Email from Miller Brewing Co

I wrote a short email bemoaning Miller’s support for a march in favor of illegal immigration. They responded:

Thanks for contacting us.

Miller Brewing Company does not support illegal immigration or any other unlawful act. We do support a public policy discussion that will lead to a clear path to legal naturalization for people who meet the requirements for U.S. citizenship. We also oppose any legislation that would unfairly
and unjustly seek to constrain immigration.

Miller was founded 151 years ago by a German immigrant, FrederickMiller. And today, we are part of an international company with employees from around the world. We support the free movement of people, labor, goods and services in the global economy with appropriate protections for the rights of individuals and families, the security of nations, and the diversity that contributes to a rich and productive society.

Miller is active in helping immigrants learn how to become legally naturalized citizens of the U.S., through programs like the Miller Lite Immigration Forum in Texas and support for a recent immigration convention in Chicago. We have a long history of proudly supporting many national and local Latino organizations throughout the U.S.

We appreciate your interest.

So there.

What a steaming pile of unmitigated horseshi’ite!
I was founded 52 years ago by an Irish immigrant. I intend to have a long history of supporting brewers other than Miller.

Why you should boycott Miller Beer products

Aside, of course, from it tasting bad that is. It’s not just that they, in what looks like a form letter that they’re sending out to those who complain, admit to providing “support for a…

I just went out to buy some beer to celebrate the holiday weekend. Guess what! I didn’t buy my usual Miller Lite. I instead gave my business to Busch (Budweiser). I am a latino, but I am an AMERICAN first. I am sick and tired of those people who don’t care if they are selling out our country. Go ahead be open border. This is one statement I can make. “I WILL NOT BUY MILLER, EVER AGAIN”.

I’m sick of this ‘we’re a nation of immigrants’ crap. By and large any immigrant that came to this country in previous migrations did so under the laws or regulations that existed at the time. To use that nugget to justify illegal immigration today is idiotic. I can promise to not buy any of their products.

I am South African - this is standard fare for SA Breweries that now owns Miller. They set themselves up on the side - they believe - of goodness and truth and then cleverly support apparent underdogs causes because - and this is the key assumption - they believe the underdogs will triumph and they will be seen as the company that supports the cause.

It is absolutely Machiavellian - SAB owns companies in China too, but of course, there is no supporting the purported underdog there because it is not in their business interest.

THE ONLY THING TO DO IS TO SWEAR TO YOURSELF THAT YOU WILL NEVER AGAIN DRINK ANYTHING CREATED BY SAB. Perhaps a list of required to discover, besides Millers, exactly what they brew.

Miller’s email response to me was a bit different. They say they didn’t sponsor the march and they didn’t authorize the use of Miller’s name by the marchers. Maybe the heat is becoming uncomfortable for them.

    Thanks for contacting us.

We did not sponsor this march, and we did not authorize the use of our
trademarks in association with the event. We certainly do not support
illegal immigration, but we do support sensible reform of immigration law.

    We appreciate your interest.

The founder of Miller Brewing (quote by Romero) came to the US “LEGALLY” in 1854. He brought with him skills and $9,000 in gold (today worth –$204,545).

He did not come to the US with the intention of living off the American Taxpayer. 152 years ago there was no welfare state in the US. Miller came here with the hope of contributing to the American economy and advancing his fortune.

This Romero dude should be fired for disseminating misinformation. Most certainly the founder of Miller would reject their current PR program. It goes against everything that Frederick Miller believed in. This man was a law-biding American.

It is truly disgusting to see how this organization has prostituted itself for personal greed. Is there no limit to the pandering of American Business to grab market share? Even to the destruction of our way of life?

We need to boycott this company and any other that places money above our legal system, country’s best interests, and the American people who do contribute to our economy. We need to get the message out to businesses that they are the ones who are creating this illegal immigration invasion…that Americans are not as stupid as they think we are.

I thought you’d be interested in Miller’s official position on this topic.

Miller Brewing Company has never supported illegal immigration and we have always supported the full enforcement of current U.S. laws.

Miller did not sponsor the Labor Day immigration march held in Chicago.

Going forward, Miller will closely review all requests for support from community and charitable organizations to ensure that we are not indirectly funding or associating our name with advocacy efforts on the immigration issue.

We plan to stick to the business of brewing, marketing and selling great beer.

The Miller reply is indeed a bunch of crap. Note that they avoid th eillegal word. It was used once.

Good idea a nation wide boycott for all their products.

Been an MGD drinker for many years. In reality I prefer the taste of several of the beers from local micro-breweries. The local beers are more expensive but from now on I will bite the bullet and go with the beer I like better. You don’t suppose Miller hires illegals to get cheaper labor?
