Computer hell (again)

BAH. I lost another hard drive, this time on my PC, which I don’t really use any more except for the fact that I have a ton of stuff stored on it that I occasionally access via Bluetooth. Dammit.

If I disappear for a few days, it’ll be because I’m thinking of breaking out the Linux live CD to boot to see if it’s just Windoze messing up. :sigh: (Thank you, Lance, for the Linux CD–I might actually use it, finally!)

Oh well, it’s not like I’m doing any blogging lately. I told you, no teevee in this room = lack of blogging motivation. (Maybe that’s a good thing?)

    Beth, you’re welcome!

If I sent you a Knoppix Live-CD, use that!
It’s the best Linux distribution for fixing problems!!

If I can help, email or call me this evening! I’ve used Knoppix a coupla times
to either back up a windows partition or pull my files off & stick them somewhere else!………………………Lance

Beth, I found the article on how to move your Windows files off the PC HDD using Knoppix! Read down to Hack #72. I’ve done this successfully several times!

    http://searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid39_gci1111316,00.html

This ‘hack’ is for an earlier release of Knoppix, v3.4. I think it will also work for the Knoppix v5.1.1 I sent you!

    Cheers!………………………Lance

This is an area where Apple has everyone beat. Apple has firewire target mode. Just hold down the T key and power on the box. Once it shows the firewire pic on the screen, connect a firewire cable from it to another box. Voila, instant access.

Why can’t Dell, HP, etc build this into their boxes. Would make life so much simpler.

So, did you get your data?

Eh, I’ve been lazy. I haven’t been sufficiently motivated YET to move across the room (see? lazy!) to the junk corner where the PC is (and belongs). ;)

Maybe tomorrow. My new teevee is getting here today! woohoo!
