Clinton = Joe McCarthy!!1!!

Campaigning in Charlotte, N.C., [Bill] Clinton said, “I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country, and people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics.”
“Outrageous,” McPeak said after an Obama rally in Salem, Ore. “I think it’s horrible. … I think Bill Clinton is, or ought to be, better than that.”
McPeak likened the comment to McCarthyism.
“It sounds more like McCarthy,” he said. “I was in college when Joe McCarthy was accusing good Americans of being traitors, so I’ve had enough of it.”
But we all know Slick Willie is (depending on what the definition of “is,” is) slicker than that. Apparently, he wasn’t questioning Obama’s patriotism, but was talking about how questions of patriotism are irrelevant compared to the issues in a campaign. Gaze at the shiny slickness:
A spokesman for Bill Clinton, Matt McKenna, had earlier elaborated on the former president’s remarks.
“As is indicated by the quote itself, President Clinton was talking about the need to talk about issues, rather than falsely questioning any candidate’s patriotism,” McKenna said. “He was lamenting that these kind of distractions ‘always seems to intrude’ on political campaigns. This consistent with his criticism of the ‘politics of personal destruction,’ which dates back 16 years.”
Yet Obamabots automatically ASSume it’s meant as a slam on Obama’s patriotism. Must be they’re aware of people’s serious questions about what Obama thinks of America, considering how hypersensitive they are about it! HA!!!
It’s even funnier coming from the former President who once said he “loathed” the military!

UPDATE: Well, I wasn’t gonna say anything, but…GaryC, Wind Rider, Centurion68, and mjtyson can handle it. Spot on. Bob McCarty is a little more gentle than they are, though. This from mjtyson cracked me up–and I believe him, too:
And despite McPeak retiring (there is a God!) in 1994, he is still remembered, and used as a slur EVEN BY THOSE WHO WERE NOT IN THE AIR FORCE IN 1994!!! I hear it at least once a month.

You think that’s bad, you should have seen how people referred to Clinton back in the day. Not pretty, I tell ya…although I’m sure McPuke (that’s what we called him) was a good boy for him.
Thanks to Bob McCarty, ’cause I’d normally have missed all that in the comments (I usually avoid Hot Air comments like the plague).

I always love when those on the Left bring up McCarthy, because 1. most of them do not understand that the hearings were held in the House, and McCarthy was a Senator, of course, 2. McCarthy was himself rather progressive, but ran as a Republican in order to get elected, and 3. McCarthy was right about the commies.
