Dear Brian De Palma
You are a jackass. No, you are worse than that. You are George Carlin’s “Seven Words You Can’t Say On Television.” Except for “tits.”
Okay, and “piss.” I’ve heard “tits” and “piss” on television and radio, so you’re five out of seven of the words you can’t say on television.
Unless it’s HBO. Then we get into the realm of things you can’t say on HBO. Like twatwaffle, assmonkey, and bleatasticfucktard.
But I won’t question your patriotism.

In case you missed the news, and I’m sure you didn’t, Brian DePalma has a new movie coming out “exposing” the atrocity committed at Mahmoudiyah. Never mind that the perpetrators have been convicted and sentenced. Never mind that the crime was widely reported at the time. Never mind that those of us that support this war offer no support to these common thugs that rape a 14 year old girl and murder her 5 year old sister. Never mind that we wish worse than death upon them.
And never mind the fact that this type of story is very, very rare regarding the actions of our military in Iraq.
Brian DePalma is just doing the job that the John Kerrys of America just failed to do. Trying to show our military as terrorists no better than our enemies.
One sad sick tale, which, by the way, happens every day in America, is now being used as a canvas upon which the anti-war movement can paint their portrait of the country they claim to love.
Sickening.
Apparently, Brian DePalma never saw the movie United 93. Or 300. Or Blackhawk Down. Or any number of good movies (The Siege, anyone?) that truly inspire the moviegoing public.
Despite my disdain for DePalma, at least I can confidently predict this movie will tank at the box office.

In a similar way that the Catholic Church’s attacks onMartin Scorsese’s Last Temptation of Christ (a film that might have been expected only a modest return on its overblown budget investment) put attendance figures over the top, I hope the tsunami of attacks by the pro war blogisphere on Redacted grows even more intense and widely distributed. It will assure a box office that will be beyond even the wildest wet dream of the greediest Hollywood film distributor. I care not for the success or failure of Hollywood. What I do support is the vision and the mission of the artist, as summed up in De Palma’s own words. “Pictures are what will stop the war…bringing the truth of the Iraq war to the American people.” “One only hopes that these images will get the public incensed enough to get their congressmen to vote against the war.”
Attacks have been citing how much money De Palma will make off the project. I’m sure if big bucks had been his exclusive goal, he could have had his pick from a portfolio of far more lucrative scripts with greater budgets and higher expected returns for him than the modest, independently produced shoestring budgeted Redacted.
Like it or not, the anti-war blogs are doing more to help him than the most expensive media campaign. Note to the “Up America Right or Wrong” crowd: If you immediately drop all the crap you are slinging at Redacted, De Palma and its producer - I guarantee you that it will cut the box office attendance in half. But Noooo, like a doggie on a bone, the pro war guys will not be able to leave this one alone even if they realize that the only product of their defamation will be more big bucks for the left-wing, anti-victory, money-grubbing Hollywood distributors and producers they hate so much. There has to be some kind of self-defeating pathology operating here.

Just replying to Bob Doldt, can you, please, even though a liberal, reply to the substance of the argument, that our military now fighting for us in one of the most despicable hell holes in the world is also one of the most honorable. Every army has its rapists. I would bet there are far fewer rapes by our army personnel, as a percentage of the population, than by even the liberal population here who are too politically correct to fight for their country.
As a war monger, I surely am permitted to say I would love to stomp up and down on De Palma’s conscious body as I tell him how dishonest it is to use atypical behavior to try to characterize the behaviour of our military men and women. WAR IS GOOD when you are trying to right wrongs. You are just another weak liberal De Palma and your movie will surely please the sophisticated (decadent) Europeans who are too cowardly and dishonest to face the danger they are in. We only hope that our citizens here in God’s country will see the light and that you, DePalma, the traitor, will lose your money and your career over this arrogant effort to shape history by turning us all into good little Muslims.
