Bibi says “there will be another round…concept of unilateral withdrawals has collapsed”

Israeli Likud Party leader and former PM Binyamin Netanyahu:
…”Unfortunately, there will be another round [in this war] because the government’s just demands weren’t met” by the cease-fire agreement that went into effect Monday morning.
“The [kidnapped] soldiers weren’t returned home, the Hizbullah was not disarmed … Right now, we are [merely] in an interim period between wars,” Netanyahu warned. “And there is no one who will prevent our enemies from rearmed and preparing for the next round.”
And unlike Olmert, Netanyahu says:
the Hizbullah terrorist war clearly puts an end to the concept of unilateral withdrawals.
“We left Lebanon to the last centimetre and they are firing. We left Gaza to the last centimetre and they are firing,” he said, hours after rockets launched by Palestinian militants landed in the southern Israeli town of Ashkelon.
“The concept of unilateral withdrawals has collapsed.”
Olmert is fighting for his political life.
Opinion polls show public support eroding for Olmert, a career politician who lacks the combat credentials of many of his predecessors.
He has faced a backlash over his decision to accept the UN resolution and for failing to deliver a fatal blow to Hizbollah. Army officers have said they were held back and right-wing rivals have been calling for new elections. The next national ballot is not due until 2010.
“There were … shortcomings. We will have to examine ourselves at all levels,” Olmert told parliament, hours after Defence Minister Amir Peretz promised a thorough investigation of Israel’s conduct of the war.
“The overall responsibility for this operation lies with me, the prime minister. I am not asking to share this with anyone,” said Olmert, who won election in March.
I’ll give Olmert credit for not trying to pass the buck, but his days are numbered–as they should be. He never has backed away from disengagement, not even with the onslaught of violence committed by those to whom he surrendered territory. He and Ariel Sharon ejected peaceful families from their homes to give the land to the “Palestinians,” and did Israel see any peace in return? NO. Nor did millions of people even expect it would bring peace. It’s only helped the predators, not pacified them. It should have been apparent that there would be no peace long ago when the “Palestinians” destroyed the villages in the former settlements. One would think that an oppressed, poor people would try to make their lives better after the withdrawal, but these aren’t normal people. They’re violent, hateful predators, and nothing more, nothing less. They–Hezbollah and Hamas and their followers–deserve death, not gifts of land and prosperity. To hell with them.
Olmert needs to go, and someone–Netanyahu, or anyone who sees the enemy for who they are–should be leading Israel through these dangerous times, regardless of whether or not the “ceasefire” holds. Ehud Olmert should do the honorable thing and not just acknowledge his mistakes, but learn from them and repudiate his plans for continuing the withdrawal from “palestinian” territories. And most urgently, he must stop trying to appease the critics at the UN, because Israel’s critics will never, ever be appeased.
