On “trophy wives”

I guess since nobody’s cheering the asinine “work the pole” crack from Joe Scarborough, some people have to find something else to slag Jeri Thompson. Now the “trophy wife” meme is going around since Fred Thompson’s detractors apparently have little else to criticize. (Must-read link.)
Just one thing, though–does it also matter that Dolley Madison’s second husband, James Madison, was seventeen years older than she was? Will the dolts who say Jeri’s age reflects on Fred Thompson’s character also question James Madison’s character? Call him “promiscuous?” Comment on Dolley’s cleavage? Call her a gold-digger?

Trophy wife?
How about John Tyler’s second wife, Julia Gardiner Tyler, thirty years his junior?

Trophy wife?
Frances Folsom Cleveland, 27 years younger than Grover Cleveland?

Trophy wife?
It’s rather interesting that self-described “liberals” have such rigid expectations of American First Ladies. Who knew they were such traditionalists? I wonder if they’re bothered by the fact that Jeri Kehn Thompson actually has had a career (and it didn’t even involve pole dancing!). Sleazy hypocrites. Somehow I doubt Jackie Kennedy would be trashed so crudely by these morons for being as glamourous as she was. But you know, Jeri Thompson made the grievous error of marrying a Republican, so she’s fair game with these knuckle-draggers.

I’m so PO’d that Joe even joked about that. I don’t watch him much - but will think twice next time there isn’t anything better on TV. Knuckle dragger for sure! :plugears:

So Fred’s wife is a babe, so what at least no one
will be able to make egg seperators with her face!
Bill says:
I’m guessing it may be only that Fred’s wife makes Hillary look like the hag that she is, outside and in.
Imagine the contrast, with Hill and Bill on one ticket, and Fred and Jen on the other….

Is this politics or high school?
William Teach says:
So much for “liberal tolerance.” I think they prefer the First Ladies nowadys to be shrill shrews who put up with with their husbands filandering, lying, sexual harrasment, and other picadilos.
It really just goes to show that there is no subject that they will not use to bash anyone who doesn’t agree with their insane world view.
I’m surprised anyone even saw Scarborough. Dude went insane after Katrina, and has what, 5 viewers?

OMG, look at the cleavage on Dolly Madison! The scandal!

The spouse wouldn’t run the country.
But the spouse could embarrass the nation (think Heinz),
if the new President allows them to embarrass us.
Joe says:
I’m a liberal and I don’t care if Fred married the trophy wife. Even if it took him 1 marriage to do it. All the power to you, Fred. She probably gives hime the confidence to run for president. If Democrat Kucinich can marry a trophy wife over 30 years younger and six inches taller, than so can Fred. Live and let live I say.

I think the young wife is a good sign — that he’s still plenty vigorous to do the job! :shades:

It’s the blogosphere; therefore, high school.

And that was from her White House bio page! Imagine how she dressed when she wasn’t having an official portrait done! The strumpet!
Beth says:
Bard, yes, he does.
I’m tempted to say “Google is your friend” (what can I say, I’m a smartass), but I’m feeling rather evangelical about it today. :cheese: Besides, it’s a very legitimate question.

A couple of comments:
Those who know would have a “wry smirk” response to the “vigor” comment, while recalling just how absurd the “lazy” business really is. And as for Joe (Scarborough): There is, in Appalachian lore, a response to Jos and his scum-bag mouth. It involves a dry wooden cabin in the woods, a can of gasoline, a hammer, a nail, and a match. As this is a family-oriented site, I’ll say no more and leave the rest to your imagination.

Beth, love this Blog. It’s amazing that Paris gets so much sympathy cause she espouses liberal (or libertine) and Jeri gets trashed cause she doesn’t. I love all those hot smart conservative babes. I would rather have Jeri for prez then “Shillery”
Wirerat says:
Was that “shillery” or “Shrillery”. Sorry bloggers, I am new at this. :swobiwa:
