I Don’t Want My Son to be Stop-Lossed Either

But I understand that its a necessary element of our military. First and foremost is the Nation’s security. Ensuring our security is the job of our Men at Arms. That is what they do. They know that when they sign up and volunteer to stand and be a defender.
Tonight I read this little piece of propaganda that has made it onto the internet. Apparently, Cindy Shenanigans isn’t doing the job effectively enough so there is a new Blue Star mother being used to put forth the progressive’s agenda of hate for the military and all things American. Or is there? This story is straightforward in admitting its fictitious. If its fictitious, then I have to ask myself, what’s the point.
The woman who is allegedly writing this post says she was initially in favor of the war, but has turned against it now that her son is being stop lossed. In other words, as long as it didn’t affect her and her family she felt the war was a worthwhile cause, but now that its affecting her family she no longer supports it.
My son has been stop lossed and his tour has been extended now for the 3rd time. He has been in Baghdad for over a year now and I want him to come home. I want to see him and talk to him. I want to hear his voice. I want him out of that dangerous and violent place. I want those things because he is my son. I check his MySpace page daily just for the reassurance that he’s been online and I can rest knowing he’s okay for one more day. At the same time, I understand that he is a grown man and he made an informed decision to do what he is doing. I could tell he was disappointed about having to stay longer in Iraq each time his tour has been extended. I have jokingly asked him if he wanted me to call his commander and complain. He and I both knew that I was kidding and he laughed. We both knew I was referring to the days when he was very young and I intervened on his behalf in situations. Those days are long gone. They are just a memory and a source of affectionate banter between us now. I would never infantilize my son by doing anything of that sort.
He is not only grown, but he’s been to war and has commanded men on the field of battle. How much more ‘grown’ can you get than that? It would be absurd for me to interfere in his career and it would undoubtedly damage his career if I tried to. It would also send a message to him that I don’t respect his life choices or his ability to handle himself.
This mother is doing that, fictitious or not.
In the article she actually fantasies about shooting her son in the foot to get him out of Iraq. The writing is flowery and has a romance novel quality to it. It is full of the talking points of the left, all the phrases we read in all their writings and hear in all their speeches. Even so, I can believe some of the conversations and the moods. Having my own son in Iraq, I understand that there are good days and bad days. I understand that a son can let his hair down with his mother when he has to be tough with everyone else. As his mother, it should be safe for him to express frustration to me. I fell into the trap of having panic reactions to some of the things my son said to me at first. Fortunately, I had a husband and friends who have experience with war and helped me understand the dynamics that go on when someone is living in that situation.
My husband says that all Soldiers bitch and if they aren’t bitching then there is something wrong. That’s what they do. Its no different than employees complaining about their employer, and most do. I also understand that no one - NO ONE - wants to live in the conditions they are living in. War is hell and the Soldiers know that better than anyone. They do it because for whatever reasons, these young men and women feel a sense of duty to their country. They, most of them, were raised in families that value God and Country, service, duty, honor, integrity, and responsibility.
Unfortunately for our sons, there is a small percentage of our population that feels a duty to serve. So very many just go about their lives without even noticing that we are at war. So the ones who are serving are doing more than their share. I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all. I hate there are so few who are doing all the heavy lifting. I hate that there are so few that they are having to do multiple rotations. I honestly wish we would institute the draft. I can see all kinds of positive results from a draft. Unfortunately, our politicians don’t’ seem to have the guts to take the political heat for doing that. I wish we would fight this war more aggressively so that it would end more quickly and with less blood shed. Again, I think our politicians lack the nerve to pay the political consequences to doing what needs to be done.
There are a lot of things I would like to see done differently. I certainly would like to see my own son out of Baghdad along all the other mother’s sons. I would like to see the fanatical islamists respect our resolve enough to back off and stop their jihad against us. I would like our old media and the left to stop their propaganda war against us. That propaganda war gives encouragement to our enemies and does not encourage more young men to join the military which would take the strain off the ones who are doing the job now.
The mothers of Soldiers who write these kinds of propaganda pieces participate in the undermining of our Troops. They undermine the missions of their own sons. I don’t understand that. If you support your son, then support his mission, support the Troops and encourage others to join the fight so that its not all up to the few who have the courage and sense of duty to do their part.
Each generation has to face evil in one form or the other. Our sons are having to face this. Someone has to stand up and defend our country and defend the Western world. If not me, then who? If not my son, then whose son?

Beth, you wrote an excellent reply to a heinous fabrication!
I typed out a response, but *endstoploss.com* limits replies to 3000 characters. My thoughts would not fit on a bumper sticker, so I’m forced to post them here.
“Leave it to a liberal to taint a serious situation with sensationalism. Your cheap attempt to EXPLOIT any hint of misstep with distorted exaggeration reveals you, the liberal, for the dogs of disdain that you really are.
Enough of the fiction, let’s deal with reality. As a proud uncle of three US Armed Forces volunteers (Army, Marine, Navy), I take great exception to your fantasy.
Do you honestly expect me, as an American, to sit idly by while you trash my country and degrade our reputation with your fictitious nonsense?
The problem with you most of you leftists is that you are belligerent, rude, condescending and display an arrogant lack of regard for any opinion other than one based upon your own self-serving, hypocritical, socialist set of ideals. You elitist frauds are obstructionists who are an integral part of a continuing crisis and not a solution. Go ahead and mock with your lies and deceit, for you will always be a negative force within this world that breed disdain and embellish the future, yet undone, evil deeds of others, perhaps some even done by yourself.
You neo-socialist have attempted to create a climate that inhibits the free expression of pro American ideals and conservative thinking. I will never be seduced by your seductive increase-the-peace-rhetoric. I will never be intimidated by your anti-American trash talk. And I will never be fooled by your lies and deceit. You will never succeed in your vain attempt to manipulate or squelch my thoughts and ideas or my American patriotism.
And for the record, they are not your boys. They are grown men and women who volunteered to serve our country. Leave them alone and let them do the job they volunteered to do.
Today’s liberal is well defined.
Most liberal concepts and implemented strategies (like the propaganda produced from this fictitious fairy tale) come straight from the Communist Manifesto wrapped in the rhetoric of justness and fairness. But, it is you liberals who, for the most part, are too ignorant and unschooled to even realize it.
You, of neo-Marxist left, are relentless in your assault against the pillars of America. If it weren’t so serious, you leftist losers and your utopian ideals would be laughable. Your ideology has been a complete failure. Liberalism’s end result is corrosive to the very nature of the individual freedom the United States of America was founded upon. Again, due to sheer ignorance and a willingness to distort the truth, the average liberal doesn’t have a clear concept on what individual freedom consists of, or how it is properly derived. One thing is for certain, individual rights are not found in the collective sense of socialism. History proves -again and again- that well-intentioned liberal programs, plans and ideas, often lead to disastrous results. Liberalism: a debilitating disease of the mind that renders the backbone soft and the eyes blind with distortion, dances on the fringe of compassion and the jagged border of anarchy. Liberalism’s twisted logic and revolutionary zeal plague America and our cherished institutions. Like a cancer, liberalism threatens to destroy us from within. Liberalism exposes the tenets of socialism, not democracy!
The bitter fruit of liberalism has produced a bumper crop of homegrown traitors. While Islamo-fascists try to cut our neck, the ACLU, the National Lawyers Guild, and other radical left wing organizations -along with you, their miserable minions- are stabbing us in the throat. Liberals openly challenge our elected government, compromise our national security, and strip America of her bed rock Jude-Christian identity. As a whole, you woozy Wiberal’s refuses to squarely face the -at hand- threat of radical Islam and effectively deal with it in a head on manner. No, you want to pretend it is a benign culture difference and is more or less on the same plain as Christianity and all we need to do is be more tolerant, diverse, and broaden our scope of understanding.
The failed policies of liberalism may chip away at our basic foundation, but it enables others, who are far more dangerous, to do much worse – kill.
How can you liberals ignore the ominous face of the enemy and pretend there is not threat?
How can you liberals not know that radical Islam wants you dead?
How can you liberals continue to discredit and trash our military and, in turn, weaken them and America’s future?
Why do you liberals oppose any military effort to combat terrorism?
Hey, for all of you supposed “civil libertarians” out there; libertarian refers to freedom, not despotism and cultural destruction!
The right to protest is one of the cherished freedoms protected by our Constitution. But there is a difference between protesting a point of view and intentional working to disrupt and intimidate those with whom you disagree. The progressive movement attempts to intimidate and instills fear in an attempt to silence all opposing points of view. To them (you), the only good America is a crippled America. That is why you hate our military, our moral foundations, independence and sovereignty, and strength of character. And because of your hate of our conservative ideals, you fringe elements utilize media coverage to stab our troops in the back.
Take all of you burnt out hippies who are still stuck in the sixties: you still cling to the tired mantra that American capitalism is the heart of all our problems and that socialism is the Great Solution. Your cult like dedications to “progressive politics” is actually a substitute for long gone earlier passions. The new “progressive vision” for America is nothing more than a reconstituted concoction of leftist ideology served up in a new repackaged container. We are living in a new century, yet many liberals think it is still the sixties. And, if you go back further, the sixties were derived from the ideology of the thirties. For those who never learned their history, the myth of the 1930s was that there would be a socialist revolution in America. So, the sixties resurrected the thirties, and the nineties under Bill Clinton copied the sixties. I suppose it is a cycle of socialism that runs every thirty years, and with each cycle, the America we once knew becomes diluted.
You liberals are prisoners. You live in a cage where liberal ideas –and only liberal ideas– are expressed. I suppose it is possible for many of you to never meet or listen to anybody outside of your own circle of like minded liberals. And if there is a dissenting opinion raised within your cloistered environment, the person offering that opinion is generally laughed at and mocked for being an eccentric fundamentalist radical throwback from a more primitive time.
In the end, your intolerance is actually a reflection of your loss of clarity; your tolerance of virtually everything and your “anything goes” attitude is not a mark of liberalism, it’s a mark of the degeneration of your ability to judge anything.
The more you on the left scream about racism, homophobia, sexism, bigotry, no war for oil, Bush lied, Cheney/Halliburton, Islam is a peaceful religion, US imperialism, la de da da dick, the more I know that you are nothing more than a parrot in a cage mimicking what you’ve been taught. As such, you are a product of our society. You have been brainwashed since childhood from the left-wing garbage on TV, from what they indoctrinated you with in school, and from the behaviors applauded in the upper institutions of “supposed” higher learning. A victim, you most certainly are.
How did you liberals get so warped in your thinking? Why would a liberal call those who cut off peoples heads and kill our troops and innocent civilians “insurgents” and “freedom fighters” instead of terrorists? Why do you so openly judge and criticize America’s (OUR) elected President, and his Military commanders, but say nothing regarding the women oppressing decapitators? Why are you so outraged over incidents like Gitmo and Abu Ghraib, but say nothing when it comes to the hundreds of thousands that Saddam Hussein tortured, murdered, and buried in mass graves? Why do you hypocritical leftists bash President George Bush for Iraqi casualties, but said nothing when then President Bill Clinton indiscriminately dropped bombs on the Serbian populace? Why does the left continually bash and vilify Christians, but then rush to give Islamists a free pass?
The roots to your demented world view can be traced back some forty years. During the sixties, there was a movement to change the way we looked a deviancy. The left then started to change the meaning of words during the “permissive sixties” so that everything which once deviant is now presented as normal. Now we live in a society that is upside down, inside out. What was once bad is now good and vice versa. Consequently, liberalism has broken down the moral boundaries of our nation and created a state of social disintegration in this country.
Today we face a terrorist enemy who wants to destroy our way of life and kill us. Yet, you demented liberals on the left actually defend and dismiss such evil – worse, the liberal left has the gall to blame us for their hatred. Ultimately, your sedition will set the stage for the complete breakdown of our security. As a result, the great possibility exits that we will miss the road of less blood shed in turn for utter catastrophe and repeat the dark pages of history, again.
History will soon prove that you, the filth pig commie lib, were nothing more than obstructionist to a more free civilized world. Your descendents will look back and reflect upon your life with disdain and embarrassment.”

To shoot her son, eh?
It seems to me that for a mother to write a fictional account like this shows that she has a very disturbed mind.
It also reinforces that the Internet is also a forum for loonies as well as sane folks.

That was fantastic!! Bravo and thank you!
Jay Gaultieri says:
I talked to a mother just last night whose son is a Marine serving in Baghdad. She said she’s sick of the whole war and just wants him to come home. I’ve got someone in my family circle who came home, was told she was done, got a job, bought a house and was looking for a a good guy to settle down and start a family. Surprise, she’s back over there. There’s a guy in Jersey suing so he doesn’t have to back to the Middle East for the fifth time. Years ago I wanted to join the Marines and if I hadn’t messed up my left arm in an industrial accident I might be over there now.
Look, if there was a draft and half a million or more troops were put on the ground in Iraq for a period of ten or fifteen years the war probably could be turned around. That’s never going to happen. We all know it.
So America is left with the situation the way it is. The war in Iraq has dragged on for over four years, and if we are not losing the war we’ve been there way too long to be winning it. Iraq is three different groups of people who don’t like each other cobbled together by the British in 1921 in a region of the world where atrocities have been committed in the name of something Mohammed said or didn’t say or did or didn’t do for over a thousand years. It takes a ruthless dictator like a Saddam Hussein to keep it together.
Beth expresses concern over the way so many people go about their lives like the war isn’t going on, and that’s a very legitimate complaint. But after 9/11 President Bush told the American people to not worry and Big Daddy Bush would take care of everything. So a frighteningly large percentage of the population doesn’t worry about it. They are eagerly watching the latest headlines about Paris Hilton, voting for their favorite on American Idol, and eating their Doritos. The war is background noise to them that they’ve long since tuned out. Even those who support the war don’t seem to want to do much more than put yellow stickers on the backs of their SUVs.
Scot accuses those who are against the war of being aging hippy overly-educated secular communists who want America to be ruled by Islamic theocrats. Well I live in a big East Coast heavily Democratic city where even the Republicans hate President Bush. In one of my jobs I meet with people from across the country and just about all of them are against the war. I don’t ask, they speak about it freely. I’ve never heard anyone say anything sympathetic about Islam being a religion of peace or that they hate America or that they hate capitalism. What they do say is that “Those people were fighting each other long before we got there and will be fighting each other long after we’re gone.” Which sounds bleak but it also just happens to be true.
The disconnect here is war supporters– and there simply aren’t that many of them out there–don’t know or care about Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds, tribal warfare, or sectarian violence. It’s just all about “The terrorists.” If by “terrorists” Scot means Al Qaeda they’ve been hanging out in the western part of Pakistan for 5 or 6 years and I’ve never heard President Bush say a damn word about that area. If he means “Swarthy bearded brown Islamic people who hate America” then he just described almost everyone in the Middle East.
Americans get along pretty good. Most of the rest of the world isn’t like us. Iraq will collapse into chaos when American troops leave. But that’s going to happen anyway. Just as President Bush’s strategy in this war is always more of the same blindly following him results in more of the same: An orgy of bloodshed and horrific destruction taking place in a huge black hole of wasted taxpyer money and lost American lives. Do I have a silver bullet answer? No I don’t because there is none. President Bush does have one for himself: It’s called January 20, 2009. The rest of America isn’t so lucky.

Very good, Beth. Inspiring, actually - and that’s from the father of a currently serving military man.
I’ll recount this short story about mothers from the Left - I’m not hinting that all are like this, but issuing a proviso.
Last year on Mother’s Day, I passed through the Code Pink protest against the war. There were eight ladies standing in front of the White House with a long banner about 50 feet long that read “Mother Against the War”. Stupid me, from the banner I thought they were an organization of mothers with children in the service in Iraq.
But anyway I asked them how many were actually mothers. Two raised their hands. Then asked the two if they had children serving in Iraq - one was a mother of an infant while the other said her son had been in Iraq. I asked her when he’d served there and she sheepishly answered “In 1991″.
I guess what I’m saying is that we have to ask the Left questions and not take what they say on face value. I doubt any real mother would contemplate for even a moment on shooting their son - well, after he’s born anyway.
