Now that’s some fine German engineering

Check out this collection of oddball “inventions.” This chopsticks one isn’t a bad idea, especially for people who aren’t accustomed to using chopsticks, I guess. Or maybe for people who just can’t manipulate them. Some of the others, though…well, I guess where there’s a need, someone will fill it, no matter how banal that “need” is.

In some Robert Heinlein novel, there was a reference to “choptongs” which inspired me, when my son was very young, to rig something using a ponytail elastic and a rolled up matchbook cover. Now there is a molded plastic gizmo on the market, which I encountered at some stir-fry franchise, designed to do the same job.

Note that the unit in the picture is actually backwards, and will prevent the user from learning correct handling. Choptongs should be sprung apart at the top, and operated by squeezing the sticks together.
