REUTERGATE - Picture killed, better photoshop(?) provided by Reuters

HERE is the original post - I can’t move it to the current date or the permalink will get all screwed up.

LindaSoG says, “Go go Godzilla!”

Godzilla in Lebanon

Linda got it from Slublog here.

And…also from Linda–it’s done!

Reuters picture kill

PICTURE KILL FOR LBN20 TRANSMITTED AT APPROXIMATELY 1408GMT ON AUGUST 5, 2006. PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE WAS IMPROPERLY USED ON THIS IMAGE. A CORRECTED VERSION WILL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW THIS ADVISORY. PLEASE REMOVE THE IMAGE FROM YOUR SYSTEMS. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. REUTERS LBN20

Photo editing software was improperly used? WTF does that mean? There’s a “proper” way to edit pictures? (I mean other than a really bad job doing it.) And what is the “corrected version” going to be? A better photoshop? Less obvious use of the clone tool? Why bother? Who’s gonna believe them anyway?

Heh. Just answered my own question. Click the photo.

ATTENTION EDITORS: THIS IS A CORRECTED FILE OF LBN20. REUTERS HAS ISSUED A KILL OF THE PREVIOUS VERSION. Smoke billows from burning buildings destroyed during an overnight Israeli air raid on Beirut’s suburbs August 5, 2006. Picture taken August 5, 2006. REUTERS/Adnan Hajj (LEBANON)

Maybe they just cleaned up the pathetic photoshop to make it look less obvious. THAT is chutzpah, if it is still photoshopped. Why believe it’s legit now?

Wake up, Allah! Sleep is for…normal people? (Maybe I’ll try it some time today.)

UPDATE @0830: I was just thinking, hey, I’m totally indie-cool ’cause I didn’t get a link from LGF or Ynet or even ALLAH. But y’know what? I can get to my site, nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah Charles! ;-P
Now everyone has to come to MVRWC because 1) I’m not asleep like all those wimps, and 2) my server’s not burning up with traffic, and 3) I found another probable Photoshop that they didn’t. Not that they’ll ever know about the other photoshop, which sucks because I’m not an expert. But my site’s not down due to traffic! I’m so f’n indie!

I win!

/Pollyanna

Update again–it’s kinda funny, if you read Ace’s moron blog regularly. In Ynet’s article–which has been updated to show the picture kill:

The author of the Ace of Spades blog wrote: “Even I can see the very suspicious “clonings” of picture elements here. And I’m an idiot.”

HAHAAAAA! Priceless!

Update @0930: Michelle Malkin:

Reuters’ “correction,” reported by Ynet.news, leaves some unanswered questions. Who altered the photo: the photographer or an editor?

The photographer has been suspended pending an investigation. They better be combing his copious archive. How many more skillfully executed fakes might he be responsible for–or other more “talented” Reuters photo-manipulators, for that matter?

Update @1020: Rusty Shackelford has some more that look iffy, as do the Freepers. I haven’t been to sleep yet, but I’m fading fast. I’m not a photoshop wiz, so I dunno about the ones they’ve got anyway. This one was the one I referred to in my other post (”looks faker than Nancy Pelosi’s face”) but I couldn’t see anything so I removed the link. I’m not gonna go there when I’m not the expert.

UPDATE @1120: Note to all other bloggers covering this–there’s some mouth-breather skipping around the blogosphere, probably picking up links from Technorati or something to leave troll droppings cut-and-paste style. If you get a long, laughably ignorant comment from some drooling farktard named “Chimpy” actually trying to insist that the photoshopped picture was real (LOL!), don’t bother even responding. It’s troll-spam. He’s not going to read any responses anyway since he’s apparently busy spamming everyone else. He’s now banned here like other spammers. I can not believe there are actually people who are THAT stupid, saying the PS photo was legit. Mind-boggling.

Beth, I can’t tell if you use Wordpress or Expression Engine. Maybe neither. But try to find a plug-in or option allowing you to make your post “sticky.” That way it will ALWAYS be your top post and no need to change the title or the permalink. At least that’s the way I understand it works.

Photoshopping The News - Reuters Blows Smoke Up Our…

Partially cross-posted at Expose the Left *****UPDATE***** Reuters has put out a “corrected” version of the image, but still crediting Hajj. SCROLL to the bottom of this post for the image and the caption, on how Reuters issued a “kill”…

oh the horror of it al, now the poor creature (Godzella) will be labeled a zionist pig as well. Any nimrod could tell that picture was faked/doctored from what the original was. The only editing that any pictures presented as news should have done to them is for color, contrast, lightening effects used for the clarity of the image. To me anything more is considereded fraud to the consumers of such news. As if Rueters is considered to be worthy news, rarely do they find some worthy.

    Take care.

[...] Note: NEW POST HERE LGF, Ace, and Allah (along with more people by the minute) are calling bullshi’ite on this obviously-photoshopped picture from al-Reuters. So am I. Nice smoke pattern, huh? Duh. Left & Right also notes the buildings were cloned. See the closeups here. UPDATE: Also see THIS. Note that the credited photographer is someone named Adnan Hajj. I just did a very quick Google search on his name and haven’t even begun to dig into it, but one thing I’ve found is this, in a post about the “creative photography”/Pallywood style of the reporting in Lebanon–in this case, in Qana: But the photographers, it seems, are not too fussy about how they go about “adding to the shock value”. These two sequences illustrate the extent to which photographers on the scene are prepared to ensure that the “shock value” is maximised. In this first of the two sequences, we see a shot by Reuters and taken by Adnan Hajj, timed at 2:21 pm. It has the caption: Rescuers pull the body of a toddler victim of an Israeli air raid on Qana that killed more than 60 people, the majority of them women and children, in south Lebanon, July 30, 2006. Beth. Brilliant. Superb.

Just rank amateurs, making shi’ite up.

I think Qana was a totally staged event (I know Allah probably disagrees but I do not care). The already-dead bodies were brought to the home. The building was dropped. The photographers were called to attend, and the whole thing was manufactured.

We’re fighting a war again, with a Soviet-style media operation. Except this time, the manipulation is from within.

Sorry, Chimpy, you lose. I’ve already seen the same hilarious trollbabble from you on three other blogs. Cut-and-paste troll spamming doesn’t get approved here.

And really, GET A CLUE. Anyone who is in denial about the obvious photoshopping done–especially when Reuters has corrected it!–does not meet the minimum intelligence requirement for commenting here anyway. You are banned.

    Go fuck off now, please.

The original picture also contained text about many buildings being destroyed as part of the caption. This text has been removed from the caption of the correction.

The unretouched photo does not support this text as it looks like smoke from a single building.

After searching their archives I find that Reuters has been fairly nonchalant with its use of the word kill over the past couple of days. For example, “Israeli bombardment kills 40 civilians in Lebanon; Israeli air raid kills 27 civilians in Lebanon; Israeli air raid kills 33 civilians in Lebanon: Israeli commando raid near Tyre kills 5″, and so on, and then they happily jump right over to “Picture kill for LBN20″. Do they know the meaning of the word? Maybe they really aren’t hard-core rabble rousing leftist ideologues. Maybe they are just idiots.
