“Ahmadinejad promises Muslims will ‘rejoice’ soon”

All those who are surprised, please raise your hands

The Jerusalem Post reports:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday promised a “rejoicing” for Muslims in the Middle East “soon,” the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Speaking to university officials in the town of Mashhad, Ahmadinejad said the “volcano of rage” at the “arrogant powers” was “on the verge of eruption.”

Referring to escalating violence in Lebanon and northern Israel, he was quoted as saying, “The Zionists themselves have realized that they have launched a risky move and are aware that the flame of the fury of the regional states will set them ablaze.”

This is, of course, exactly what they’ve wanted all along. But of course, they’re not actually helping Hezbollah, right?

Iran’s parliament speaker warned Tuesday that no part of Israel is safe during Hizbullah’s battle with Lebanon - a statement made despite Iran’s claim that it is not aiding the guerrillas in their fight.

Not aiding them, my ass.

Reuters:

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran’s Hizbollah, which claims links to the Lebanese group of the same name, said on Tuesday it stood ready to attack Israeli and U.S. interests worldwide.

“We have 2,000 volunteers who have registered since last year,” said Iranian Hizbollah’s spokesman Mojtaba Bigdeli, speaking by telephone from the central seminary city of Qom.

“They have been trained and they can become fully armed. We are ready to dispatch them to every corner of the world to jeopardise Israel and America’s interests. We are only waiting for the Supreme Leader’s green light to take action. If America wants to ignite World War Three … we welcome it,” he said.

Of course! What would be more welcome to them than war with Israel AND America?

Iran is trying to persuade pro-Iranian militias in Iraq (the Badr and Sadr groups) to come out against the Israeli attack on Lebanon, and follow up with an attack on American troops in Iraq.

It fits in quite neatly with Ahmadinejad’s agenda, wouldn’t you say? Brigitte Gabriel, a Lebanese Christian, certainly sees it that way (as do I):

Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Hizbullah, is an Iranian agent. He is not a free actor in this play. He has been involved in terrorism for over 25 years. Iran, with its Islamic vision for a Shi’ite Middle East, now has its agents, troops and money in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. Behind this is the vision that drives the Iranian President Ahmadinejad, who believes he is Allah’s “tool and facilitator,” bringing the end of the world as we know it and the ushering in of the era of the Mahdi. He has a blind messianic belief in the Shi’ite tradition of the 12th or “hidden” Islamic savior, who will emerge from a well in the holy city of Qom in Iran after global chaos, catastrophes and mass death, and establish an era of Islamic justice and everlasting peace. Ahmadinejad’s extremist ideology, seeking a trigger for Armageddon, greatly concerns the intelligence community.

I don’t doubt for a minute that Iran had everything to do with the two soldiers being kidnapped, just to get things rolling. They knew Israel couldn’t, wouldn’t possibly ignore such a thing, and they know this can very easily spread into Iran and Syria because of their backing of Hezbollah.

I don’t even want to think about what could happen, and I think most people don’t want to, either. But we have to. The usual suspects will blame Israel for existing and blame the US for our long-standing support of Israel, like we all somehow “deserve” what happens. Like we should have been supporting people filled with hate and intolerance all along, I guess. But “screw ‘em,” it’s not time for stupid politicizing and finger-pointing. It’s time to DEFEAT this enemy. This is a part of the “war on terror”–that is, a war on Islamic extremism. It’s just another front on the war, being fought by Israel. Israel alone, against the Iranian- and Syrian-backed Hezbollah. Their joint “military” (terrorist) operation against Israel, and when feasible, America.

I want to know this:
I wonder if any of my readers remember Israel’s previous wars in 1967 and 1973. If you do remember them, how was the feeling then, compared to now? Is there any reason to think this could be over with as quickly as the others? Does it seem more or less worrisome this time? I can read historical accounts but I can’t gauge the sense of fear, pessimism, optimism, strength, whatever, compared to then. Anyone?

    Aiding? No… Leading Hell ya…

I’ll be suprised when the muslims start dancing in the streets. If for no other reason than it will make them easier targets to hit. Nothing like a clear shot at a bunch of fish in a barrel.

Israel has what it takes to lay any and all of her enemies to waste. It’s just a question of escalation and political will.

Israel could end this current conflict by tonight if they wanted to, but they’d face international condemnation for reducing Lebanon- and Hezbollah- to glowing green shards of glass.

Israel will never be defeated by an Arab or Muslim force. They don’t know how to fight. Oh, the arabs and muslims know how to do the suicide bomb and the ambush and the IED, but as for large unit fire and manuever in the field? Forget it. The IDF will chop them to bits. (See 1973, 1967.)

Sorry, Beth, but I’m just a little too young. I was 6 and 12 respectively , so I don’t remember much, but I *do* remember that America (at least the part I was aware of) was solidly pulling for Israel. I don’t recall much pro-Arab sentiment and I grew up in a university town where my father worked.

5,581 killed by Islamic Terrorists since 9/11. Sad to say the least and completely unjustified. But, since 911 approximately 200,000 North Americans have died in road accidents, 1/3 of these killed by drunk drivers. Let’s see, that more than 10 times as many innocent people killed by drunk drivers as by Terrorists. Where do your candidates stand on this issue? How about some tougher laws that would get these bozzos off the road and behind bars where they belong? Dead is dead, rather at the hands of a Terrorist or a drunk driver.

    Beth says:

Rick, WTF? That’s a ridiculously false analogy, and one that’s obviously quite simple. I don’t know of any public figure (”your candidates”) that supports people being killed by drunk drivers.

So I guess you’re saying you don’t really care about terrorism because you believe it’s unlikely to kill you? To hell with the effects of terrorism beyond those killed?

Oh, fuckit, I’m sure you won’t bother coming back to answer. Those who comment upon old posts never do.
