Riposa in pace, Oriana Fallaci

My friend Robinik has told me that the great Oriana Fallaci has died.
A non morire rimangono le tue parole, la rabbia e l’orgoglio che hai saputo donarci.
Questo Blog è da oggi a lei dedicato.
(Very loosely translated: Your words will live on through the rage and the pride that you have shown us/given us. This blog is dedicated to you today.)
Given the Pope’s brave remarks just this week about Islam and jihad, which has Muslim leaders fuming (when are they not?), it has been heartening to see that Fallaci has had an obvious impact on his thinking.
Stefania at Free Thoughts writes:
Oriana might have died. But her ideas and mission, in different tones, however will always live and there will be new Orianas of course. Islamic fundamentalists and their European servants should be aware of that.
Rest in Peace, warrior Oriana. The absolute majority of Italians who admired you, is hoping now you’re in a better world.
And that warrior is admired the world over. Oriana fought through her illness to her final days, sounding the warnings that precious few others dare to call. Oriana Fallaci was a rare human being–raw, brave, unafraid of criticism, fiercely fighting for the principles of freedom. Provoking umbrage throughout the world and especially in Europe, she raged against the creeping death of Islamicization in Europe and its threat to the free world. Whether one agrees with her position or not, one must admire her passion and sheer will.
Riposa in pace, Oriana Fallaci. You may rest now, knowing that you made a difference in the world and your legacy will live on.

Thanks, Beth, for the link.
She was a great woman, and in addition a good woman, and she is in my prayers.
I love Italian women. They just plain kick ass.

This is really sad news.
If we win, she will be remembered as one of the titans who met the threat head on, when others looked away in fear or cowardice.
But at least if we lose, she will not be hated. Nor villified. Nor called an example of the decadence of the West. She will merely be blotted out of history. She and her ideas and her words will never have even existed.
So I guess that’s win-win, right?

Arrrgh. That came out snarky against Oriana. Not what I was going for.
