And now for something completely different…

I have decided to spend Christmas in South Beach, Miami. I’ve got no family in the US, and I’m bored going to London, so I think I’ll enjoy it here. Waddya think?

I know. Total waste of money, but I’ll bet I have a few good nights on the razz.

    UGH! I’m seething with envy!
The Princess has gone to DC so all I’m gonna do is hang out at my parents’ house with them and my brothers (flying in from Chicago) and get drunk. Christmas drunkenness is always interesting–I haven’t done that in probably ten years.

(But I’d still rather be at some place like the Shore Club.)

Look! Green with envy! –>

Make sure you get a side trip to Coconut Grove in. Coco Walk, and the surrounding area.

While on South Beach there is much to do, places to eat, dance clubs, etc. You won’t be disappointed.

My favorite place when I was there was the News Cafe on Ocean Blvd.

If you decide to wander a bit south down to Coconut Grove, which is an interesting place, DO NOT get mixed up and head west on Grand Ave. About 1/2 mile west of the grove you’ll be in an area where its real easy to get relieved of all your cash, car, and perhaps life.

Seriously, I never go down around Grand Ave unless I’m packing at least a 9mm with a couple of extra mags.

South Beach itself is a fascinating place. 25 years ago it was a wreck, blown out buildings, skells everywhere, not a nice place at all. It had suffered rather badly as a result of the “cocaine cowboy” era in drug smuggling. Its been completely rebuilt and all the past grandeur of its Art Deco era architecture restored. Its worth the trip just to see the buildings.

The people who live there can be another story entirely. Not particularly dangerous or anything, the place is just a rolling freak show sometimes…kinda like Venice Beach California. One of my skydiving friends is a cop down there and the stories he tells are almost unbelievable…had I not been there a few times to see it myself ;->

[...] OK, enough chatter. What’s going on with y’all? Anyone doing anything cool for Christmas? I mean besides Martin, that is (I’m so jealous!). [...]

The grove is kinda boring these days, even on a saturday nite, filled with high school kids wandering around in packs, makiong goo goo eyes at each other. The restaurants never disappoint though.

South Beach is rarely dull, especially in season.

I got tag-teamed: The Christmas Meme | MY Vast Right Wing Conspiracy says:

[...] What I would love to get for Christmas: 1. An Extreme Home Makeover, but not have to be on teevee–or at a more realistic level, for someone to completely organize all the stuff in my house and make it spotlessly clean. Seriously. A maid to come once or twice a week would be nice. 2. I want my car to work. I’m not even asking for a new car (although I’d love one); I just want my car to STOP being a problem. 3. Good health and happiness: for my daughter and all those I love, for my friends, and for those who serve in uniform. (Good health for me would be nice, too.) (If I have to pick material things: a new gun, a digital SLR camera, or money.) What I DO NOT want for Christmas: 1. More car trouble. 2. A tumor/cancer. 3. Violence against Americans and our friends at home and abroad. (Material things again? I guess something I already have. Otherwise, it’s the thought that counts.) OK, five people that won’t kill me for tagging them: Martin (haha!), Vinnie (who will probably kill me anyway, but I don’t care ’cause his will be funny), Merri, Chrissie, and…Jody (so she’ll post something on her blog!). OK, since Martin will be off snarking on celebritards in South Beach and might not get to it…Sandmonkey, ’cause it’s his blog-birthday! (So what if he’s not a Christian?) Happy blog-day, Sandmonkey! By the way, go thank a mailman for all his hard work lately. I know I’ve put my mailman through some back-straining work lately, since I did ALL my shopping online. [...]
