interesting sites and locations

Here is a site that is doing a picture based height and weight chart. It’s taking pictures from ordinary people and putting that picture with their height and weight. It’s interesting to see the different body shapes that can make up a height/weight size.

Kender at Kender’s Musings has the new BJ (Barack/Joe) bumperstickers. I need one of each please (hat tip Raven at “and rightly so”).

A John Edwards lawyer story in the making. This guy is the driver of a fatal hit and run. After his trial, he turns around and sues the city for not taking care of his car. (H/T Drudge)

Ok, I now know who I want for McCain’s VP: Sarah Palin. Look at these pictures I merged. Can you see either Biden or Obama or even McCain with a biker gang or a motor cycle or a real fish? McCain maybe, but the others? Heck no. Oh, she also flies airplanes and was on the cover of Vogue. The republican party is in desperate need of fresh faces. She can lead the way.

I don’t know the plot. I don’t know who is writing it. But Pixar is coming out with Toy Story 3 and you just know that has mega-blockbuster written all over it. Tim Allen and Tom Hanks and the rest of the gang are back. It’s got 400 million plus just in it’s name. I can’t wait.

Chris, just to say about pushing for Palin as a possible Veep for McCain: she has almost no national recognition compared to other possibles, no foreign policy creds, and no guarantee she won’t secure any swing states. McCain’s gotta be thinking about a candidate who will 1) secure Florida and a handful of other key swing states, 2) maintain McCain’s platform of solid foreign policy experience, and 3) someone who will muddy the waters against the Dems on domestic issues such as jobs, home finances, and alternative domestic energy solutions.

This means McCain is obviously going with Dwight Eisenhower. (pause) Wait a second… who set teh clock for 1952? Sigh… Hold on, lemme review the 2008 list…

I’ve been a proponant of Palin for VP for quite some time now (it won’t be, but I can hope).

My answers to all that Paul:
    1. No VP pick at this juncture can nail down all those swing states. Most are only targets for one or two states at most, easily allowing Obama to abandon the area and move on to more vulnerable ground. Palin at least has going for her that it’s a gesture to jilted Hillary supporters and women. Never underestimate girl power.

    2. Why should McCain’s VP choice need foreign policy experience? McCain already brings that to the ticket. McCain’s choice needs to shore him up either where he’s weak or capitalize further on Obama’s vulnerabilities. Foreign policy vulnerability has been played out, McCain already beats Obama on that almost 2 to 1. That well’s dry, not going to get any more out of it.

    3. Obama doesn’t hold much in the way of major ground on any of the domestic policy issues you outlined. Obama is within normal Democratic parameters on jobs (Democrats have held the advantage on that for some time actually), home finances is an issue most voters don’t understand enough to base their vote on, and most energy voters want more drilling, which McCain is for and has a big advantage over Obama on. Palin neutralizes the two biggies Obama has going for him, change and historic first.

Barring any major skeletons in the closet, Palin does far less harm than Romney. She didn’t bash McCain during the debates (you know the Dems are itching for payback after the Biden debate ad), she doesn’t have the mormon-evangelical pitfall, and she doesn’t remind you of the CEO of a corporation that just fired you (and need I remind everyone, Romney ran a hedge fund, wait till the bloggers dig and find out about outsourced jobs in his background, or downsizing, and Romney’s appeal to Michigan, Ohio, or PA goes right out the window).

Pawlenty does no harm, but he does no good outside Minnesota. It’s dubious how much good he even does inside Minnesota. He won his last race for governor by less than a percentage, the one before had been by 8%. In neither contest did he capture 50% or more of the total vote. Palin’s chief attribute is that she is a woman. That’s a fungible asset, it’s as good in Minnesota as it is in Virginia. Governor of Minnesota is meaningless in Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Hampshire, Iowa, insert battleground state here.

I’m convinced, though, that it isn’t going to happen. No matter how good a choice it is, the party never fails to let me down when it comes to doing what is in its best interest. So, I’m certain a plastic Johnny come lately to conservatism like Romney, or a no name outside his own state like Pawlenty will get that call from McCain’s camp. Still, a fellow can hold out hope.
