Next week, I will embark on a “Service to America” tour visiting numerous locations that have played a significant role in shaping who I am today; places where I have had the honor of serving our nation. This tour will take me through Mississippi, Virginia, Florida and my home state of Arizona. I look forward to visiting sites that have left an imprint on my life aboard my campaign bus, the Straight Talk Express.

I wonder if my 600 dollar bribe rebate from the federal gov’t could cover it. Hmm. 600 dollars for a 3 diamond NY hooker from the Emperor’s Club or 600 dollars for a ride on a bus. A cramped, filled-with-sweaty-Washington-Post-reporters bus. There better be some chilled Brisk Teas in the fridge, McCain… I want confirmation there’s at least 3 cases of Brisk Teas and 3 cases of Jones Black Cherry Sodas (my mom owns stock in Jones Soda, shut up) in that fridge, or no deal!

I’m having difficulty getting with this program! After 11 years of driving for peeps like Continental Trailways, I’d rather drive the friggin’ bus than ride in it! And riding in a bus with a lot of prima-donna reporters doesn’t sound like fun! Besides, I’d prolly get into a big argument with Mac about immigration & amnesty, get tossed off the bus & have to walk back to town!!…………….Lance

Lance, that’s because you aren’t giving him a fair hearing. I was against McCain a year ago, but after I listened to all sides of the story I had no problem making my decision. If you’re only listening to people ranting about “amnesty,” you aren’t ever going to change your mind–and it’s not even because that position is intellectually honest. It’s not. But you don’t have to even agree with McCain’s position on illegal immigration, anyway. There are other issues of far too great importance to ignore them.
Stick around here (or here, or here), Lance, you’ll come around.

Lance, you wouldn’t be the first to have an argument with him. I’ve had my own rows with John. Believe it or not he actually used to respond to e-mails after 2000. I gave him my two-cents on his defections from the party on various issues, and even defied him to tell me why I should vote for Joe Schwarz over Dick Posthumus in the primary for Michigan governor (he didn’t sway me, but I give him props for giving me an answer). The man is as stubborn as a mule, that’s for sure. But, consider this; when he discovered he had credibility with the voters he wasn’t afraid to put it on the line and campaign for a lot of Republicans out there. Conservatives (hold-outs at least) might have their reservations about some of his stances, but he sure is owed a lot of favors by a lot of conservatives who might just owe their office today to his efforts and credibility. Falwell, Robertson, and Buchanan sure didn’t return the favor for any moderates out there.

We have a friend who is also a former fighter pilot and as a retired Colonel he seems to share a lot of the personality traits of McCain. I was not a big supporter of McCain till I had this little epiphany a while back and without going into too much detail I think I can give my vote to a man that can make hard decisions at mach two and has sincerely laid it on the line for their country.
