The Mirror Prank
MUST READ the story with the haiku!
Digg it here. (The Paulbots are pissed! HAHAHAHA!)
So I was down in DC this past weekend and happened to run into a well-connected media person, who told me flatly, unequivocally that “everyone knows” The LA Times was sitting on a story, all wrapped up and ready to go about what is a potentially devastating sexual scandal involving a leading Presidential candidate. “Everyone knows” meaning everyone in the DC mainstream media political reporting world. “Sitting on it” because the paper couldn’t decide the complex ethics of whether and when to run it. The way I heard it they’d had it for a while but don’t know what to do. The person who told me (not an LAT person) knows I write and didn’t say “don’t write about this.”
So, if he didn’t say “don’t write about it” and Ron Rosenbaum knows about it, why not write about it?
Yeah, you’re thinking John Edwards, right? Nope.
I’ve been sensing hints that something’s going on, something’s going unspoken in certain insider coverage of the campaign (and by the way this rumor the LA Times is supposedly sitting on is one I never heard in this specific form before. By the way, it’s not the Edwards rumor, it’s something else.
And when my source said “everyone in Washington” knows about it he means everyone in the elite Mainstream media, not just the LA Times, but everyone regularly writing about the Presidential campaign knows about it and doesn’t know what to do with it. And I must admit it really is/was juicy if true. But I don’t know if it’s true and I can’t decide if I think it’s relevant. But the fact that “everyone” in the elite media knew about it and was keeping silent about it, is, itself, news. But you can’t report the “news” without reporting the thing itself. Troubling!
Calling Matt Drudge…where are you? Dave in Texas sez at Ace’s,
In DC media circles, the phrase “everybody knows about it” is often code. Political Operatives with sketchy info try to get a credulous reporter to disseminate their dirt by enhancing it’s credibility with those 4 little words. Not only do the words obstensibly add credibility, but they also get the competitive juices flowing. Everyone wants to be first to break the STORY OF THE CENTURY!
And, in a post Drudge/Lewinsky-world, there are careers to be made by breaking a juicy sex story. Remember, Drudge’s initial story was about Newsweek spiking Isikoff’s story. And fewer people in DC knew about that then supposedly know about this story. (If I remember correctly, Isikoff leaked the info to Drudge out of frustration.)
So, who is it? Which candidate would “everyone” covering the campaign want to protect?
Hillary, yes–but I just don’t see it. She’s not stupid, especially after having lived the Lewinsky circus. And honestly, I just think women generally don’t lose their minds when given the opportunity to stray, at least to the extent a Presidential candidate would have to lose his or her mind.
I don’t see it being any of the Republicans, because someone would have reported “the rumor,” if nothing else (because of the HYPOCRISY!!!). It’s not like the story about John Edwards wasn’t reported, so why would they cover for a Republican? Maybe it’s one of the no-chance-of-winning Democrats; maybe they don’t want to report it because they figure the candidate isn’t going to win anyway.
Or maybe it is just that–a rumor, and nothing else.
Not that I’m implying anything.
UPDATE 1: Luke Ford thinks it is Hillary. Now that would be a scandal. (I seriously doubt that story, though. Smells like BS to me.)
UPDATE 2: Now this Clinton story, I can believe. Absolutely.

Well, if you call this a “response.”
Bottom line– Will the Ron Paul campaign be rejecting the $500 contribution made by neo-Nazi Don Black?
At this time, I cannot say that we will be rejecting Mr. Black’s contribution, but I will bring the matter to the attention of our campaign director again, and expect some sort of decision to be made in coming days.
Hmm. Color me unimpressed.
Of course, considering this eye-opening story from someone who worked for Ron Paul in 1996, I’m not surprised.
Campaign Manager Elam suggested to me that since I was half-Jewish I ought to go to Lefty’s press conference to disrupt the event. We had gotten word that Morris was going to hold a press conference in Victoria, with documents proving that Ron Paul had close ties to Radical Right-wing Anti-Semitic and other racist groups. One of our campaign team members, even suggested that I wear a Jewish yalmaca (like a beanie cap), and loudly challenge Morris in the middle of his speech.
I did. All by myself I went to the event wearing my Jewish yalmaca, and other Jewish adornment. Half-way through the press conference, when Morris started to wave papers proving Paul’s ties to Anti-Semitic groups, I loudly interrupted that “I was Jewish, and was a top Campaign Staffer for Ron Paul,” and continued that Ron Paul would not have hired me if he hated Jews.
Note also that the blogger/former campaign staffer (Eric Dondero) says in the comments:
With Ron Paul, the buck stops at his desk (in Clute). He knows everything that goes on in his campaigns, and even has a hand in most of it. Do not be fooled by his humble and welcoming demeanor.
Verrrry interesting, isn’t it?
So I wonder, is Ron Paul really so unaware of his Neo-Nazi support base (very well documented piece at the link)? I think not. And yet, after all these years, they still haven’t been renounced–to this day, they’re still loud ‘n’ proud for their boy Ron Paul.
More about the Anti-Semitism and general nuttinesss that seems to follow Ron Paul at Adam Holland’s blog.

Linda S. Heard, a ’specialist writer’ on middle east affairs, unburdens herself on the pages of Gulf News, with her opus “Giuliani is Mideast’s worst nightmare”.
This woman’s paranoid leftard bilge is so self-evidently idiotic that it’s almost beyond satire. I could have been reading The Onion.
As the months pass, the next election looks like a race between Democrat Hillary Clinton and the former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani for the Republicans. I’m no fan of the coolly calculating Clinton but given the alternative, she’s the one I’ll be rooting for.
At the same time, I have serious doubts as to whether certain American states are ready for a woman president and although the American voters have shown they’re fed up with Republicans they may reluctantly settle for the usual middle-aged white man over a former First Lady, no matter how bright and formidable she may be.
Note the standard lefty disclaimer that she doesn’t like Hillary (lefties always retain the position that nobody is liberal enough; that way when Hillary doesn’t nationalize grocery stores they can ‘march’, bang pots and complain that she’s in the pocket of Big Retail). And I wonder which states she might be thinking aren’t ready for a woman President…..possibly the RED ones? You know, the ones where Margaret Thatcher is fondly-remembered, widely-revered and heroine-worshiped?
Still, on to the case against Giuliani.
A clue to Giuliani’s leanings emerged during the visit of Prince Al Walid Bin Talal to Ground Zero in October 2001. Bearing a $10 million donation for disaster relief, the Saudi prince suggested the US reexamine its Middle East policies and adopt a balanced stance towards Palestinian aspirations. Giuliani’s response was to hand back the cheque.
Yeah. How awful. Giuliani refused to accept the implication that the 19 Saudi nationals who had just slaughtered 3,000 Americans were driven to it by our Middle East policies. What a heel.
Giuliani makes no bones about the fact he would use military force to set-back Iran’s nuclear programme. In September, he promised to use America’s military might to prevent Iran pursuing its nuclear ambitions should he be elected president.
She doesn’t even attempt to deny that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, which presumably is of no concern. What she dislikes is Giuliani stating clearly that he’ll prevent the suicidal psychopathic rogue state from obtaining weapons that could be used to attack the United States or our allies. One of whom, Israel (who she obviously hates; it’s on the lefty must-do list), Iran has repeatedly and explicitly stated should be ‘wiped off the map’.
It’s also worth recalling that in 1995, he banned the former Palestinian president Yasser Arafat from attending events held in New York to celebrate the UN’s 50th anniversary and ordered his removal from a concert held at the Lincoln Centre. It’s not surprising that a panel of eight Israeli experts assembled by the daily Ha’aretz determined Giuliani is the best presidential candidate for Israel.
Ahh yes, he banned the ‘former Palestinian president’ Yasser Arafat from attending events held in New York. That would be the same Yasser Arafat that wanted to address the UN wearing a sidearm, who repeatedly funded and supported deadly terror attacks against Israel, who sponsored kidnapping, torture and murder of Israeli military personnel, who embezzled hundreds of millions of dollars in aid intended to assist the poor souls living under his corrupt and brutal reign, etc, etc, etc. It’s shame that nobody has the balls to ban Ahmadinejad and Chavez from entering.
A Giuliani presidential tenure would also be extremely bad news for Americans who value the few civil liberties they have left. He strongly backs the controversial Patriot Act; is an advocate for wire-tapping and domestic spying, and isn’t sure whether “water-boarding” or sleep deprivation should be considered as “torture”.
Where do you start? Which civil liberties is she referring to? Those of possible Al Qaeda operatives? And when did Giuliani state he supported ‘domestic spying’? That is simply unsubstantiated nonsense.
As things stand, Clinton holds a small tenuous lead over Giuliani in the polls overall. But in some of the states that count, such as Florida, the latter is ahead. Giuliani is also grabbing a large chunk of the evangelical vote despite his penchant for divorcing his wives for girlfriends.
No mention of Mrs. Clinton’s penchant for staying with a husband who used the Oval Office as a knocking-shop for servicing the White House interns.
But, she saves the best ’til last:
These already dangerous times are becoming even more dangerous. It’s a pity that Nobel Peace Prize recipient Al Gore has refused to put his crusade against climate change on hold to join the fray and perhaps even save the day.
No further comment needed.
I can’t help it–I love this.
I also found Haiku for You, which is kind of like Post Secret in haiku, minus the sappiness. Especially appropriate from Haiku for You after the last couple of days dealing with trolls:
Submit your ideas here. They don’t take completed haiku pics; just ideas.
If you want to do your own, though, send it to me and I’ll post yours. Maybe I’ll make it a new feature here, if there’s interest (I’m not holding my breath, though).
This article from J.B. Williams at the National Ledger puts my sentiments (along with what I’ve already said here) into words perfectly, and then some.
Despite the fact that presidential candidate Ron Paul can not score better than 3% in any legitimate national poll, his supporters claim he is “the conservative” candidate to beat in the 2008 Republican race for the White House. Despite his less than conservative voting record in congress and his Teddy Kennedy like position on the war on terror in Iraq, his supporters think he is the most “conservative” candidate in the race. How?
He then hammers Ron Paul on the issues (I won’t recount them all here), which is what his supporters insist all of us “should” support. Not I. And I’ll remind you of these sort of votes again, as well.
When you are through studying the views of his supporters, you will find that they have two common values, a strong anti-war isolationist view of world events and a deep love of their money.
At the end of the day, Ron Paul supporters on both sides of the political aisle are driven by only two beliefs and one motivating factor. They are anti-war because they are anti-tax. They do not look beyond the agenda to reduce or eliminate taxes to see the consequences of the decisions they make. They would bring the war on terror abroad right to our own doorstep to save a few tax dollars and that allows Ron Paul to appeal to anti-war voters from the far left and the far right.
Well, as we all know, the extremes on the right and left often converge.

OldGuy, who’s been battling alongside me in the comments for the last few days (thanks again!)
Silky Pony, arguably the most disingenuous self-absorbed opportunist on the planet, has decided that America needs a New New Deal. Despite unemployment at 4.5%, the Dow north of 13,000 and record-setting job growth, the American economy is on the edge of a feevah, and the Breck Girl has the solution - COWBELL.
Well, actually, higher taxes.
John Edwards says if he’s elected president, he’ll institute a New Deal-like suite of programs to fight poverty and stem growing wealth disparity. To do it, he said, he’ll ask many Americans to make sacrifices, like paying higher taxes.
He’ll ask? I suspect he probably won’t.
Following his promise to heal the sick, in 2004, when he stated as a fact that Christopher Reeve would walk again if John Kerry was elected President, he’s upped the absurd unkeepable promise ante…
Like other Democrats, Edwards named his top three priorities as ending the war in Iraq, enacting universal health care and overhauling the American energy system. “Those are three things instantly I would do,” he said.
INSTANTLY, d’ya hear? This guy won’t bother with the whole Congress/legislation thing, but simply wave his magic wand and enact universal health care INSTANTLY.
That this muppet is even in the top tier of Democrat candidates tells you all you need to know about their supporters. Fortunately this ding-dong stands precisely zero chance of ever implementing this warmed-over neo-socialist bunk.
EEJIT.

It’s amazing the lengths to which some hysterical ninnies will go when their fragile “liberal” egos are bruised. Such an earth-shaking scandal, having someone in the military send email saying you’re wrong!
There are plenty more reasons why anti-Jewish thugs love Ron Paul, but this is just a start. From the 110th Congress:
H CON RES 21
BILL TITLE: Calling on the United Nations Security Council to charge Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and the United Nations Charter because of his calls for the destruction of the State of Israel
Final Vote: 411 YEAS, 2 NAYS, 11 “PRESENT,” 8 NV.
Who are those two “nays?” None other than Congressmen Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.
H RES 548
BILL TITLE: Expressing the ongoing concern of the House of Representatives for Lebanon’s democratic institutions and unwavering support for the administration of justice upon those responsible for the assassination of Lebanese public figures opposing Syrian control of Lebanon.
Final Vote: 415 YEAS, 2 NAYS, 15 NV.
Who are those two “nays?” Again, Congressmen Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.
H RES 557
BILL TITLE: Strongly condemning the United Nations Human Rights Council for ignoring severe human rights abuses in various countries, while choosing to unfairly target Israel by including it as the only country permanently placed on the Council’s agenda
Final Vote: 416 YEAS, 2 NAYS, 14 NV.
Who are those two “nays?” You guessed it–Congressmen Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.
Hey, if you hate the Jews, what’s not to love?
Citizens Against Hate has a piece on Ron Paul’s ties to extremism (read it!), and from what I’ve seen on the internet in the last few weeks, they’ve got a good bead on Ron Paul’s supporters. It’s no accident that hate groups (Stormfront, Council of Conservative Citizens, David Duke, the American Nationalist Union, etc.) have latched on to the Ron Paul candidacy.
David Neiwert has more damning words:
It’s important to understand that the conspiracy theories to which Paul subscribes serve very specific purposes for the extremist right. For instance: They believe the IRS should be abolished because the 16th Amendment permitting federal income taxes, like all amendments after the Bill of Rights, was not legitimately passed; real “Patriots” believe only in the “organic” Constitution, after all, which allows them to ignore such annoyances as the 13th and 14th amendments or women’s suffrage.
Or then there’s the “New World Order,” which for the racist and radical represents means the latest permutation in the classic Protocols of the Elders of Zion theory. Abolish the Federal Reserve? That’s another blow against the “Jewish bankers” [link added--Ed.] who secretly control America.
Paul himself doesn’t necessarily believe these things — but the theories themselves are so thoroughly rooted in racial and anti-Semitic animus, often playing the role of providing a thoughtful “academic” face to smooth-talking racists like David Duke, that it’s hard not to hear Ron Paul holding forth on them now and understand perfectly well where those ideas are coming from, even if it’s never acknowledged. Though having seen Paul work the militia circuit in the 1990s certainly gave me a good idea.
And there’s much more there, as Neiwert (who knows those far-right militia groups well) has had his eye on Ron Paul for quite some time.
Here’s another choice quote, this time from the comments at The Liberty Papers.
I see no problem that Don Black donated to Ron Paul’s campaign. In fact I applaud his efforts.
What I do see a problem with are the neo-Zionists supporting Clinton, Giulani, Obama and the other presidential candidates. This support is a danger not only to Americans but to all freedom loving people of the world!
Comment by John Ubele — October 27, 2007 @ 9:46 pm
Just in the time I’ve spent investigating the worst cesspools (even literally) of the internet, I can see exactly why they love Ron Paul. His views enable the racists and anti-Jewish extremists, and often mirror their political views. The irrational fear of the Federal Reserve, the view that the US is a puppet of Israel, the nonsense about a “New World Order,” the extreme paranoia about the Patriot Act and “Big Brother”–these are all things espoused by Ron Paul as well as the extremist far-right, and I’ll detail these completely in further posts.
So is Ron Paul anti-Semitic? Racist? Maybe, maybe not. He sure votes like someone who is, but that may be purely coincidental. Of course, as David Niewert implied, you have to wonder what drives his views. I’m not going to say he is a bigot, though. He just has a hell of a lot of nasty racist supporters.
A final note: I am not doing this because I’m “afraid of Ron Paul.” (Forget that bit of wishful thinking, Paulbots.) That’s not even close. I am disgusted by Ron Paul’s candidacy because he gives a voice to some of the worst elements of society, and he’s doing it under the banner of the Republican Party. This “big tent” of ours isn’t big enough for the sort of filth that follows Ron Paul. Most wouldn’t even consider voting for any Republican candidate otherwise–do you seriously think 9/11 troofers/conspiracy theorists or white supremacists would be voting for a mainstream Republican candidate? I’m sure there are some reasonable people who support Ron Paul right now, but I’ll bet the more they come to know what he’s about beyond the sound bites, the less they’ll support him. In a civilized society, racist scum doesn’t get mainstream representation, especially in a race for the Presidency.
UPDATE: Michael Medved asks pointedly,
Your Presidential campaign has drawn the enthusiastic support of an imposing collection of Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, Holocaust Deniers, 9/11 “Truthers” and other paranoid and discredited conspiracists.
Do you welcome - or repudiate – the support of such factions?
We’ll see if Ron Paul answers. I’m betting he won’t.
