I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often

August 31, 2006 — An enraged Connecticut lawyer leaped through the window of the house next door and plunged a knife into his neighbor’s chest a dozen times - after being told the man had molested his 2-year-old daughter, police said yesterday.

Patent-law attorney Jonathon Edington, 29, turned vigilante after receiving a phone call Monday evening from his wife - who was away on vacation with their daughter - telling him that the neighbor, Barry James, 58, had been sexually abusing the little girl.

Here’s the neighbor:

Neighbors, however, said James - who lived with his parents - had problems with alcohol, shouted obscenities at neighborhood children and even went outside in the nude.

“There have been battles with them over the years - mostly over drinking - and he has been known to walk around in his yard without clothes on,” said one neighbor, who would not give her name.

Sick bastard. I hope the dad doesn’t go to jail; I’d say “temporary insanity” would apply here. (Although I personally don’t think it’s “insanity,” except in a legal sense.)

Too bad the the other guy wasn’t a lawyer. I love lawyer on lawyer violence.

Seriously though, I hope this guy doesn’t have to go to jail. We need more people like him.

While I want to whole heartedly agree that he probably got what he deserved there is still the fact that the only “evidence” presented was the word of a 2 year old. From my understanding that was the only thing that prompted the telephone call to the husband. Did the neighbor actually do it? Based on his previous actions and encounters with the neighbors probably but I do not think it wise to blanketly condone the father’s actions (though as the father of a duaghter myself I would wonder that I might react the same way).
