What Kind of World Do You Want?

That’s not just a question, that’s a website: whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com. I heard about this last night on Hannity & Colmes, when they talked to John Ondrasik from Five for Fighting, who’s put together a free CD for active duty military. Here’s the deal with that:

(Video from H&C’s segment with him here.) John Ondrasik’s a good guy. Not only did he do the free CD for the troops, he’s started the whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com project to raise money for several charities.

whatkindofWORLDdoyouwant.com is the first video community that gives back!

We are all connected to one another through our actions. Each person has the ability to make a difference. This is one of the messages of the Five For Fighting video “World.”

Tell the world what kind of world you want and raise money for charity by making and uploading a video of yourself, your friends or your family–whomever and whatever–answering the question, “What Kind Of World Do You Want?”

Or, you can raise money for charities that John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting has personally selected. Watch any clip on this site and money will go to the charity listed with that video. Please see below for the updated list of charities and contributions per views.

That’s it–just watch videos, and a dollar goes to the charity designated for the video. Here’s one for Fisher House called simply One American’s Thank You to Our Troops, just to start. Another one: Soldier’s View. There are plenty of others as well, and not just for Fisher House; there are videos designated for Augie’s Quest (ALS research), Autism Speaks, Save the Children, and the USO as well.

Of course, you can do one better and make a video as they said, but if you aren’t the video-making type (like me), just watching the videos makes a difference. Pretty simple, isn’t it? How it works:

For charity specific donations , whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com will pay $1.00 per view of the designated charity’s videos - until the number of viewings equals the amount donated less .04 per view. The .04 expense is Revver.com’s .03/view webhosting charge and California Community Foundation’s (CCF) 1% administrative expense. OVER 95% of money donated goes directly to the chosen charity!

For general donations, whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com will again distribute OVER 95% of money donated to the selected charities. This is determined primarily by the amount of views per charity. The 5% expense will include Revver.com’s .03/view webhosting cost, CCF’s 1% administrative expense and site maintenance.

Honestly, I can’t believe this hasn’t taken off yet–it’s a great idea, and so simple anyone can participate–even those of us who are broke after Christmas. Go.
