Memorial Day 2006
- Posted by Beth on May 29th, 2006 filed in Afghanistan, General, Iraq, Support the Troops, The War
I just have a simple message for those who serve on this Memorial Day.
To those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan today (and yesterday), “thank you” never seems like enough. I wish more than anything that I could be there right alongside you, fighting for you. I want you to know that although I can’t, I haven’t lived through what you have, and I haven’t shared your losses, I know that you fight not just for some greater concept of freedom, but for those who fight alongside you. I know you want the war to end, but when the mission is complete–and the sooner the better. I hope you know how deeply we do appreciate what you do, even though you sometimes wonder about that, and may say to yourselves “do these people deserve it?” even though you know they do, despite their not knowing the difference. It’s because of your sacrifices that so many are able to be blissfully unaware–overly concerned with American Idol, or obsessing over trivialities, or sitting at our computers yammering about proper military strategy, or protesting a war about which they know or care very little. I know that after what you’ve seen, what you’ve done, you think “how can they just wander around cluelessly doing the same old thing like that?” It’s because you have given us all the luxury of living our normal American lives without disruption. We don’t have a draft, we don’t have rationing or any of the other things Joe Civilian had to do in earlier wars. For that, we are incredibly blessed, even as it has meant you’ve had to sacrifice even more.
So while “thank you” never seems like enough to say to you and to those who have lost loved ones and friends, I don’t know what else to say–except may G-d bless you and your friends and families and keep you safe.

Google’s choice on Memorial Day
Interesting, since it’s start in 1999 Google has tweaked their logo to celebrate all manner of holidays and anniversaries, but not once has there been even an acknowledgment of Memorial Day. Or Veteran’s day, for that matter. Conspicuous by its…

Memory - 2006
It seems that nearly everyone in my blogrolls has something to say for Memorial Day. Me, I’ll just repeat part of what I said last year: There is something fundamentally sacred that attaches to those who have given their lives for this great nation, a…

Memorial Day 2006
It’s a day of honor and sadness as I think of all the young men who died on battle fields around the world and didn’t have the opportunity to grow old. We owe them everything.

I wrote you from SPAIN, and I wish to express my thanks from EUROPE, to all american soldiers, for their efforts and sacrifices for freedom in this generation, and in the past. Because without the people of their kind, for sure that I wouldn’t be free to do and think what i want, instead of have to do and think what other people said my to do and think… in german or russian. And thats the perfect proof for all those leftish, protesters and STALIN lovers, that if your country is an empire, IT´S AN EMPIRE OF FREEDOM.
I wish you enjoy the memorial day, and thanks to all of you from the bottom of my heart.

And another big Amen! May God protect and comfort those who serve and their families.
