Happy New Year!

Eh, I’ve got nothin’. It’s Amateur Night and New Year’s Eve/Day is a cliché. I don’t do resolutions–if I’m going to quit smoking or whatever, I’ll just do it when I decide to do it. No need to make it a big production. I’d say “let’s hope 2007 is better than 2006″ (actually, I guess I just did, right?) but it’s not like a change in the calendar is gonna somehow change the world. This last year has sucked, for a variety of reasons–but I’m not complaining. Things could always be worse; I/we are American, after all. Those of you who aren’t–sorry. Hey, you could be from some shi’itepit like Saudi Arabia or something, so be thankful.

Anyway, Happy New Year, y’all!

I’m also guessing the Ethiopian media are not cheering for the Islamists as enthusiastically as our own lickspittle terror-lovers, but it’s just a hunch.

If you’re squeamish (and I can’t imagine why any normal human being would be disturbed by the death of Saddam), this is it. If it bothers you, I suggest taking a look at what that monster did to countless thousands–make that millions–of innocents during his regime of terror. This is a hell of a lot less graphic–in fact, the video quality is pretty crappy so to me, it’s not disturbing at all. I’m a little more bothered that this appears to have been shot with a cell phone camera. ;-)

Low class strumpets to spend New Year’s Eve together

The Duchess of York, formerly known as Sarah Ferguson (and to those who knew her well ‘the village bicycle’ - everybody rides it) is going to ring in the New Year with coke-addled moron Kate Moss, aka Mrs. Pete Doherty.

The fact that the former royal has chosen to allow the Queen’s granddaughters Princess Beatrice, 18, and 16-year-old Princess Eugenie, to spend the New Year celebrations with notorious party animal Miss Moss is bound to raise eyebrows at Buckingham Palace.

The Duchess first met Miss Moss at Mr Tang’s 50th birthday party in Bhutan two years ago and was later that year seen with the model at party at the Sketch club.

Photographs showed the Queen’s former daughter-in-law looking tired and slightly worse for the wear with the model hugging her enthusiastically. Friends acknowledge that the Duchess and Miss Moss are likely to spend time together at the bash.

IMPORTANT: Some of our troops who aren’t in the desert need your support, too–the ones who serve at Guantanamo.

A retired military officer and former Green Beret was being interviewed from Guantanamo (he was “visiting” our guys down there). I was stunned with what he reported. The terrorists being held at Gitmo are receiving thousands of “well wishes” from Americans who sympathize with the terrorists and condemn America. Our troops, who are handling very dangerous detail there, aren’t getting much of anything except grief from the terrorists and from their sympathizers.

An update nobody will ever read!

Before I go out and par-tay with my unbelievably shallow new friends here in South FL, here’s a little update - they ALL look down at themselves while dancing, men and women included. I think that tells you what you need to know. It means I can stare at the decent-looking ones I guess, so it has its upside.

These people don’t say “good morning” when they pass you in the hotel, or “thank you” when you hold a door open, because that wouldn’t be cool and you owe them anyway. I held a door open for a chick last night and she said nothing, in fact she stopped in the doorway to talk to one of her friends behind her. I said very loudly as I let the door hit her before walking away, “what am I, the farking doorman?”. She looked at me like I had shot her mother.

The place is full of people who undoubtedly would call themselves liberal. Which is why they are so rude, arrogant and self-absorbed. The barman told me the reason they add 18% to every check is that before, when they didn’t, nobody really tipped and none of the ‘help’ could make any money.

That’s the liberals for you - the only money they are generous with, except when spending on themselves, is taxpayer’s money. When it’s time to put their own money where their mouths are, Enrique and Maria can look elsewhere. The valet looked astonished when I gave him 5 bucks to bring my car around, and not because it was too little!

It’s actually disgusting, they treat the ‘help’ like servants; even their kids order them around like they own them, which makes me puke - what kind of adults will they turn into? They live in a bubble, unaware that the caricature they maintain as the wrap on Republicans (rich, out of touch, racist, money-grubbing) is THEM.

Rant over. Here come the 20 dollar glasses of wine (a 16 oz bottle of water at the pool is 8 dollars!! LOL, it costs me, like, $150 to get drunk!).

Service Members in Iraq Keep Minds on Mission, Hearts at Home for Christmas

There are small signs of the season across Iraq, where thoughts of the friends and loved ones they miss weigh heavier than usual on the minds of U.S. troops. But for most, Christmas is just another day.

“In the back of your mind you think about it, but there are no holidays in Iraq,” said Staff Sgt. Brandon Scott, a 35-year-old from Woodbridge, Va., and the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, which is part of the Army’s 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

A 16-year veteran of the Army, Scott said he was spending his third Christmas in four years away from his four children. “We don’t really have time for Christmas,” he said.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have just heard in the Gospel the message given by the angels to the shepherds during that Holy Night, a message which the Church now proclaims to us: “To you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger” (Lk 2:11-12). Nothing miraculous, nothing extraordinary, nothing magnificent is given to the shepherds as a sign. All they will see is a child wrapped in swaddling clothes, one who, like all children, needs a mother’s care; a child born in a stable, who therefore lies not in a cradle but in a manger. God’s sign is the baby in need of help and in poverty. Only in their hearts will the shepherds be able to see that this baby fulfils the promise of the prophet Isaiah, which we heard in the first reading: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder” (Is 9:5). Exactly the same sign has been given to us. We too are invited by the angel of God, through the message of the Gospel, to set out in our hearts to see the child lying in the manger.

God’s sign is simplicity. God’s sign is the baby. God’s sign is that he makes himself small for us. This is how he reigns. He does not come with power and outward splendour. He comes as a baby – defenceless and in need of our help. He does not want to overwhelm us with his strength. He takes away our fear of his greatness. He asks for our love: so he makes himself a child. He wants nothing other from us than our love, through which we spontaneously learn to enter into his feelings, his thoughts and his will – we learn to live with him and to practise with him that humility of renunciation that belongs to the very essence of love. God made himself small so that we could understand him, welcome him, and love him. The Fathers of the Church, in their Greek translation of the Old Testament, found a passage from the prophet Isaiah that Paul also quotes in order to show how God’s new ways had already been foretold in the Old Testament. There we read: “God made his Word short, he abbreviated it” (Is 10:23; Rom 9:28). The Fathers interpreted this in two ways. The Son himself is the Word, the Logos; the eternal Word became small – small enough to fit into a manger. He became a child, so that the Word could be grasped by us. In this way God teaches us to love the little ones. In this way he teaches us to love the weak. In this way he teaches us respect for children. The child of Bethlehem directs our gaze towards all children who suffer and are abused in the world, the born and the unborn. Towards children who are placed as soldiers in a violent world; towards children who have to beg; towards children who suffer deprivation and hunger; towards children who are unloved. In all of these it is the Child of Bethlehem who is crying out to us; it is the God who has become small who appeals to us. Let us pray this night that the brightness of God’s love may enfold all these children. Let us ask God to help us do our part so that the dignity of children may be respected. May they all experience the light of love, which mankind needs so much more than the material necessities of life.
