The Virginia Tech massacre post
First things first: I’m so sorry for the families of those murdered in cold blood by that animal, Cho Seung-Hui. I’m sorry he died so quickly; he deserved much worse. May God bless the souls of those killed and bless their loved ones.
Okay.
Shepaldo Van Susteren is going to drive me batshi’ite crazy. I almost screamed here about it last night, but I didn’t want to be that blogger, with the only thing to say being “Geraldo is a bleatastic farktard!” I’m not on the scene, I don’t want to hear about political wars in the blogosphere about it, so I figured I’d leave it to the news to report the news.
That said, “the news” is ridiculous. Last night, Geraldo said this is “just like” 9/11. Pardon my unsentimental nature, but bullshi’ite. There’s a world of room between “minor incident” and 9/11, and this fits well in the “terrible tragedy” area. Not 9/11, though. Talk about overdramatizing. And if Geraldo weren’t enough, the other two drama queens who comprise Shepaldo Van Susteren have been way over the top as well. As usual. They must have interviewed every Virginia Tech student on campus by now–sooner or later we’ll see “Hi Mom!” or “Send money!” being shouted to the camera by some kid who wasn’t even on campus at the time, with video on YouTube to follow. One of the News Blondes actually said this morning that talking on camera to all these kids is “therapeutic” for them. Oh, for God’s sake. Like the the media is there to help. What chutzpah.
Thankfully, I’m not the only one griping about people’s reactions. One good friend (no names mentioned) is annoyed as hell with the blogosphere politicizing the whole issue and acting as though they were going to uncover the name of the killer from their armchairs. Another said “thank God we at least don’t have to hear about Imus any more.” Me? I’m already sick of the wild speculation from the media, the finger-pointing, the yelps of “who’s going to be fired,” and already tired of hearing the yapping from the gun-grabbers–and I’ve barely read any blog posts about it. But that’s all I’ve got to say about that.
Much, much better: Sigmund, Carl and Alfred’s thoughtful, spot-on commentary on the tragedy, and Jane’s well-aimed (and funny!) skewering of the media coverage.
Me? I’m going to say a prayer for the families, and then take a nap and sleep through this for a few hours.
Thatisall.

I refuse to watch any coverage for at least two more days. The rampant speculation, exploitation of the young students and gun control calls had me about to puke yesterday. I’ll just wait until more facts are known and draw my own conclusions, thank you very much.
As for Jerry Rivers, Shep “They’re dying in there!” Smith and Van Cistern. . . what a waste of pixels and sound waves.

Sorry to ruin your day- but the YouTube videos started within the first few hours; Geraldo showed the face of the wrong student after covering the kids face, telling us he had previously been wrongly identified as the shooter, and saying he wasn’t going to show the poor kids face again (if anyone looked close enough, the url was viewable most of the time); and there is at least one student who live blogged it- and then mentioned how “happy and excited” he was that FoxNews was mentioning his site.

Lilo, I just saw the brother and sister of one of the dead victims talking on teevee, and it was absolutely surreal. It was as though they were talking about a news story about a total stranger getting mugged or something–not about their own sister being murdered.
Don’t people have any respect for the situation or more to the point, their own dead siblings (or parents/sons/daughters/friends/whatever)?
I really hate to say anything about family members, but DAMN. Are the Big Fifteen Minutes THAT important to this generation raised on Springer, Oprah, YouTube, and MySpace? It makes me ashamed to even have a blog because it’s sorta too “out there.” Time’s Person of the Year: Me me me me me on teevee!

I am angry with the Va Tech administration and it’s not because they didn’t lock down the campus after the first two shootings. I think they all should resign because they are liberals like almost everyone who runs a college campus. And liberals don’t believe in having guns in the home or on the campus. A few guns stored in a safe in each building and a few volunteers with the combination could have downgraded the massacre to something less historic. Every campus has a few conservatives on it. Let them volunteer to handle things. You might even find that your campus liberal suddenly starts to like her conservative coworker if she hears someone firing a gun in her building.
We have plans for fires. We have fire drills. I would be totally angry if my child burned up in a fire at school because she didn’t know what to do or where to go. What’s the difference? These poor souls had no where to go and they didn’t know what to do. Would they have liked to know that the oddball professor who doesn’t believe in global warming is in the admin office with a nine millimeter he knows how to use? Or would they feel safer knowing the police will be outside soon?
Campuses across America should employ veterans who know how to use a gun. There are many jobs they can do. If Va Tech had someone like that working in that building and with access to a gun would anyone think it was a bad idea, today? Probably. But they would keep it to themselves for at least a week. And the rest of the country would rejoice.

It becomes hard to defend Fox News from the onslaught now
that they’ve topped-off the other Libs with Geraldo. I can’t watch it. As for Black Monday- Get Strapped.

Haven’t watch a second of the coverage. I heard enough about it from the innertubes. Some twisted monster murdered 32 people. That was all I needed to know. Don’t care about his motives, hardships, etc. 32 people are dead because some monster couldn’t handle his problems. Off himself, but leave everyone else alone.
