British police bust a major terror plot - “bigger than 9/11″

Thank God for Scotland Yard and MI5.
Security service MI5 and police have foiled an alleged plot to blow up aeroplanes in mid-flight, the Home Secretary said.
John Reid said the “very significant” scheme could have caused “a considerable loss of life”.
He said: “Overnight the police, with the full knowledge of ministers, have carried out a major counter-terrorism operation to disrupt what we believe to be a major threat to the UK and international partners.
“The police, acting with the Security Service MI5, are investigating an alleged plot to bring down a number of aircraft through mid-flight explosions, causing a considerable loss of life.”
Mr Reid said the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre raised the UK threat status to its highest level - critical.
He added: “We are doing everything possible to disrupt any further terrorist activity.”
Fox News is saying as many as TWENTY airplanes had been targeted, and that it was supposedly to have been bigger than 9/11. There were apparently plans for this for (they’re saying on TV) 8-10 months. The British government has now raised their terror alert level to “CRITICAL” (the highest level).
If you’re reading this, Fox News is running live Sky News at the moment; tune in to watch it. I don’t know what the other U.S. news channels are showing, but probably the same thing. I’m not going to do a play-by-play–y’all have TVs. Obviously I can’t add anything right now, except to say CAN WE PLEASE dispense with the PC bullshi’ite and start actually doing criminal profiling? Can we PLEASE start getting tough with air passenger restrictions, like they do in Israel? I don’t give a shi’ite if people are “inconvenienced.” Leave for the airport an hour earlier, or whatever it takes. You do not have a “right” to air (or rail, or ship) travel; if you want to travel in a mass conveyance, I want to know you don’t present a danger to others with you. I’m glad British authorities are allowing NO carry-on baggage right now, including handbags. Sure, people will be a little inconvenienced temporarily, not having their purses or briefcases or whatever with them–but TOO BAD. We are at war.

UPDATE: US homeland security level raised to RED / Severe for UK to US flights.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is taking immediate steps to increase security measures in the aviation sector in coordination with heightened security precautions in the United Kingdom, the department said in a statement on Thursday.
“For that reason, the United States Government has raised the nation’s threat level to Severe, or Red, for commercial flights originating in the United Kingdom bound for the United States,” the statement said.
The general threat level has been raised to ORANGE.
UPDATE: US and UK authorities collaborated; MI5 and Scotland Yard worked with the CIA and FBI on this investigation together, according to what they’re saying on Fox News/Sky News on teevee right now (0400 CST). Don’t forget, some people want to repeal the Patriot Act. Imagine if it had been, or if they hadn’t increased security in the UK as they did after 7/11/05. WORSE THAN 9/11.
They’re talking on Sky about “passengers facing chaos,” but nobody on teevee seems to be complaining. Good. Of course under these urgent circumstances, I can’t see that anyone would, except for those involved in the terror plot. Please God, don’t let these animals off easy. Excellent work by the authorities; let’s hope the British justice system doesn’t screw this up like they have with other terrorists.
Kinda gross that parents have to taste baby milk/formula before boarding flights, but it’s not like it’s gonna kill them. Anyway, I don’t know about you but I sure as hell wouldn’t be getting on a flight from the UK today. Fox News is saying all flights from Tel Aviv have now been canceled, and they’re canceling some US to UK flights. Massive delays.
No liquid items permitted on US flights, either. Michael Chertoff:
“Due to the nature of the threat revealed by this investigation, we are prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions from being carried on the airplane.”
“This determination will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant.
“These changes will take effect at 4:00am local time across the country.
“Travellers should also anticipate additional security measures within the airport and at screening checkpoints.”

Citizens do have a right to interstate travel under our Constitution. That’s the effect of the Privileges and Immunities Clause. However, there is no absolute right to perfectly convenient travel. I think most people in our country are reasonable enough understand that, especially since 9/11. Those who don’t are probably just whiney Hollywood leftists who blame Bush for everything.

My Egyptian hubby tends to agree with you. He figures other Egyptians messed up “convenient” air travel for him and he’s glad he’s being profiled (which he figures doesn’t happen enough). It makes him feel safer.
He can’t wait to have eyescans as he figures it will do more to protect the innocent and catch the guilty than invade his privacy. He’s grateful that the US government is using his tax dollars to protect him.
He is happy to be racially profiled and he complies willingly. When they apologize for the inoconvenience, he assures that he understands and urges them to do their job. We are at war, he wants to do his bit.
That’s just one Egyptian (and his wife) but I’m sure we’re not alone.
What scares us both are “PC” American Libtards whining about how “unfair” all this is.
