Meh

Ok, that was so-so. I think McCain won. Obama won the first question, the next couple were a draw then the rest went to McCain. I don’t think this will do anything to the polls. Obama is pulling away and will continue to do so.
One thing I think McCain did well in separating him from Bush. He did ok, but he could have knocked Obama out simply by asking him why you would reward a corrupt CEO by making him a top dog in your campaign. That would have been a knock out.
Thought Lehrer did ok.
What did you think? Leave it in comments.

you want meh? Try watching the Rays backslide their way into a division title with a loss to the Tigers. I can’t believe I’m forced to root for the Yankees right now… :/
Talmadge East says:
I would largely agree with you. Probably a draw, but if a winner HAD to be picked, I would go with McCain. He succeeded in keeping Obama on the defensive a little bit. McCain was ok in separating himself from Bush, but he wasn’t give a hard enough time by Obama about his connections with Bush, so it was relatively easy. The CEO thing wouldn’t have made a difference, they both have those ties on multiple fronts.

Obama showed a rude childish side, maybe not quite the sighs of Al Gore in 2000 but the interruptions, the term “John” rather than Senator and then add to that the “I have a bracelet to and the name is uh-uh-uh” - I would play that over and over.
Mike says:
Regrettably, it’s too bad the Republican Party didn’t give John McCain a chance he deserved back in 2000. America would still be in decent shape if he’d been the president back then. He demonstrated in the debate that he’s competent and he could do a good job. He puts my at ease as a conservative moderate to the same degree that Bush always frightened me rabid extremist. But I think McCain should have chosen Tom Ridge as his running mate, which I think would have been a better choice than Sarah Palin. They might have picked up Michigan, but this doesn’t likely now. A Ridge candidacy would have forced the Democrats to fight a battle on their own blue state turf. Sarah Palin has the potential to be good one day, but her time isn’t now. Like a rookie professional sport prospect, I think the GOP put her in the spotlight too soon. She’s a natural successor to Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. A couple of terms in the Senate would do her good, where she could eventually turn out to be a credible presidential candidate in the future.
Talmadge East says:
Obama was no more rude than McCain was. I could count on one hand the number of times McCain acknowledged Obama’s existence.
Mike says:
While he should have called him ‘Mr. McCain’, Obama probably called him ‘John’, because they’re so familiar with each other. The Senate seems like some exclusive country club where the same people sit on various committees and sub-committees. So, if you’ve only got a hundred Senators, I’m sure each will get to know one another pretty quick. That’s a pretty small association, I should think. Adversaries, but at the same time colleagues, not unlike Doctors, Architects or Lawyers. AMA, AIA or ABA.
sierrahome says:
“Obama was no more rude than McCain was”.
Yes he was, you are dead wrong.
Trish says:
John–
That would have been true if they had called each other by their first names. That is not the case.
Obama was rude, and deliberately rude.
Talmadge East says:
Whatever, the general public, apparently, disagrees with you sierrahome.
sierrahome says:
The Socialist “general public”, the MSM general public but I watched the whole thing and he was rude.
Dody says:
I hate to agree, but I agree. I can feel it. I think Sarah Palin spoofed on SNL is like hearing the nails in the coffin. It is grim and I bet McCain knows it. The stupid suspend the campaign thing was a total mistake. McCain was strong during the debate, but Obama people are transfixed and the pull is so alluring. It is just so easy to be for Obama - makes you part of the in crowd. The entire nation is in high school…
