I can already feel myself being farked around

Flying has been a major PITA since 9/11. Some of it is understandable, some a result of the idiotic Democrat-led decision to make the security personnel Federal employees (and therefore hopeless DMV maroons closing the stable door after the horse has bolted).
I’m flying to London in October, and California in November. And it seems likely that I am going to be farked around by TSA dingbats confiscating my shampoo, taking my nailclippers and examining my shoes.
To make matters worse, the ignoramuses negotiating the USA/EU flying rules can’t make a deal.
It’s depressing that our numbskull overLords can’t deduce that what we are looking for is PEOPLE not THINGS. My cologne will never hurt anyone, in my hands, but in Osama’s hands the same could not be said. Use the El Al model, and PROFILE. It isn’t difficult.

well you can check your bag with the shampoo and nail clippers shouldn’t be a problem anywhere unless you’ve got a set for working on cattle (unless you’ve got a jerk running your local airport office, which does happen.) Your shoes, they’ll probably have to be put through the machine, although no one knows why, or even why they only need to be in machines in the U.S.
Anymore, I hate going to work, being at work is still good, it’s the going that sucks. Try not to think about it, that’s my advice.

The title of this post kinda turned me on.
I’ve flown 6 flights (3 flights back and forth) since the shampoo rule, and now the airlines are bitchin’ because pretty much everyone with hygiene has to check at least one bag. I think they’ll be easing up on the rules, if not eliminating them entirely soon; at least I heard that mentioned.

Well, there was the pregnant Irish woman whose scumbag Palestinian boyfriend put a bomb in her carry-on. El Al found her by the standard did-you-pack-your-own-bags line of questioning, mind.
Bill says:
Amen sister!
I’m happy to say I have only flown once since 9/11, and that was about 3 weeks later. It’s not that I’m afraid of the terrorists. To the contrary, I am afraid of the airlines, and their breathtaking ability to fuck up the simplest things.
When I was living in California, I found that my annual trip to a convention in Las Vegas consumed about 11 hours of travel, with the commute to and from the airport, parking, hassling with the baggage claim on return, etc. On the other hand, from where I was living, I could drive it in about 9 hours. That was pretty much the end of my flying, and that 11 hour figure predates the “increased security”, so it would only be worse today.
This year, I drove again, even though I am living in Atlanta. I did the math, found that there were no very good air fares, and that even with gas at about $2.70 a gallon at the time, the tax deduction for business mileage would pretty well cover the real cost of gas. And I would not need cabs or a rental car in LV.
Of course, I did incur almost 5 days of driving, but I enjoy that, most of the time. I like this country, and I like to drive through it.
Anyway, I’m in no rush to head for any airport.
