M.A.C. cosmetics SUCK anyway
Well, well, well. What have we here. Sandra Bernhard, paragon of white trash that she is, pimping M.A.C. cosmetics. Perfect. Because you, dear consumer in real life, must want to look like a skank ho from the MTV Awards too, don’t you? Or at least look like that lovely Bernhart, right?
So, M.A.C. doesn’t want “little freaked out, intimidated, frightened, right-wing Republican thin-lipped bitches” wearing their oh-so-glam makeup? So says Sandra Bernhard–what a brilliant choice of spokes-skanks! She fits right in with the trashy image! I suppose someone thought it would be “edgy” and “cool” having that B-list loudmouthed one-trick pony insulting a large swath of America. Nevermind the fact that even we Republican “bitches”–wait for it–actually BUY cosmetics!

Oh well, at least I know I can buy Borghese products without knowing my money is going to people that hate me and everything I believe in. Or maybe other cosmetics lines where they don’t think it’s smart to attack half of their American consumer base. It’s been nice knowing you, Lauders. I won’t be missing the overpriced, laughable M.A.C. line since I don’t go for the trashy “glam” look, but I did like a couple of the other lines from the Estee Lauder corporation. Pity.

UPDATE: HA! Well, I guess they got the message. Chez Diva tipped off Drudge this morning, and he had the story at the Drudge Report today, as did a bunch of other blogs. And yes, we emailed MAC and the Estee Lauder corporation. Guess what? They cut the whole “little freaked out, intimidated, frightened, right-wing Republican thin-lipped bitches” spittle out. Heh.
I’m still not buying their shi’ite, though. The fact that they think this way–and obviously, they do–is enough for me. (And anyway, lip gloss? Blech. They must think everyone is farking stupid if they’re saying lip gloss makes your lips “plump.”) :roll:
UPDATE, 8/16: You can run, M.A.C., but you can’t hide! Pretty weaselly of them to just edit out that part of the video, but not say a word about it. Fear not; Chez Diva says the video is on YouTube. :razz:

I’ll continue to support Estee Lauder. In 2001, the palestinians called for an international boycott of their products because they support Israel. Ron Lauder, the Chairman of the Board for Estee Lauder, pretty much said “screw you” to the bastards and continued his support. I completely agree with you. I took offense to this ad, as I am a Conservative Christian Republican, and sometimes I am a bitch, and intimidated and frightened and on my off days, even thin lipped.
I ignored that she even did an ad for them until it was shown on the news tonight. So although I am a few days late…I wrote about it on my blog today.

Give me a farking BREAK! I HAVE it, and I use Nars or Lorac. Are you that stupid? As I said, I’ve tried MAC. I’ve tried literally scores of brands, because I am a cosmetics junkie. Believe me, I know MAC and I can easily tell you it’s NO better than anything in the drugstore; it’s just slick marketing and packaging. That’s why MAC’s big “fans” are pretty much teenagers/early 20-somethings–because they’re still naive and gullible enough to be taken in by trashy MTV-type “celebrities” and think something is good because PAMELA farking ANDERSON or whatever MTV whore is pimping that crap at any given moment. (Why on earth MAC chose an ugly, foul, hateful thing like Sandra Bernhard is beyond me–even liberals are laughing about it.)
For your information, Dana, I have a choice in the stuff I buy. Why the FARK should I send my money to a company that obviously doesn’t respect me, doesn’t consider me a desired customer, and most of all, sells overpriced crap?
At least Estee Lauder people had the decency to send out a RESPECTFUL canned email response, unlike MAC. All MAC did was cut out the shi’ite-talking about “Republican bitches,” with no explanation or anything. CLEARLY they have no regrets. They made their point. They have lost customers for good. Don’t like it Dana? Tough shi’ite. Get with a company that does respect their customers, because I can guarantee if that’s how they treat potential customers, they don’t give a fuck about you either. My answer to both Estee Lauder and Kenneth Cole regarding, “Are you putting us on?” is no, never again.
Using marketing as a political platform is, in my opinion, a poor business practice. Silly me, I thought ALL companies were in business to sell products to the largest number of people possible. It appears that for a few companies, politics are more important than profits.
The namecalling I am seeing on blogs today from both sides is sickening. I don’t want to call anyone names. However, if insulted, I will vote with my wallet. My money is the same color as liberals - green. Denigrating my political views or calling me names in an ad is not going to intice me to purchase products. Companies may state whatever they want in an ad, however, there will be financial repercussions.

Ms Bernhard’s comments may be judged provocative, offensive or mean-spririted. I do not mean to suggest that her father’s profession exempts her from criticism. Personally, I find her MAC rant entirely in keeping with the self-referential tone of her larger body of work. Sometimes it’s funny, but in this case, I don’t think it is. You may choose to agree or disagree.
While vanity may prove to be the common link between Ms Hilton and Sandra Bernhard, it is important to remember that Bernhard, unlike Hilton, has worked with some of the great directors of our time, most notably Martin Scorsese, and built up an impressive acting resume, including appearances on “Roseanne”, “The Sopranos” and “Law and Order”. Paris Hilton has yet to establish this kind of artistic credibility. That said, I cast no judgement on Ms Hilton. So, what if someone’s a poor white factory worker but reads books too? Or is just down-to-earth, gracious, and kind? Are he or she still white trash, solely because of socioeconomics?
And what about somebody who’s filthy rich but whose appearance and behavior invariably scream “scratching my crotch while waiting for my frozen burrito at the gas station”? See, e.g., Brittany Spears and K-Fed.
Face it, “white trash” has come to mean more than a socioeconomic status. To our credit, it now refers more to behavior, clothes, language, etc. This isn’t a grammar or spelling issue that you need to “be a stickler about.” This is a vernacular expression, and the connotation has changed.
