If Muslims want sharia, they should live somewhere else

Like…the moon? OK, I kid. Sorta. Or how about a parallel universe?
Last Tuesday, after a 90-minute meeting with John Prescott, the deputy prime minister, to discuss the challenges of extremism and foreign policy, I emerged and was immediately asked by the media whether I agreed that what British Muslims needed were Islamic holidays and sharia (Islamic law). I thought I had walked into some parallel universe.
Sadly this was not a joke. These issues had apparently formed part of the discussion the day before between Prescott, Ruth Kelly, the communities minister, and a selection of “Muslim leaders”. I realised then that it wasn’t me and the media who were living in a parallel universe — although certain “Muslim leaders” might well be.
So says Shahid Malik, a British Labour MP who happens to be Muslim himself. “Parallel universe,” indeed. How dare anyone ask for (or demand) a wholesale change to everything Britain and the west stand for? Of course, we know that’s precisely what Islamists want–to have the world living under Islamic law–but to expect that the British would just give it to them as some kind of idiotic “tolerant” concession is ludicrous. Or at least I should hope it seems ludicrous to the British people (I’m quite sure it does).
When it comes to sharia, Muhammad ibn Adam, the respected Islamic scholar, says: “It is necessary by sharia to abide by the laws of the country one lives in, regardless of the nature of the law, as long as the law doesn’t demand something that is against Islam.” It is narrated in the Koran that the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “It is necessary upon a Muslim to listen to and obey the ruler, as long as one is not ordered to carry out a sin.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, no 2796 & Sunan Tirmidhi).
Thankfully, this man is in a position to be heard, although I can imagine he’s saying this at great personal risk. Unfortunately, this guy is in a similar position:
When Lord Ahmed, the Muslim Labour peer, heard my comments — I said essentially that if Muslims wanted sharia they should go and live somewhere where they have it — he accused me of doing the BNP’s work. He is entitled to his opinion. However, a little honesty, like mine, in this whole debate might just restore trust in politicians and ease the population’s anxieties.
Lord Ahmed? He doesn’t believe British freedom should be preserved? I suppose working within the democratic system is preferable to trying to force Islamic law, but shouldn’t support of democracy be sort of a requirement, at least? Whatever.
This is what I don’t get. If Islamists want a world ruled by Islamic law, and aren’t content to just go live in the countries (hellholes) that are under Islamic law, haven’t they considered what an Islamic Britain might be like? They presumably come to free countries so they can live in a prosperous, modern society because it’s better, more comfortable, than “back home.” Doesn’t it occur to them that just maybe they live like dogs “back home” because of the culture, the archaic political systems under which they live? Why the hell would they want to spread that disease to places that are healthy societies? It’s not the weather in the Islamic world that makes it diseased; look at Israel–a modern, wealthy nation surrounded by corrupt, oppressive regimes. That includes Iraq, by the way–the Islamists there are who are keeping Iraq from being the oasis in the desert that it could be. Even Turkey, an officially secular nation, isn’t so great; when you get outside the more modern cities the influence of Islamic law is palpable. Women generally don’t drive, they’re treated as second- third-class citizens, and they have “virginity control exams,” of all things.
So people leave those places for a free society, yet the extremists want to turn the free societies into the pits of hell that their homelands are. And still, MP Shahid Malik is a rare voice, as evidenced by the publicity received for his statement that those who want sharia should leave. Frankly, you’d think that in a country that values freedom and democracy, such a statement would be commonplace. Clearly, political correctness and postmodernist worship at the altar of “diversity” and “tolerance” is bringing them–and us–closer to just the opposite. Islamists want to dismantle everything the free world stands for, and the politically correct appeasers will let them do just that.
Be sure to see Hotair’s clip of Melanie Phillips, author of Londonistan, from yesterday’s Wall Street Journal Report. She totally nails it.

My sister came to visit on the weekend. She told me that my 10 year old niece’s class was not allowed to sing during Ramadan last year because one kid in the class in Muslim.
I think I popped a vein in my head when I heard that.
