- Posted by Beth on May 14th, 2008 filed in 2008 election, Candidates, Cool link of the day, General, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Politics VP watch
More than 10,000 votes have been cast and the Elite Eight has emerged:
* Mike Huckabee (54%) vs. Condoleezza Rice (45%)
* Mark Sanford (53%) vs. Mitt Romney (46%)
* Tim Pawlenty (55%) vs. Colin Powell (44%)
* Kay Bailey Hutchison (52%) vs. Tom Ridge (47%)
* Sarah Palin (62%) vs. Sam Brownback (37%)
* Bobby Jindal (52%) vs. Michael Steele (47%)
* Rob Portman (60%) vs. Joe Lieberman (39%)
* Charlie Crist (60%) vs. John Thune (39%)
Make your picks (mine are in boldface):
* Huckabee vs. Sanford
* Pawlenty vs. Hutchison
* Palin vs. Jindal
* Portman vs. Crist

Lord Bitememan says:
My picks:
Sanford: More of an establishment type, southern, doesn’t give the suicide wing of the party the jitters like Huckabee would.
Pawlenty: Refer to previous round’s “mug” factor.
Palin: Jindal is an ace in the hole for 2012 or 2016. He needs some experience and a reputation of his own, though, before he’s ready. If the fates are kind, he’s the 45th president. Now is not the time for him to play 2nd banana to anyone.
Crist: When I first heard Portman suggested, I said “Rob who? Does he have a daughter named Natalie?” And that pretty much sums up why Portman does nothing for a McCain ticket. McCain is running against a superstar in Obama, and he needs some star power to help buttress against that. Crist is known nationally, and Crist’s years have been good for Florida.
Stix says:
Can I vote none of the above. Sanford and Pahlin arethe only 2 that I think McCain should consider.
Pahlin justhada child and I don;tthink sheis going to go anywhere. And Jindal is god, but let him getsome experience in Louisianna first.
I still like Lt Gov Steele,not just because he is an African American, but heisvery intelligent and would bring a lot to McCain’s campaign.
Oh well, he is probably going to pick a friend from the Senate and stick it to conservatives again,along withn him drinking the cool-aide of the Goracle.
Stix says:
that is good,not god.
man I am not awake yet
Beth says:
Nah, no need to worry about “sticking it to conservatives.” THIS conservative is quite happy, regardless of whom he picks (although a few exceptions will annoy me, but not enough for me to feel betrayal).
Watch the video I’m gonna post. Srsly.
rightwingprof says:
Here’s what I don’t understand. Colin Powell? God, no. He’s be a national security disaster. But why is nobody mentioning Stormin’ Norman? He’s the one who was the architect, not Powell. Powell did pretty much nothing compared to Norman. And doesn’t he live in Florida now?
And Hutchinson beat Ridge? Where’s the logic behind that? McCain doesn’t need Hutchinson to carry Texas, but Ridge may very well help him swing Pennsylvania, and that’s a lot of electoral votes.
Lord Bitememan says:
rightwingprof: Amen on Ridge vs. Hutchinson!
Daltonsbriefs says:
Looks like we’re on for Final Four now.
I choose Palin and Pawlenty
