Wordpress 2.5 question
- Posted by Beth on April 7th, 2008 filed in Blogs Suck, Pseudogeek stuff wordpress
Have any of you who use Wordpress done the upgrade to 2.5 yet and encountered problems?
I upgraded my test database when it first came out, and a bunch of plugins weren’t ready. Have any of y’all upgraded more recently without plugin problems? What about the file uploader?

I upgrade my test site last week and Pirate’s Cove yesterday. Everything seems to be working correctly, except that no inline more button shows up in the visual editor. I just add the code manually.
All the other plugins, at least the important ones, are working. Bad Behavior is not supposed to, but seems to be OK. Haven’t tested Live yet.
Can’t seem to get the photo embedder working correctly, but, haven’t really played with it that much, since I mostly use Photobucket or my Gallery page.

I upgraded all of my blogs over the weekend with no troubles at all, on any of them. All plugins worked accordingly as well.
I did have trouble however when I upgraded the PHP Exec widget plugin. It borked on my main site.
Other than that one issue, everything was smooth.

My dashboard page wouldn’t load after I upgraded, but it was user error. I did not completely delete the wp-admin and wp-content folders.
I deleted both and ftp’d over again and everything worked fine.
Beth says:
Shit. I was looking for an excuse to not upgrade, because I hate the new dashboard. :(
Oh well, I guess I’ll get used to it.

I’ve upgraded bRight & Early and Blogs.4Bauer, both seem to be working just fine. The problem with the image loader/Bad Behavior seems to be that they don’t play nice together. I’m running about 27 plugins and all seems well.

I upgraded on a seldom-used weblog. The photo embedder doesn’t work so I’m waiting for that to get fixed in an upgrade before upgrading on TAM.
I think there are dashboard plugins to fix the appearance which I can get used to.

I upgraded tonight with the Wordpress automatic upgrade plugin. Everything seems to be working as it should, although I rather liked 2.3 and only have three or four plugins on my page.

From a post I wrote on Sunday:
The good: the ability to embed video’s without losing the formatting like with earlier WP. Can’t figure out the pictures thing, but, then, I mostly use Photobucket.
The ability to open in full page for editing. I like that.
For the most part, it is pretty much the same, in a slightly different format.
The bad. Cannot find the Files Editor module which had always been under the Manage tab. Trackbacks box way down the Write page. Categories down below the write box. I always liked that stuff on the side, and makes way more sense.
Otherwise, not much difference. I’ll take the better ability to embed video’s anyday.

I haven’t done the upgrade on my main blog yet, but I did set up a test blog. There, other than having to update my captcha plugin, and not having WP-Polls installed before putting 2.5 on (the release version is supposed to work on upgrades, however), things work fine…if I use Firefox.
The upload problem is IE-specific, but there is a patch for that. DJ Allyn over Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler scored it, and put a link to it in his post on uploading graphics in 2.5.
That said, I fragging hate the new-post page. I’m one that uses categories rather heavily (I didn’t modify my theme to display tags), and I occassionally use my Emergency Blogging System sockpuppet.
Beth says:
Thanks, Steve! I’d probably go ahead and upgrade if I were the only one writing here, but I think some of the co-conspirators use the shitty visual editor and/or IE. I sort of want to upgrade ONLY because I’m sick of that stupid nag message in the dashboard about upgrading. I don’t really like using s/w when there’s something more secure, but damn…I’m seeing little other reason to upgrade at this point.
Beth says:
Teach, the embedded video problem? I use the html editor so I never had the problem. :D
(DEATH TO THE VISUAL EDITOR!)
S. Weasel says:
I had just upgraded to 2.3, so I’m crabby that a new version came out so soon afterwards. I’m having a terrifying problem with 2.3 where the first “save and continue editing” occasionally acts like “dump the whole post and pretend you never typed anything,” so I might have to bite the bullet.
William Teach says:
I could never get used to the html editor. When the visual editor crapped out, as it did in early 2.x, I uploaded a massive editor program (which was actually pretty cool.) I think you will like the visual with 2.5.
