Nancy E. Pelosi: Suuuuuuper genius
That’s not sarcasm. She kicked the crud out of us again. I really wish the republicans would play like this sometimes. So here’s what she did this time.
Again, she pulls out the “emergency legislation”. This one was called “The Gas Price Relief Bill”. You can already see where this is going can’t you? What does the “Gas Price Relief Bill” do? NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING. It pulls 70 million barrels of the strategic oil reserves. Big floopdy doo. Before they bring it to the house, they put out a press release saying it was so good, no one would dare vote against it. Of course, Bush says it’s worthless and he’ll veto it. So Bush “Vows to veto gas relief bill” blare the headlines. Again, with the emergency provisions, no amendments may be added to the bill without a 2/3 majority. The republicans have the votes to add drilling if it was a simple majority, but they don’t have them for 2/3. So no amendments. Also, it needs 2/3 to pass. The republicans don’t supply enough votes and it fails. So, what do we see across the news wires?
Republicans kill gas price relief bill
Next we have the wonderful work of Pete Hokstra. Pete submits a bill to Pelosi that seeks to address the national security implications of high energy prices. Sounds reasonable. Pelosi kills it. Gone. See ya! THE VERY NEXT DAY, the democrats introduce house bill #HR6545. What do you thing HR6545 does? Why, of course, it seeks to address the national security implications of high energy prices. No f’ing way. Bet Pete wishes he had thought of that. But alas, guess who gets credit for it.
She kicked our butts twice in a week. Seriously, we need to learn to play hardball like this. Politics isn’t a gentleman’s sport. It’s a blood sport and it’s time we treated it like this. It’s a pitiful shame that when we had the majority we didn’t play tough, instead we wimped our majority away.
It’s not too late, but we better get our act together or it will be President Obama and a filibuster proof majority and then we’ll be screwed.

Are the Republicans Screwing Up? | D.C. Thornton says:
[...] YES. THEY. ARE. [...]
William Teach says:
The problem is that every time the GOP tries to play hardball, the media and Democrats complain about how mean the GOP is, then the GOP backs off.
Also, some on the right start complaining about how uncivilized the GOP has become, even after calling on the GOP to act tough and get down in the mud.
But, you are right, the GOP needs to start playing rough.
The BoBo says:
And..then she goes on national TV and makes a mockery of the Republicans. She point blank says on John Stewart’s show “I can’t let him get away with that” in regards to Bush and requesting Congress open up drilling.
She then goes on the Today show and tells them on there she refuses to bring it to debate because “I’m saving the planet.”
How much more blatant can you get? She’s making a mockery of our constitution, Congress, the Presidency, and the Republicans.
I can only shake my head in disgust.
raz0r says:
The Republicans aren’t screwing up totally. They just need to keep all R’s in camp until September 30th. That’s the date when the ban on drilling expires.

Looks like the Republican side of the stand-off is being headed up by DeMint (God bless him).
You know that Nancy and Company are going to attempt to extend the ban. If they don’t, they risk the ire of the envirotards. Left coast Dems can’t afford that, but Blue Dogs can’t afford to vote to extend something that bans what 74% of the people want - drilling for domestic oil.
So the Republicans stay together and shoot down anything else like this, they’ll force the Dems into an awkward position. Politically, some will need to support the extension (far left) and others cannot (Blue Dogs). That will fracture the Dems and the extension will fail which will then allow, tada, drilling for shale oil and in the OCS. All because of Republicans.
Now add the Dems desire to raise the gas tax, carbon credits, etc., all which will cost us the electorate more money in taxes and accomplishes nothing.
Guess how this plays out in November.
Brian Higgins says:
Nobody thinks draining the strategic reserve is the answer to gas pump prices. It’s a good idea like asking everybody to liquidate their retirement accounts to help the economy is a good idea. The Dems can’t deal with it.
Chris says:
Brian, you are right. I’m not saying it was a good idea. It’s not. Pelosi knows it too. What she is doing is giving herself and the lefties cover. It would have passed without that 2/3 majority needed. That’s why she did it with the emergency bill method. It would not allow ammendments and she knew it would be killed down and that she could pin it on the repubs for not delivering the votes. It’s politics at it’s hardball best. WE.SHOULD.DO.STUFF.LIKE.THIS. Instead we try to make nice and get creamed.
Raz0r, I heard that on the local radio and my first thought was “what will we do to screw this up?” You’re right. It’s going to be hard for the dems to not hurt themselves here.
Bobo, she’s definitely making a mockery of the republicans. Although we’re making it awfully easy for her. We could have eliminated the drilling bans when we had the majority and didn’t. We deserve what we get.
William, we have to have leaders like Rudy who it was rumored loved every negative thing the NY Times wrote about him. He relished in it. That’s leadership. That’s what we need. Pelosi is showing us how it is done.
