When I moved to Alabama I was warned that people took their college football very seriously. I don’t know how many times I’ve been asked “are you for Alabama, or Auburn?”. The interesting thing is, among the most ardent (almost militant) fans, neither they or any of their family members attended either college, or any other for that matter. When I asked why they were fans of one team or the other, the answer generally was they followed their fathers (or father figures) favorite team. They would fist fight each other, become estranged from family members, and form snap decisions about people based on their choice of college football teams.
Clearly,for some of us, politics are the same. I understand why people voted for Uncle Ted Stevens, and apparently he did cross the line. But what Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (D) did was a horrific abuse of public trust, and naked corruption. He deserves General Population in a state prison for a decade.

Okay, on the serious note, that commentator was reading more into the Blago arrest than was necessary: after all, Bank of America capitulated to the sit-in and made concessions, so I don’t see how they would have manipulated an already-existing criminal investigation that was apparently 3 years (!) in the running… with a significant step-up in wiretapping activity around October.
Blagojevich’s arrest happened when it did most likely because Fitz got enough evidence finally to make the case: Occam’s razor rightfully applied. If you want a conspiracy theory about why the arrests happened now, here’s a good one: because Santa passed his list on to Fitz and said “Dude this is one STOOOPID governor. Please take him out and that Wii is yours!”
