Meet Samina Malik

a/k/a the Lyrical Terrorist:
Samina Malik, who liked to call herself a “lyrical terrorist”, called for attacks on the West and described “poisoned bullets” capable of killing an entire street in her poetry.
The 23-year-old Muslim wrote of her desire to become a martyr and listed her favourite videos as the “beheading ones”.
Described as a “committed Islamic extremist”, Malik, a shop assistant at Heathrow, hoarded an extensive collection of terrorism manuals, the Old Bailey heard.
She was a member of an extremist group linked to Omar Bakri Mohammed, a hate preacher who fled to Lebanon from Britain two years ago.
Yesterday a jury found her guilty of possessing documents likely to be used for terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000, by a majority of ten to one, after deliberating for 19 hours.
Malik, who wore a black head scarf, wept as the verdict was read out.
Jonathan Sharp, prosecuting, told the court the defendant liked to be known as the “lyrical terrorist” or “a stranger awaiting martyrdom”.
“She is a committed Islamic extremist, who supports terrorism and terrorists.”
“She had a library of material that she had collected for terrorist purposes.”
“That collection would be extremely useful for someone planning terrorist activity.”
The court heard how police raided her home in Southall, West London, after an email from her was found on the computer of a terror suspect in October last year.
She had a profile on the social networking website Hi-5, where she called for the execution of “depraved” Westerners .
The British-born Muslim listed her interests as helping the Mujahideen “in any way I can”.
She also wrote of how she enjoyed video messages from Osama Bin Laden and “videos that showed massacres of the kuffars”, or non-Muslims.

Just another moderate moslem, and remember… there is no terrorist threat. I’m sure you’ll be glad to know that after she was found guilty, Judge Peter Beaumont told Malik that she was an enigma and then, he set her free on bail pending sentencing.
Nothing to see here but a really lousy poet, eh?

Talmadge East says:
i don’t mind them prosecuting her for being a terrorists, but they should have to prove that she did anything other than write some cheeky poems. She was found “guilty of possessing documents likely to be used for terrorism???” Yeah, I know the Brits don’t care as much about free speech as we do, but come on. If she was involved of any kind of conspiracy to commit terrorism then convict her of that, but if you can’t don’t put her in jail for having some books. I hope this wouldn’t fly in America. I will stick with Eisenhower on this one, “Don’t join the book burners. Don’t think you’re going to conceal faults by concealing evidence that they ever existed. Don’t be afraid to go in your library and read every book.”
OldGuy says:
I’m not so sure about the possesion of printed material thing myself but she was in a position to provide material support and definately moral support for jihadists.
Personally I think they should revoke her citizenship and deport her to Iran or Syria, she can practice her “poetry” there and she wouldn’t have to suffer infidels and “kaffirs”.

Frankly speaking, I would be satisfied when someone in the UK would put ummah.com and mpacuk uder state security services scrutiny. These message boards are as disturbing as this stuff.

Hi, I work for BBC World Service radio on an international discussion programme, called World Have Your Say. On Friday 16th November we are planning to have a discussion on whether people should be prosecuted for their thoughts, if they are seen as criminal in nature. The pegs for this are Samina Malik, aka the Lyrical Terrorist, and the actor Chris Langham, who was prosecuted for having paedophile images, but had not committed any paedophile acts. We are on air from 6pm to 7pm London Time (1pm to 2pm East Coast Time in the States) and were wondering if you might be willing to take part. Please send me your phone numbers to martin.vennard@bbc.co.uk or call me on +442075570635 and I will call you straight back.
Many thanks
Yours sincerely
Martin Vennard

World Samina Malik Day December 6th

Beth says:
Rus, I’m sure Leni Riefenstahl would heartily approve of your love for “art.”
Think about it, useful idiot.
Rus Bowden says:
Hi Beth,
Leni Riefenstahl? I would love to read how you’ve develop this idea.
Yours,
Rus
Id rather not leave it says:
I think everyone needs to take a step back. How many people write? What if you wanted to be a true writer and get into character research, perhaps maybe curiousity got the better of you maybe you dared yourself. Maybe you did it to get into the wrong crowd? All because you fancied that guy… Maybe you had nothing to believe in and then this came along. The problem with the world is we always want to ostricize and put people behind bars but wheres the re-habilitation. In ten years well be on the same website leaving the same judgemental responses on more or less the same subject we will never get to the root cause if we never try to learn and understand. What if Samina was your child what is the first thing you would ask her, i would ask her why? Yet in nearly all your responses you guys didint even touch on that. Lets help not hate. If she was a journalist would we even be here. If she was an actress would she just be researching her role. She will still walk free maybe with the same terrorist beliefs she supposedly but what have we done to change her mind? Where was the people who loved her to question what she scribbled on the mirror? why did she cry when she was sentenced.
Beth says:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
:can’t breathe:
Gawd, “I’d rather not leave it,” that’s the best parody of a useful idiot that I’ve ever seen! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Beth says:
It’s really quite simple, Rus. If you know of Leni Riefenstahl and her work, it should be quite obvious. No intellectual gyrations required.
