Senator Bill Nelson (D) FL, is branching out. He’s conducting his own diplomacy. With Syria.
I’d argue that this is at least highly disrespectful of the PresidenCY, and arguably constitutes treason, as snappedshot.com note.
These farking Democrats just don’t get it. Next time we have a Democratic President (let’s hope this hypothetical moment is some way off), I think we should send out hordes of Republican politicians to undermine our foreign poicy and allow themselves to be used as political props by our enemies.
Of course, I actually wouldn’t support that. But then, I consider myself an American first, a conservative second.
The likes of Nelson see themselves as liberals first and their nationality transcends nationality; they are Global Citizens, if you will. So they don’t identify friends and enemies, and they can jabber away to anyone, no matter how odious to normal Americans that seems.
The Florida State GOP need to keep a copy of that picture handy.

I understand your frustration and also think that government officials must play according to the rules and must not jump over them. This senator will have to answer some serious questions.
On a broader issue, and without justifying this senator’s ‘independent visit’, do you think that perhaps engaging in talks with Syria (knowing that it is presently weak), giving it some attention and boosting its moral, and encouraging it to divert its path towards a more positive role in the region can help in isolating Iran?

Nelson will be considered brave, worldly, and intellectual. And no one from the Left or the media, nor even the GOP, will hold him responsible, much as they blew off Rockefeller doing the same pre-Iraq war.

I emailed Nelson to let him know that he should support John Bolton’s nomination. His office replied dancing around the issue of support. Martinez’ office, on the other hand, replied to let me know they fully supported him. Guess ol’ Mel gets a brownie point. Still not happy with him.
I’ll need to keep this marked so that next election cycle all the Floridian electorate can know we have Jimmah Carter wannabe.
And benning, I take insult to that closing statement. I’m a native Floridian and I in no way have ever supported liberals. Perhaps you should refine that statement to reference the transplants in Miami/Dade that can’t read a ballot.

Just fishing here, but……………Isn’t there a law in place reguarding this type of behavior. I don’t believe it is ever envoked but should be in these cases. I seem tyo remember Jessie Jackson negotiating the release of somebody, and in doing so he broke this law. Can anyone help me out with this?

Unfortunately it will be another six years before Sen. Nelson, the (cough) “moderate” Senator from Florida will have to answer to the voters. Which will give him actually five years to continue being himself (i.e. definitely NOT moderate) and at best one year to play that role unless the Florida GOP can only come up with a Katherine Harris to oppose him, at which point he can dismiss in year six with the moderate posing. In other words, he’ll have 5 years minimum to cuddle up with Syria, filibuster perceived anti-homosexual judges, etc.
