who do electronic health records. But doesn’t that run counter to what the stated goal of everyone in by 2014? Why, you would think it does. But don’t worry yourself. You don’t have to send your information in. Nope. They won’t make you do it. They are going to make your doctor do it. The bill requires the doctors to. Doctors who don’t will receive less and less money for the patients they see.
It’s right there on page 680: “with respect to covered professional services furnished by an eligible professional during 2015 or any subsequent payment year, if the eligible professional is not a meaningful EHR user (as determined under subsection (o)(2)) for a reporting period for the year, the fee schedule amount for such services furnished by such professional during the year (including the fee schedule amount for purposes of determining a payment based on such amount) shall be equal to the applicable percent of the fee schedule amount that would otherwise apply to such services under this subsection…”
In other words if your doctor refuses to send your info in, he gets less money from the medicare and medicaid. And since we’re adding more and more people to the government coverage, he or she will eventually have no choice. Meaning your info is going in, like it or not. But remember, they didn’t say that they wouldn’t get your information, they just said that YOUR giving it was voluntary. See, they didn’t lie at all.

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one sounding the alarm on this issue. Orwell was right - but he probably didn’t see the liberals being the one that would strip our privacy rights away.
