Lay Off My Sister

You know who you are. Those of you accusing Beth of being a liberal because she supports McCain.
I don’t agree with her choice, but it’s her choice. And I know damn well she’s no liberal.
Those of you who think you’re supporting Beth’s cause, well, you’re not all that much better.
Nowhere in that thread did I mention Romney. Get your fucking facts straight. As far as I’m concerned, you’ve discredited every other comment you’ve left.
The fact is, I don’t support anyone right now. I lean towards Rudy or Romney, but I’ll vote for the nominee when we have one.
Finally, one little last reality slap. Nobody, and I mean nobody, out in the real world gives a flying fuck. They don’t pay attention until 6 weeks before the election, and most of them don’t live their lives according to the 24 hour news cycle.
So, get off my sister’s back. Get your facts straight, and for fuck’s sake get a fucking life.
Let me leave you with this:

Hardcore Conservative says:

I don’t think the 11th commandment should apply to Republicans who don’t act or vote like conservatives or even Republicans for that matter
for example Huckabee on taxes and immigration and pardons or McCain on Immigration and treatment of terrorists
I respect McCain for his military service but as a sentor I do not like him and from what my brother who lives in Arizona tells he’s not well liked there
Just my 2.5 cents
PaulW says:
This is what’s happened to the GOP. Someone supports McCain and they get slapped for being ‘liberal.’
We’ve had years of RINO-talk, accusing moderates of being Republican In Name Only, as though we were not of the same value as True Hardcore Conservative Republicans of Demigod Power (hmmm, need to come up with something that makes for a good abbrev). All this ‘Prove Yourself’ crap, as though if I agreed with everything Pat Buchanan that makes me conservative, or agreeing with Rush, or agreeing with Coulter, or worshipping Dubya like in that Jesus Camp documentary. I call BS on it. I’ve called it for years.
I am who I am. I want a balanced budget. I want out-of-control spending done away with, the bureaucracy cut to size, I want the rights of the people restored. I want torture out of our military and our intel services. I want better schools, less crime, more green apples for breakfast, and restoration of the national parks that Teddy Roosevelt created so he could go out and hunt all the bears he wanted. If I want McCain for President, so be it. If I’m conservative, so what? If I’m not, so what? I am who I am. Beth is Beth. Vinnie is Vinnie. Martin is Martin. Spartacus is Spartacus, except for when he’s surrounded by 20,000 of his closest buds. In the immortal words of Norton I, Emperor of the United States: “Oakland sucks.” No wait. He really said, “My madness keeps me sane.”
P.S. I do ramble, don’t I? Well, that’s me. :)
MitchM says:
Hi Beth, hope you are weathering the storm a little better now. I prefer Mitt to McCain myself mostly because of McCain’s sneak attack on the immigration issue with Kerry and Kennedy. Personally I think McCain is better on the terrorism issue except for the torture part. Can’t really blame him because he’s been there and done that. Mitt’s had his own brushes with liberalism but I cut him some slack because he was stuck with a state full of lefties. I guess what I’m trying to say is just because I think McCain’s a little to centrist for me it doesn’t mean you are not one of the people I like most in this world. You are wonderful and pretty too!
Beth says:
If he’s not well liked in Arizona (he certainly was when I lived there, although that was fifteen years ago), how’s he keep getting re-elected? How is he not just winning in the GOP nom polls there, but walloping the competition?
And of course, there’s this from Arizona. Granted, it’s a newspaper editorial, but I assure you, the Arizona Republic isn’t some lefty fish wrapper.
Beth says:
Love ya, Mitch. :)
Beth says:
Wait, I think it was just a misunderstanding, considering it’s usually Romney supporters who are slagging McCain & supporters. I’m sure he didn’t realize you’re in the “call me when there’s a nominee” camp. ;)
Anyway, thanks for the post, bratty brother.
Beth says:
Clearly, he was wrong. Or at least he missed the really important truth, which is that Oakland does indeed suck. (So does San Francisco, for that matter.)
Anonymous,Somewhere,MI says:
Beth is most correct on this one. I did not realize you hadn’t staked out a side on this and for painting you as a Romniac I appologize. Though hashing the dirt on that man is a worthy end unto itself, blending you in with that was poor form.
Gothguy says:
Having a difference of opinion supporting candidate ‘A’ over candidate ‘B’ or vice versa is one thing, trashing someone over their choice of a candidate is another.
As a former Fred! supporter, I don’t particularly care for McCain’s stance on some issues, nor Romney’s stance on some issues, but Beth’s support of McCain does not diminish my respect for her.
PaulW says:
I dunno. There’s this great comic book store in downtown San Francisco, and that does forgive a lot of sins… ;)
The point is, believe as you believe. Support whomever you support for the presidency. And always, ALWAYS, read more comic books.
Terrye says:
I think McCain would be a good president. That does not mean I am going to stay home and suck my thumb if someone else gets the nomination.
Personally I am getting tired of listening to certain people tell me what I have to think about everything from immigration to religion before I can be considered a conservative or a Republican or whatever.
I think that conservatives are proving to be their own worse enemy. They did nothing about immigration for decades and then went off the deep end over a possible a compromise and called anyone who disagreed with them traitors. At least some of them did and now they are doing the same sort of stuff with this election. And who does that help? Other than the Democrats? The hardline position has thus far won no elections for anyone, all it has done is create mayhem within the ranks.
People need to ease up and let everyone make their own decisions. Last time I looked this is America and we all got that right. Including Beth.
Terrye says:
Gothguy:
Back in 2000 Fred Thompson endorsed McCain. How times have changed. I wonder what the reaction would be if he endorsed him again?
Stix says:
Well, I don;t agree with you on McCain, but I respect your opinion. You should pick the candidate you like best. I really don’t trust McCain.
This is just crazy going after someone personally for supporting a candidate. I like Guilini, but McCain is better than the Defeatocrats.
Everyone needs to take a deep breathe and just let the process go on. Then when it is all over, get behind the Republican candidate whoever it is.
Brian the sailor says:
Am I finally logged in now? Do you know who I am?
This this kind of crap I hate. This is why I have liberal friends I can speak with on blog radio and online. Because I don’t spew feces everywhere.
Why anyone would pick on Beth is beyond me! Trolls just piss me off!
Beth says:
Not just endorsed, Terrye–he was his 2000 campaign co-chair. ;-)
Beth says:
Admiral Stockdale?
(Sorry, too easy. Stockdale was a real hero though, so it’s not such a bad thing.) ;)
And yes, of course I know who you are, goofy.
Now that, Brian, is just plain crazy. Heehee.

Conservative Belle says:
I don’t agree with Beth’s choice (and she knows) but to her credit she has made the most convincing arguments I’ve read by far to support McCain.
Too bad I’m not convinced yet. Hee-hee. (runs)
Terrye says:
Beth:
Yeah, but that is different. After all Fred made all the rounds of the talk shows, sucked up to the right people. Too bad for him they were not as influential as he thought they were. Personally, I think that is what a lot of the hair pulling bug eyed craziness on the part of the talk radio people etc is all about. They fear they are losing their audience. People are no longer following instructions.
Janette says:
Well I have to vote tomorrow here in Florida and since my guy dropped out (Thompson) I have to pick a new candidate. I certainly won’t be convinced to support a candidate based upon how ferociously their supporters attack each other in blog comments. I expect that crap from Ron Paul’s nuts but not from real Republicans. What the hell, people?
MitchM says:
Oy Vay. I did it again Beth. Blew up at PatRiotic this morning when he posted something bad about Romney. He was even partially right. But he only used part of the facts to make it come out the way he wanted. He was probably trying to be funny. I am not a funny guy first thing in the morning so I let him have both barrels. I apologized later but still feel bad that I exploded like that. This poop just brings out the worst in us I guess. So much is at stake and we all think we are right. I guess if I can just remember that we will all be on the same side real soon I’ll be able to stay sane. Feb 23rd I’ve got to go caucus again. That’s going to be rough. Even if Ron Paul wins I’ll support him over the Dems. Might even be amusing for a while. Stay safe and sane!
William Teach says:
Hey, Beth, when are you going to put a McCain button on the sidebar?
burnitup says:
http://www.azpbs.org/horizon/poll/2008/1-22-08.htm
Another way of interpreting the poll is is that McCain is trailing undecided by 24 points in his home state.
Lord Bitememan says:
On the other hand, burnitup, Mr. Dave Leip says in all liklihood, McCain will carry his home state by double-digets.

You tell em Vinnie!
raz0r says:
Both of the candidates I liked (Hunter and Thompson) dropped out within days of each other. Don’t really care for what’s left. I find as much that I don’t like as well as like. Since I voted early (mailed my ballot in) and then Fred! dropped out (thnx), I had to watch the Florida primary unfold without a say (won’t be doing that again). :sigh:
But make no mistake, I will vote for whoever gets the GOP nomination because it is a better alternative to what the other side is offering.
