What about Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev?
Lost in all the discussion about the ceasefire agreement (sham) is the issue of the two kidnapped Israelis, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev.
“We do not understand why the call for the release of the kidnapped soldiers is not included in the operative part of the resolution,” one family member said, but added that “we trust the government.”
Really. What about them? Their kidnapping was the straw that broke the camel’s back, but they seem to have been forgotten. It’s no wonder the professional liars in Hizballah are declaring victory; they still have Goldwasser and Regev, and they have at least won the media war and gotten a ceasefire (one that they most certainly won’t abide themselves).
So what’s happened? Hezbollah has been firing upon northern Israel all along, then they kidnap two Israeli soldiers. Israel strikes back. Israel agrees to stop, but nothing’s really been solved.
This ceasefire isn’t going to work; Israel is IN Lebanon, and I doubt they can pull out without being attacked. Hezbollah’s goal of ultimate destruction of Israel hasn’t been accomplished, and they aren’t going to just suddenly give up that goal because of some weak UN ceasefire agreement! Nor will Iran or Syria–can anyone possibly believe a ceasefire agreement with Israel’s enemies means more than the paper on which it’s written?
Maybe Goldwasser and Regev are bargaining chips. Maybe they’ll be in the “next” ceasefire agreement, once Hezbollah blows this one. In other words, if they want another one, they’ll have to give up the two soldiers. This whole thing is bullshi’ite. I’m glad the families of the soldiers “trust the government,” because I think Olmert is on crack.

The only thing that makes sense is Israel is trying to regain world opinion when Hezbollah breaks the cease fire. Otherwise I think they are insane to stop now. Actually I think they are insane to stop anyway. If they are trying to show the world what Hezbollah is they are playing a dangerous game.
