Paultards trying to subvert the National Convention for their guy

I saw this at Digg (where else?) last week, but ignored it after burying it. It seems, though, that Paultards are quite serious about hijacking the Republican Convention. If you don’t want to see the “plan” at the Paultards’ blogs, read it here. Snip:

*The Strategy:*

The strategy therefore must be to get as many Ron Paul delegates selected to represent their states at the National Convention.

That means our delegates need to stay low-key.

Resolutions are a dead giveaway, especially when they are fought over things like opposition to the war, or abolishing the Federal Reserve and the IRS, all signature issues of Ron Paul.

So, the best plan is to shut up, move along, do what you have to do to get selected, sign the pledge to “support” McCain (it doesn’t say you promise not to abstain!) and just get in short of outright lying, of course.

If there are any ethical concerns about this supposed “stealth tactic,” think about what ethical concerns you may have if you allow McCain to become president by your inaction. [Continue reading...]

Ethics? We don’t need no stinkin’ ethics! It’s REVOLUTION! Forget about the sheeple’s votes, this is a coup!
/vomiting

At least one person is fighting back. Heather Johnson of Moms4Mitt.com:

I am a Mitt fan and have a blog for his support. But I have also pledged on my blog my support for McCain as a our GOP nominee. I am trying to do my part in stopping these Ron Paul fans from overtaking the convention with their agenda nonsense and just get McCain officially nominated.

Heather is trying to just GET to the convention, but she needs help (financially) getting there. If you can drop a few shekels her way, you’ll be doing your part to shut up these asshat Paultards. Make no mistake, they are extremely well-organized (online activity and caucus results should tell you that much) and you can be sure they’ll make their presence known at the National Convention. Unless you want to see the GOP have an even more f’d up convention than it looks like the Dems will have, the Paultard kiddies must be stopped.

Ron Paul has even given tacit support to this idea (or that’s how it’ll be read by his fanatic supporters), while leaving his options open for a third party run:

“I’ll be very cautious about what I do,” he said, noting his effort to encourage his supporters to get involved with their local Republican committee.

And you know Ron Paul–he’s a stickler for the last letter of the Constitution. If it can be interpreted to allow this “loophole” that can get him nominated–or at the very least, create chaos–it’s A-OK. He’ll say this is exactly what the Constitution was designed for. (Nevermind the votes for the candidates–the votes for delegates matter more? LOL.)

Please help Heather out - I absolutely vouch for her honesty and ethics 100%. She needs help getting to the Convention, and we need to put the final nail in the Paultard coffin of crazy once and for all.

Ron Paul Revolution = OVER

Well, Well….This is the first I have heard about it. For all who don’t know, Mr. Paul is not a conservative any more than John McCain is a conservative. Mr. Paul is a Libitarian. And John McCain is a Liberal. The only true conservative out there is Mr. Alan Keyes. Yup. Go to http://alankeyes.com and see for yourself. I refuse to vote for John McCain. I consider myself just right of Rush Limbaugh. Not just right of Mr. Leiberman, like John McCain is. No, I don’t want Hillary or B. Hussain Obama to be President, but, dammit, I don’t want a liberal like McCain to be president either. These liberal “republicans” are hijacking the Conservative movement. Ronald Reagan was, and is, my Conservative hero. God bless the true Conservatives and God Bless Alan Keyes. The Constitutional Party may have rejected him (they just did on Saturday if you didn’t know) but I am still for ALAN KEYES. America needs Alan Keyes, not a Liberal like Hillary, far left Liberal B. Hussain Obama or a Left wing Republican like John McCain. What’s a man to do?

What’s the matter Mike, is McCain too soft on “Final Solution” to the “Mexican Question” for you? McCain is stridently pro-life, and last time I checked balanced budgets were supposed to be our issue (they were, at least, back in 1994’s permutation of conservatism). Why is it that anybody to the left of Hitler is a screaming bleeding heart liberal?

I listen to my friend, Sean Hannity, as he listed the Conservative ideas that McCain stood for. He came up with, I believe, about five. I am not saying that Mr. McCain is not a good man. He is. I do like the fact that he supports those five items. Or was it six. Alan Keyes is right down to the wire, in every aspect, a Conservative.

That’s “libertarian”, dear. Have you never heard of the libertarian faction of the GOP?

True, they have fled the party in droves since the ‘04 election, but I suppose the current neoconservative GOP establishment is perfectly happy replacing all those conservative voters with more big-government, borrow-and-spend Scoop Jackson Democrats, hm?

“If you analyze it, I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism.”

Mike, I’ll call it a difference of perception then. You see in Keyes a man who hits all the conservative nails on the head. I see in Keyes a man who has never come up with a thought of his own in his lifetime. Yeah, McCain departed from conservative orthodoxy on a few issues here and there. That’s because McCain actually bothered to form an opinion of his own rather than parrot talking points all his life. Implicit in that is the sort of leadership we can expect in Keyes. As long as the world doesn’t change around Keyes and he adopts some good ideas going in he’ll be okay. But if the world around Keyes changes he’ll flounder in stoicism. It’s exactly the same sort of thing we saw out of Bush, and that’s why when conditions in Iraq turned it was McCain who pushed the surge strategy and not Bush. Neither Keyes nor Bush are dynamic independant thinkers. If you want leaders who can’t adapt to conditions on the ground, demand conformists. If you want leaders who can adjust their strategies and thinking, you’ll have to take a risk on people who will depart from doctrine.

Remember, Mike, it’s the Republican Party, not the Church of Reagan.

MacGhil, I’m as big a stickler for spelling as anyone (ask around), and even I recognize that as a simple error. If you think that’s indicative of not knowing about libertarianism, you’re really reaching for a criticism.

Not sure where you’re getting “big government” or “borrow and spend” when John McCain is the nominee. Have you never heard of John McCain? Do you not realize that he’s always been a budget hawk? If you’re talking about the other big spenders on the Hill, I agree–they’re out of control. John McCain isn’t those guys.
Oh, but he’s for winning the war we’re in, so he’s an Evil Neoconservative™, therefore, everything about him is to be attacked with false, mindless statements. LOL.

Finally, I can find a thousand Reagan quotes that will contradict Ron Paul. I laugh at Paultards’ insistence on using carefully selected quotes to attempt to bolster an indefensible candidacy. It’s become a Paultard cliche - call everyone else liberal or socialist (or in your case, Democrats), and end with some quote from Reagan, Franklin, Jefferson, or Gandhi.
Small-government, pro-market conservatism does not necessitate support for paleolibertarians like Ron Paul or anyone else, nor would it be the least bit sensible or consistent.

Sorry, Mike, but I don’t take my political views from Sean Hannity (LOL!) or any other media talking head. I don’t need them to back up my ideas, either. I think for myself.

LB, “anybody to the left of Hitler is a screaming bleeding heart liberal” sums up the position of just about every single True Conservative™ (”no true Scotsman” fallacy) I’ve seen on teh internets. What’s funny is these True Conservatives™ looooove to quote Reagan (see MacGhil and others) but they forget about the countless other times he complained of extremists and hard-liners in the GOP, because they ultimately defeat the conservative agenda. Sure, Alan Keyes is conservative, but he represents a tiny fraction of the GOP, much less the electorate as a whole. (And those who agree with RP in whole are even fewer in number–they’re just better organized.)

  12. Gravatar
    Beth says:

Also, Mike - what’s a man to do?
That’s easy. Vote for the man who can get you SOME of what you want rather than NONE. The Democrats obviously won’t further your ideals, and Alan Keyes can’t do it either because he will not be elected, ever. (Nor will Ron Paul.) Do you really think you’re ever going to see a President with whom you agree 100%, when you’re coming from the farther reaches of the right? You’d be crazy not to take what you can get.

If you want people like Keyes in higher office, start at the local level. As it is, Keyes couldn’t even beat Barry O. for Senate–nor was he even close. He had no base of support to speak of. Run for office yourself, or find others who are in line with Keyes and urge them to run. If the agenda is worthy, they/you will be elected. If voters find such an agenda unacceptable at the local level, they won’t. Nor will it happen on the national level, either. Even the Paultards understand this–they’re running candidates all over the place in local elections. Whether they win remains to be seen (I say they won’t, beyond RP keeping his seat due to his status as an incumbent and the Paultards financial largesse).

That’s what it’s all about, SH. McCain needs to be Commander in Chief, now more than ever. Our men and women in uniform deserve nothing less than the best. Every other issue pales in comparison to what’s best for our troops. Running away, only to have to return to mop up a bigger mess–a catastrophe–is precisely the wrong thing to do. Apparently the Left and the Paultards think that if we disengage, everyone will be peaceful and not bother anyone again. It must be tough living in a fantasy world.
Considering his own sons are serving and one has already been to Iraq, it should be obvious he has the troops best interests in mind.

The biggest thing the Shrieking Right has not been able to face is that they will never, ever get their brand of conservative elected President. Alan Keyes got less than 1% of the vote, just as one example. Saying Reagan was one of them is re-writing history. It is the Reagan Democrats that got him elected, not the Shrieking Right. The Shrieking Right can complain as loudly as they want, but the plain fact is that they can’t get out the vote. Most of the country does not want to go that way. Think of the electorate as a standard bell-shaped curve. Most of the people are in the middle: 68% in fact. That’s one standard deviation. Two standard deviations takes care of 97% of the population. The Shrieking Right is to the right of this, the right-wing equivalent of Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers. The Shrieking Right, like the Shrieking Left, is LOUD, but that’s all they’ve got. They don’t have the numbers. The election will be won in the middle, as it always is. It’s a lot easier to talk to the working class Democrat-leaning veteran and convince him McCain is the man than to placate the Shrieking Right and risk alienating the very same veterans.

You’d think an intelligent response to this state of affairs would be for the Shrieking Right to take a cold look at the facts and reassess their strategy to address what they need to do to attract more voters. What is it about heir stance that alienates voters and how can that be alleviated? But that’s not what they do. Instead, they Shriek louder, thus alienating even more voters. And then, the piece d’resistance: They’ll withhold their vote! And if enough of them do, then they give the presidency to the most liberal senator in the country, likely a closet socialist, who will destroy this country as we know it, gut the military, raise taxes to confiscatory levels, increase welfare, and do all the things the Shrieking Right vehemently opposes.

So your principles are so important to you that you will willingly see the country destroyed to prove what a principled person you are. That reminds me of a kid continually bashing himself in the face, then complaining that it hurts. The bottom line here is that unless you WANT to see Obama/Hillary in office, you’ll vote for McCain. I;m sorry your guy didn’t make it, but HE DIDN’T GET THE VOTES! A vote withheld for McCain IS A VOTE for Obama-Hillary. Hello? Earth to Shrieking Right, hello? What about this don’t you understand?

address what they need to do to attract more voters. What is it about heir stance that alienates voters and how can that be alleviated?

Nail, meet head. That’s what I’ve been saying for YEARS. I myself am constantly called “liberal” by my fellow conservatives because I look for ways to draw libs IN, rather than playing Ann Coulter or James Dobson. What is it about their (our!) stance? Ann Coulter, James Dobson, Michelle Malkin, etc. They talk about the Party of Reagan, but they’ve driven away more conservatives and Republicans than Reagan brought in. That’s why we’re losing nowadays. That’s why their (our!) agenda isn’t getting through.
I say “our” because I’m a conservative myself and agree with the Shrieking Right on most things, although frequently to a less extreme degree. As a conservative, I am wildly resentful of the Shrieking Right because they DO NOT REPRESENT ME in their rhetoric or in their immature approach to politics. Politics is and always has been about compromise, whether the absolutists like it or not. They’re giving the Left a HUGE assist in sending this country down the shitter, because for them it’s always “my way or the highway.”

It also says to me that they don’t understand the idea of freedom as much as they claim they do, although they do understand the concept of being free to make giant asses of themselves anytime and anywhere on the internet or elsewhere.

Kinda reminds me of another little group that got together in 1923 in an effort to subvert a government chosen by the majority of the people because, of course, “they knew what was best for their country”.
