Boehner elected as House Minority Leader

Tags: , , ,

Via Robert Bluey at Human Events:

Rep. John Boehner (R.-Ohio), the current GOP majority leader, was picked by the caucus this morning to be minority leader. Boehner defeated conservative Rep. Mike Pence (R.-Ind.) for the post.

As you know, I preferred Pence (as did most of the conservative internets, including Human Events), but it’s OK. Boehner is an experienced leader with solid conservative credentials, as Pence himself has said. Maybe John Shaddegg will provide the “new blood” that’s needed in the leadership. We shall see…

UPDATE: Roy Blunt got Minority Whip (just announced on Fox News on teevee). :sigh: Well, we tried. Congratulations to both John Boehner and Roy Blunt. Now let’s work on getting back the majority, shall we?

UPDATE 2: Boehner’s race wasn’t even close:

The vote tally was 168-27 with one vote for Texas Rep. Joe Barton.

UPDATE 3: The National Journal’s Hotline reports Blunt saying:

Under this Republican leadership, the job of the Minority Whip will no longer be to go to the House floor every day and lose. Instead, each time we hold our team together and force the Democrats to vote like Democrats, we’ll be taking one more step toward recapturing our majority in 2008.

The vote for Blunt was 137 to 57, according to The Corner.

UPDATE 4: Adam Putnam wins over Jack Kingston (100-91) the chair of the House Republican Conference. Stay tuned at Tim Chapman’s blog for continuing updates on the remaining leadership races.

Just dashed off an angry email to my Representative. Asked him if he thought, “more of the same” was a smart strategy for bringing back a Republican majority. Farookin’ idiots!

Funny that both Dems & Republicans chose ‘more of the same’ from all the options.

Guess we’d better hope that the Dems really screw up for the next couple of years.
