The Iraq Surrender Group must be obeyed!!

The pressure is on to make the ISG report Holy Writ.

Luckily, the White House are out in front of this, and they damn well need to stay there. The opinions of 9 old men and an old woman are no more likely to be the right prescription than mine. Less so. A camel is a horse designed by committee, and that’s what this report is.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Friday dismissed former Secretary of State James Baker’s appeal that his Iraq recommendations be largely adopted as a whole and said President George W. Bush was considering various proposals for a change in course.

Quite right too. The notion that the Commander-in-Chief is obliged to swallow whole the ideas of an ad hoc committee with no constitutional standing is offensive.

Not to some, however.

“Someone has to get the message to this man,” said Nevada Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, soon to be the Senate majority leader, who has praised the work of the Iraq Study Group which issued its report on Wednesday.

This man? That’s very respectful, and the sort of language that will cultivate the new bipartisanship the Democrats are promising.

Oh, and the message the ISG report conveys, Mr. Reid, is that we are beaten and cannot win in Iraq. I don’t believe that message is accurate, and thankfully neither does my President. Mr. F–king Million-Dollar-Profit-Reid.

The drumbeat has started however and the airy-fairy platitudes of the ISG have already become received wisdom, to be followed to the letter or only doom can follow.

Starting at 8am Sunday, CST, on NBC.

Let’s hope Tony Snow is on MTP, although knowing how this White House has handled such matters in the past, we’ll see Andy Card waffling away as Rahm Emmanuel eats him alive.

Agree or not with the report, but you can’t honestly believe this statement.

Why do people have such a hard time with the idea that politicians may be more qualified for this sort of thing than the average guy on the street. This isn’t elitism or snobbery. Its the understanding that these people often spend a lifetime dealing with the complexities of international relations, economics, etc.

    That’s called hyperbole.

But answer this: why are most of these people qualified to discuss how a war should be conducted? Where are the defense policy analysts? Where are the retired generals or colonels?
Seriously. Leon Panetta? Sandra Day O’Connor? Vern Jordan? Chuck Robb? Ed Meese? It is to laugh!

But of course George W. Bush - failed oilman from Texas - is more qualified than anyone in that group. If only we’d followed his policy these past three years everything would be AOK in Iraq!

Where’s Osama? That’s a question that is not relevant in Iraq, is it? I thought liberals said Iraq and Al Qaeda weren’t connected.

Vernon Jordan runs a farking credit card company. Wars are properly run by the military. Period.

Baker’s a motherfarking shi’ite c**t, and he hates Jews. To even ask the man’s opinion of what to do in the Middle East is offensive. To pretend he’s some sort of soothsayer whose opinions should be treated as absolute truth is laughable, and if you think otherwise you’re a stupid monkeybutt too. Sorry.

Fuck the surrender group. Fuck ‘em.

This war has been run so well - why not leave it to them moving forward?

Well, if you think running the war would be better conducted by the surrender group , you’re dumber than I thought. who do you sugggest runs the war? Nancy Pelosi? ha ha.

    My suggestion:

    End the war.

Wow. So it’s just that easy, huh?

actually wars are rarely, if ever, actually run by the military….
personally, I think the president should get the chiefs together, give them a goal and certina operational parameters andd then shut up and let them do their job.

(this is even more true is, say, the president has never actualy served in any meaningful way)

Of course not, but in order for this terrible situation to end we must all move towards the consensus that the war has failed and it is time to move on.

When a reality-check of the situation on the ground in Iraq is met with taunts of “surrender,” we still have a long way to go.

    LA

Last time we reached a consensus and ‘moved on’, 3 million South Vietnamese were slaughtered. Would 3 million dead Iraqis worry your caring, sharing conscience at all?
