Beat them until they beg for mercy and admit defeat

I’m late to the party on this one, but this story is the perfect analogy for what’s going on between Israel and Hezbollah/Lebanon. (Stein hoist - Six Meat Buffet)
When I was in the Navy, I once witnessed a bar fight in downtown Olongapo (Philippines) that still haunts my dreams. The fight was between a big oafish Marine and a rather soft-spoken, medium sized Latino sailor from my ship.
All evening the Marine had been trying to pick a fight with one of us and had finally set his sights on this diminutive shipmate of mine… figuring him for a safe target. When my friend refused to be goaded into a fight the Marine sucker punched him from behind on the side of the head so hard that blood instantly started to pour from this poor man’s mutilated ear.
Go read it all, and I dare you to say he’s wrong about it. And I wish WE would do the same thing to the “insurgency” (terrorists) and the Taliban (terrorists) ourselves, but for some reason (pro-terrorist media and Left) we’re supposed to be “above” beating them to a bloody pulp. We’re supposed to be like the sailor in the story–fully capable of annihilating the other guy, but forced to fight with one arm tied behind his back. I hope at least Israel isn’t put in that handicapped position, but I agree with Victor Davis Hanson, that “patience is wearing thin.”
Yet for all their threats, the Islamists — from Hezbollah in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley to the Iranian government to the jihadists in Iraq’s Sunni Triangle — don’t understand they are slowly pushing tired Westerners into a corner. If diplomacy, or aid or support for democracy, or multiculturalism, or withdrawal from contested lands, does not satisfy radical Islamists, what would? Perhaps nothing.
What would be the new Western approach to terrorism? Hard and quick retaliation — but without our past concern for nation-building, or offering a democratic alternative to theocracy and autocracy, or even worrying about whether other Muslims are unfairly lumped in with Islamists who operate freely in their midst.
Much like the sailor in the bar brawl story. As it should be.
By the way, while you’re at Treppenwitz’ site, definitely see this “To-Do List” as well.

Beth- If the U.S. is truely the ‘broker’ that all of the ceasefire whiners say it is, then we should use our power to be the hands that stay those who would stop the fight. Israel must continue until Hezballah is entirely destroyed.
As for the analogy to Iraq, I have always contended that at least half of the negative polling about our involvement in Iraq comes from people like myself. I’m tired of ‘half-assed’ war. Tired of ROE that put our people at risk in order to satisfy the leftists and their compatriots in the media. Go in and crush your enemies until they cry like little girls. Destroy their infrastructure, burn their food and bring them to submission.
War is never pretty but, if you wish to win it, you must be merciless in its execution.

Ya know, normally I’m not one to advocate curbstomping on a personal scale, let alone a nationwide scale, but I sure would like to see the Israelis curbstomp Hezbollah.

I really appreciate the mention, and of course the links. Keep up the good work. There are a lot of people out there who would like nothing more than to see Israel’s hands tied in this conflict. It’s comforting to see posts like yours.
