The Indian ban is lifted

According to Dakhni, I’m back up in India!
So Rusty, Macker, Teach, Editors in Pajamas, and OpiniPundit (and all the incorrectly listed blogs–hahaha) should be back up, along with the Indian blogs that I had never heard of but will be reading now, thanks to the ban!
Guess the Indian DOT kinda defeated the purpose of the ban all by themselves, huh? You guys in the Indian government know how silly this makes you look, don’t you?
You know, you do have a choice: tolerance and diversity or dhimmitude and cowardice. Freedom and democracy that punishes terrorists (not those who exercise free speech), or bureaucracy held hostage to the demands of extremists. Like Jay Allen says,
India has a hard time controlling any of its religious extremists. Fundamentalist Hindu groups such as Shiv Sena have successfully used violent protests to rewrite history and stop production of material they find offensive.
Well, what the hell? They call that “democracy?” I didn’t even know about those extremists. I guess when the government gives in so easily to extremist and criminal demands, it’s only natural that extremism, crime, and violence will flourish.
Snap out of it, India–you can’t afford to cower to thugs. Mumbai (7/11) and all the other attacks you’ve suffered should tell you that much.
Thanks again to Dakhni and all the pro-freedom Indians who have been working on the ban/censorship issue (WAY too many people to link, but you can find them all in those two links). I had no idea this kind of thing was even going on over there, but we sure know now. The government just gave their stupid censorship policies a LOT of worldwide publicity! (LOL!)
Sending a trackback to Michelle Malkin’s post about the ban to get the word out…

Boo hiss! The ban was great for traffic and recognition :)

Well you can always still say “Banned in India”, that’s STILL accurate, you’re just not banned anymore.
Oh well, I’m sure another country will ban you soon! :)
Hehe, I really do think it’s so cool that a COUNTRY noticed all of your websites personally and banned you! You totally need to get a T-shirt made.

Ban Lifted?
Beth is reporting that the Indian ban has been lifted. I couldn’t tell you if it applies just to her, or to everyone on the list, and I’m not traveling to India to find out. Unless you want to pay…

WOW!!! I just learned that my old “defunct” blog was banned. JW has me listed under the BANNED OF THE BANNED. Love it! I guess that means I managed to piss off more than a few islamotards before my blog was hacked.
Keep up the good work!

Technically you are still on banned list.
“The Department of Telecom (DoT) has instructed all the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to block only the specified website/webpages on the parent website”
William Teach says:
Afternoon, Beth. Have you seen that the ban on us is still in place? Nice to be singled out be a whole country :)

[...] OK, I’ve been reading stuff about the ban and there is a lot of confusion about some of the sites under the ban order. So for those who don’t know this already (which is probably most people, but not regular readers of this site or the other blocked US sites). First, Merri Musings: merrimusings.typepad.com USED TO BE [...]

Not really, the ban has not been lifted, it is firmly in place. It is a news item that is being touted by the largely ignorant and defunt news media in India. After the terrorist attack in India on 7/11 which claimed 200 commuters in local trains, the Indian government decided to ban a list of blogs which criticized the silence of Indian Muslim intellectuals and highlighted Pakistan’s role in the blasts. The fact remains that the Indian polity has been hijacked.
The ISPs in India goofed up when they accidentally blocked entire domains and not just individual blogs. This served as a wakeup call to the Indian blogosphere and people were up in arms and made some noise.
The ISPs responded swiftly at the directive from the Indian government to unblock as there was outcry comparing India’s democracy to China’s communist and oppressive agenda. The ISPs have only corrected this mistake but a group of blogs are still blocked. So in essence, nothing has changed except for the fact that entire domains have not been blocked.
When it comes to free speech, even the blockade of a single blog is against the concept. (Of course unless the blog is about pedophilia and child abuse.)
