I Am a Bush Conservative

AJ Strata:
Bush Conservatives not only believe in Reagan’s 11th commandment to not speak ill of fellow conservatives - we live it. From the Gang of 14, to Harriet Miers, to Dubai Ports World and to the immigration issue - there has been a brand of Republican which eschewed the 11th commandment. So let the Republicans be defined by that group - Bush Conservatives will be defined by their antithesis. Bush conservatives are not afraid of the word ‘compromise’. They despise the word ‘failure’. If there is a good idea, we do not care what party gets credit - we care that the good ideas get enacted. It is not Party uber America anymore.
Oh, HELL yes.
Frankly, I am sick and goddamned tired of conservatives–or as Squiggler calls them, the “neo-right”–invoking the name of Ronald Reagan when they attack other Republicans and any time they take a stand. It’s kinda like Godwin’s Law, in a sense–you can’t just throw out a name and assert moral authority, you have to back it up with facts and reality. Or alternatively, you could (I do) call it blasphemy. None of these “neo-right” types have anything to do with Reagan, in either deed or words. Reagan wasn’t an angry man, he was certainly no pessimist, and he did NOT violate his own 11th Commandment. These people are Buchanan Conservatives, if anything; not Reagan Republicans. Similarly, they like to say Bush is a “Rockefeller Republican;” believing, like leftists, that naming someone makes things so. (Of course, there’s plenty written about the similarities between ideological extremes.) Keep calling Iraq a “quagmire,” and it is one. Keep calling Bush a “Rockefeller Republican,” and he is one. Right.
A.J. Strata calls us Bush Conservatives, and that’s about right. We’re also Reagan Conservatives–or at least as Bush Conservatives, the reincarnation of Reagan Conservatives. I suppose it’s because of the medium itself that the blogosphere is so heavily concentrated with loud-mouthed, short-sighted extremist types. All too often–daily, if I’m not extremely selective with the blogs I read–I just want to separate myself altogether from the Stupid Blogosphere and turn off the lights at MVRWC. It’s good to see that more of “us” are speaking up.
I’m still very, very angry at the Buchanan Conservatives/neo-right/cannibals/whatever you wanna call ‘em. It is THEY who I blame more than anyone for the GOP/conservative loss in the election. I suppose it’s irrational to blame them first, but they are the ones with whom I have the most contact, if you will, or at least the most in common (in that we are bloggers). They worked for over two years, slandering everyone on their own side whenever there was a point of disagreement. How the hell did they think the media wouldn’t lap that up? Dissension within the conservative ranks? A gift to the liberal media! And as a result, rather than putting real pressure on those who needed it, they simply allowed the left’s sound-bite slogans, “culture of corruption” and “pork-loving Republicans” to penetrate the usually-disengaged voters’ minds. How often did the media talk about the DEMOCRATS having a culture of corruption? How often did the media talk about the well-known fiscal irresponsibility of the Democrats? Hmmm…never? Not even on “Faux” News. Voters saw the Democrats as the answer to corruption and overspending? Seriously, how the hell do these cannibalistic conservatives think that happened? The media didn’t just cook that up themselves, you know.
For now, what’s done is done. We lost. For the next two years, we can either wallow in negativity and self-immolation and continue to lose, or we can look for positive solutions and support those who reflect our ideals. You people want Reagan redux? Start f’n acting like it.

Barry says:
I disagree. Bush Conservatives have lost it all- from a Congressional majority to the war in Iraq.
They never once wielded power effectively. They never acted as though they were numerically superior. They tried to make nice. And minority Dems kicked their asses.
Bush Conservatives nominated Harriet Miers. Bush Conservatives wanted the Dubai deal. Bush Conservatives want ‘guest workers’ and a ‘path to citizenship’.
And Bush Conservatives have failed to prosecute the war in Iraq with the ferocity required.
So be a Bush Conservative if you like. Count me out.

Barry, Can I ask you as to the Dubai Port Deal . did it give you any pause that the military was supporting it but we refused to listen. In fact that Republicans put a rider on a bill to finance the troops to prohibit the deal knowing Bush couldnt veto it. I mean the freakin Ambassodor from Dubai had barely testyfied. Why because for votes. DIdnt seem to help. In all it was a Democractic type politcal move to me. I would have loved for us to have discussed that more but we were forbidden.
Just like on immigration there are democractic like sheniggans with hearings that are a mockery of the process. Hearings that Tancredo told the President not to come too. Why couldnt the House of Represenatives worked to see if there could be agreement between the factions? Why? Why? was national debate pretty much stopped
All I know at the end of all this because I supported Bush’s version of immigration regorfI was banned from forums and even from commenting on conservatives sites. Why? I never banned anyone that was a Tancredo type person it it. Is this where we are going as conservatives.
Why are great esteemed Conservative Senators like Lindsey Grahmn of SC called RINOS. Why is Sen Martinez that has a 100 percent American Conservative Union rating called a RINO. Why was my email full of this junk all the way into Septemebr when we should have attacking the Dems? Why?
Talmadge East says:
First of all I think “neo-right” is totally out of line as “neo” indicates new and the Buchanan win of the GOP has been around for a long time. Beyond that, Bush has failed Goldwater Republicans. Now, form what I infer form your post, the GOP should just act happy and, form the original conservatives point-of-view, allow the party to slump into mediocrity. I am not saying this wouldn’t be effective, but to say that conservatives shouldn’t critique each other for partisan gains is obviously conceding any moral high ground and saying that principle is not important, winning is the only thing that matters.
Larry says:
I would like to see the, “fouler mouth rant.”
Beth says:
Talmadge, “neo-right” isn’t my term, mine is “cannibals” or “Buchanan conservatives.” I have as much respect for them as you probably have for the barking DU moonbats on your side who lurrrrve MoveOn and Ned Lamont and despise Rahm Emmanuel/James Carville. Look who won–the Rahm Emmanuel/James Carville Democrats. And the jackasses like those at Firedoglake, the DU, Kos, etc., are calling for their heads already, even though they’re now in the majority! Guess which side isn’t going to do things they hate (like cutting taxes, for example)? Guess who will try to raise the minimum wage? The Democrats! Aren’t those things that FDL/Kos/DU wants? Of course they are.
And like the looney moonbats on the left, our looney moonbats are too stupid to see that we DID get some things we wanted when we had the majority–lower taxes, two stellar SCOTUS justices, the Patriot Act (which the Democrats will likely allow to expire–thanks for helping to elect them, Barry!), and a LOT of other things. But no, that’s not enough for spoiled brats. It has to be EVERYTHING their way, and to hell with the vast majority of the country (those who oppose conservatism plus those who are willing to compromise on occasion, and wait until the time is right).
FARK THEM.
And fuck anyone who calls himself a conservative and still doesn’t get it. I always thought conservatives were supposed to be the adults, but I guess I was wrong. Like I always say, there’s little difference between the extremes on the right and left. Both are immature, demanding, loud-mouthed, and delusional; neither side can be trusted, despite their insistence that they’re “the base.” Bullshi’ite.
Barry: I hope you Buchanan conservatives enjoy irrelevance. As for me, I’ll be working to elect conservatives in 2008 while you spend the next two years doing the Democrats’ job for them. Again. Thanks for nothing!
Gimme a farking break. That’s not “Bush conservatives,” pal. Don’t even come around here talking shi’ite about the war in Iraq. Clearly, you’re out of your element. Besides, it’s your allies who are getting wobbly, not Bush, nor any of the rest of us. Look around, pay attention.
Beth says:
Larry, yeah…it started that way, but I want people to actually read the post, and the Buchanan Conservatives/cannibals tend to get a major case of the ass when they see bad words. I’ll keep the foul-mouthed stuff in the comments, at least for this post.
JH: Check the Victory Wing link if you want a banner and a blogroll!
jh says:
Thanks I am adding that banner today. All I know is this is that I am sick of this. Somehow even though I am pro life, anti gun control, hawkish, for tax cuts, because I might differ with the talking heads and the blogs I am some RINO because I might differ at ad on immigration policy. What? Good grief I am not kicking anyone out and I supect done of these folks sweats there asses off on hot Louisiana summer days going door to door for Republcans.
Time to end the BS and win in 08. Learn how to be civil to each other in the party

I feel the same way. Two years of bitching and back stabbing and now they want to blame Bush. If the fringe right wants to know who lost this election they need to go look in a mirror.
They bitch about fiscal conservatism but how much help were they when Bush tried to reform Social Security? If they had put anywhere near the time and energy into supporting that they did into treating Miers like crap, having a cow over Dubai and refusing to even consider compromise on immigration, maybe something would have been accomplished.
How could Bush be effective with this constant back seat moaning and whining from people who would never be able to win an election on their own? Never. Buchanan could not even get 2% of the vote the last time the crazy bastard ran.
And now when they hear that Martinez got the job at RNC their knee jerk reaction is to scream because he is HISPANIC…never mind the fact that his conservative rating is about 100%, oh no it is all part of elPresidente’s plot to turn us into North Mexico. Paranoid, bigoted and delusional and completely oblivious to the fact that they got whipped in the last election in large part because they do not know when to STFU.
Folks, we are in a war. Bush is the CinC, we do not need all this prissy grandstanding from people who do not represent a majority and can not win without the rest of us.
Beth says:
TERRYE! Exactly! Exactly, exactly, exactly!
Excellent point about Social Security, too! Where the hell were they?

Let’s change that, shall we? How about digging this, or this, just to start here? (I won’t submit my own stuff to digg.) DEFINITELY digg this. [...]
Terrye says:
Where were they? They were making fun of Harriet Miers’s eye makeup or worrying about Bush selling our ports to AlQaida or fretting that Jorge Bush was cooking up a secret plan to give New Mexico and Arizona back to Mexico. After all there are two kinds of people:
1} the kind that knows a guest worker program is a part of Satan’s plan to wipe out the white race.
and
2} Bad people who think that compromise is something adults have to do from time to time if anything is ever to get accomplished.
Talmadge East says:
I am not saying that they are completely pure themselves, but wouldn’t the Buchanan wing on the party be amiss if they thought the party was not espousing conservative values and principles and didn’t point that out.

By all means, Terrye, feel free to provide evidence in the form of links to back up your claims.
Otherwise, I’m going to fisk your idiotic comments, on this very blog, and you can sit back with jaws agape as you find your vapid idiocy crumble in front of your ever-widening eyes.
Beth says:
Vinnie, huh? Come on, you know as well as anyone that most bloggers never bothered with Social Security reform because it’s just too complicated for them, whereas it was easy to attack Harriet Miers and babble about “Jorge Arbusto” and “guest worker = amnesty.” The blogosphere is full of that ridiculous bullshi’ite. And Social Security is just one example of issues that have gotten ignored by people (as you know!) who you’d think would give a shi’ite. And now, they’re running around bitching about Bush because of the war?! Now some of ‘em are acting as reflexively Bush-deranged as the idiotarian Left; Bush can do nothing right in these people’s eyes, because of the guest-worker plan and Harriet Miers. They’re idiots.
Talmadge:
Who said the GOP has to be one flavor of conservative? The problem is, they don’t seem to get that we’re a coalition of people with generally shared interests, but not ALL shared interests. They expect the GOP to represent THEM and THEM ONLY. I know I can’t get my way all the time, so if I have to give on some issues, that’s life. Sessions/Shelby/Bonner represent my interests well, but they don’t represent the interests/values of say, a NYC or Boston Republican. At the same time, northeastern Republicans are way left of me, and their elected representatives reflect that. Too bad for me, but I can’t vote for (or against) them. Apparently these “Buchanan” (a bit of an overstatement, but not by much) conservatives forget that not ALL Republicans are just like them and that they will never get everyone in the GOP on board with their views (especially when they’ve made themselves irrelevant by staying home on election day, voting third party, and/or refusing to do anything but bitch and say stupid shi’ite like “Jorge Arbusto” like a stoopid Kossack).
Of course, you knew that, didn’t you? (I know you aren’t the same as the “Democrats” at the DU or Daily Kos, nor would you likely be inclined to support some of the clowns in your party over someone like, I dunno, Lucy Baxley.)
Terrye says:
Vinnie:
If I need to produce links for this obvious fact then what is the point? If I sais the sun rose in the east would you threaten to fisk me {shudder I am so scared} if I did not produce a link to prove my point?
Are you honestly going to sit there at your little computer and provide me with links which in turn will indicate that self styled conservatives actually did put as much time and energy into supporting Social Security reform as they did into insulting Miers or having a cow over the guest worker program? Nonsense.
They complain about fiscal responsibility but when it comes to taking a stand they were a lot more interested in attacking their president than in backing him up. And then of course after helping to cripple the man politically they complain about losing the election. Well what did you people think was going to happen?
