Tree falls in forest

I think Condi Rice is my biggest ever political disappointment. I used to believe she was a true believer. Now I believe she believes in nothing.

Annapolis?

The project depends, as ever, on whether America is willing at last to demand something in return for the more than $100 billion it has lavished on Israel over the years. However, it also depends on the Israelis and the Palestinians accepting a simple truth: Either they compromise, or the conflict continues. Unless they can do that, no amount of US arm-twisting will succeed. Annapolis will live up to its advance billing as a flop, both Palestinians and Israelis will keep suffering, and the region will remain a cauldron of volatility.

My money is on failure. The Seventh Century Savagesâ„¢ will see to it.

(Eh, hate the current wonkiness, I can’t tell who wrote this post.)

Anyway, the shine wore off of Condi for me some time ago. Good thing, because otherwise her never ending pursuit of Palestinian appeasement might send me into shock.

Annapolis? Know this: no matter the outcome, the Palestinians can’t lose. Unless Israel and all Jews agree to roll over and die, Israel and America get to be the “failures” at the end of this conference. We will again be the bad guys. Others may view Condi’s conference as pointless but the fact is that just by coming to the table the Palestinians win.

Annapolis is a predestined flop. Rice has become a creature of the State Department - sort of like the invasion of the body snatchers.

Tell the Palestinian swine to clean up their act or face extinction.

Your bet is a safe one, Beth. The Palestinian irredentists will always demand something Israel cannot afford to give them. Usually it’s “the right of return,” which would guarantee the destruction of Israel demographically. Alternately, it might be the dismantling of the security fence, which would permit a free flow of terrorists and suicide bombers into Israel once more.

Someone once said that the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. With Abbas cuddling up to his violent factions and HAMAS proclaiming that it will not participate unless Israel agrees ab initio to its demands, this opportunity looks pre-missed.

I’m with you. The only realistic peace plan is one which allows Israel to destroy all its enemies without interference.
