VP Debate

Usually the VP debate is nothing. It’s a sideshow. This year, it’s crucial for Sarah Palin to deliver a good performance. No more hockey mom. No more championship snowmachine rider. No more moose hunter. It’s all business and taking on Obama. Ignore Biden. He’s a clown. Obama needs to be hit and hit hard.

Go Sarahnator!

I have news for you, it still is a sideshow. I know the far right is excited because Sarah Palin is there, but absent her shooting (literally) Joe Biden. the it doesn’t matter. I do however anticipate that viewership will be high, as these candidates are not as worn out as Obama/McCain.

Joe Biden clearly won the debate. But that’s to be expected from a guy who’s spent 30 years in the Senate, who knows it inside and out, against a much younger opponent who’s got 4 years or less as a mayor and governor. Win or lose, though, Sarah Palin has a great future ahead of her. She’s very young & in 8 years, she will still be. With additional experience succeeding Senator Ted Stevens, could be a strong voice for Alaska and the American Heartland.

If there’s one thing that I found very appealing about Palin is her likability. She has a lot of charisma. Full of positive energy. She came across as a very warm and sincere person. Despite her missteps and lack of experience, she certainly doesn’t lack charm. Or a sense of humanity and compassion–a key ingredient which I feel has been missing in many Republican presidential candidates I’ve seen through the years. If anything, Palin can be a positive and humanizing force for the GOP. Her talk about Motherhood and traditional family values had a nice touch. It really struck a chord, if a person’s on her side or not.

So whether or not she won the debate, Palin won in the sense that she conveyed a very hopeful, invigorating image for the Republican Party. One which would appeal to the grassroots. Something it badly needs, because a political party isn’t just made up of political machinery. It’s got to have love and a bit of heart as well. Or else it doesn’t have a soul.

I got locked out of the live thing last night, I’ll have to sign in earlier next week.
I’m not going to go into depth here as to why last night was a waste of an excellent opportunity for Palin/McCain, I’ve vented enough over at my place, but I’m tired of coming away from these things feeling betrayed and empty. Last night was a fluff piece. Obama in the White House isn’t going to be about fluff. McCain and Palin have four weeks to take him down. Sorry, but that’s just not going to happen. We’re cooked.

All right, I will tell you my main problem with Sarah Palin. I am not the most intelligent person in the world, but I am more than a newshound. When I finish college, I want to work in politics/government and I spend hours upon hours learning for that reason. My problem with Sarah Palin, is that while not qualified on paper, I AM more qualified intellectually the be VP than she is. I honestly;y no more about foreign and domestic policy than she does. That is not good. I don’t care about style points, she is completely unfit to be President/VP, and I would be embarrassed to vote for her as a Senator. You do. however make one good point, she does convey a genuine sense of kindness.

Sara Palin clearly won the debate in my view. Everyone seems to be hung up on qualifications but I have yet to hear what those qualifications should be. Here is what I took away from the debate. On the left hand we heard about failure, hard times, and big oil making too much money, and many misrepresentations. On the right we heard about success, the good of America, it’s OK to aspire to wealth, and correcting the record. Which of these do you prefer?

the GOP wouldn’t dare schedule any more unscripted air time for Palin, this would give people more time to realize that she’s totally clueless… the prospect of her becoming the Commander in Chief is frightening
